Ubisoft has announced the follow up to last year's South Park: The Stick of Truth at E3 today. South Park: The Fractured but Whole has The New Kid joining Cartman's Coon and Friends group of crime fighters, with Cartman's alter ego being The Coon; a half-man, half-raccoon superhero. Anno 2205 Goes to Space on November 3, 2015
Anno 2205 Goes to Space on November 3, 2015
Along with a number of action games, Ubisoft also announced the strategy, city-building game Anno 2205 will be releasing on November 3, at E3. This is the largest game of the Anno series and will be the first to reach into outer space. Players will be tasked with building cities large enough to send missions to the Moon, establishing colonies there to harvest resources and bring them back to Earth. Thanks to a new engine, the islands cities can be built on can be five times larger than those in previous games, while still enabling high graphical detail. This includes filling the cities with flying cars, over a million citizens, factories, and mines. The game will also use a 'revolutionary' session mode to allow players to control several sessions on the Earth and Moon at the same time.
Pre-orders can be placed now for the Standard Edition and Gold Edition, with the latter including additional content. Pre-ordering either edition will get players guaranteed access to the closed beta, for which more information will come in the future.

Tom Clancy's The Division Gets a Release Date
Tom Clancy's The Division Gets a Release Date
Tom Clancy's The Division was first announced a while ago, and then almost seemed to disappear. E3 is a good time for games to return to the forefront, and it has more information about the gameplay, as well as a release date of March 8, 2016. This open world RPG will be coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PCs.
The Division is set in New York City after it has been devastated by a virus. With society quickly breaking down as food and water run out, The Division is activated to restore order. The members of the unit had previously appeared to lead ordinary lives, but are actually highly trained agents meant to operate independently or in small groups. You will be able to play the game solo or with up to three other players. There are no special classes or fixed load-outs, so you can respond to the dynamic world as the situation dictates. You will also be able to upgrade weapons, gear, and skills. The most dangerous part of the city is the Dark Zone, where you can go either to work with other agents, or hunt others down to get their loot.
In North America you can already pre-order to two special editions of the game; the Gold Edition and the premium Collector's Edition. The Gold Edition includes an exclusive National Guard Gear Set and the Season Pass, while the Collector's Edition includes all of that, plus exclusive memorabilia. Pre-orders will also get you a place in the beta coming out in December for the Xbox One, and later beta access coming to all three platforms.

Tackle the Imperial Walkers on Hoth in the Gameplay Trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront
Tackle the Imperial Walkers on Hoth in the Gameplay Trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront
EA started off its E3 Press Conference on a big note, by showing off Mass Effect: Andromeda, and also ended it on just as big of one, with gameplay footage of Star Wars: Battlefront. We started things off by seeing the footage from April, but then shifted to all-new and all running on a PlayStation 4. Some of the footage hops between the Rebellion and Empire, but all of it is from the PS4. We get taken to the ice planet of Hoth, where the Rebellion has to fend off an Imperial attack, complete with AT-ATs and AT-STs. Oh, and some TIE Fighters, too. The Rebellion is not without its own ships, as the T-47 Snowspeeder and T-65 X-Wing try to stave off the attack. We also get orbital bombardments from the Star Destroyers above Hoth, so there's more than just the action on the planets you'll have to worry about. And then there are one or two surprises near the end.
The foot soldiers are viewed from both first and third-person views, along with the fighters, while the massive AT-AT has multiple views to let you rain down some destruction. All of it makes for some intense Star Wars action, with epic battles and intense fights awaiting you. Star Wars: Battlefront arrives November 17, 2015, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

PC Gaming Sales Gain on Consoles
Despite frequent rumors about the death of PC gaming, the platform continues to enjoy strong sales numbers and great games, as evidenced by the ongoing Steam sale. A new report claims that not only is PC gaming not dead, it is set to outpace console gaming by the value of games sold by the end of next year. The value of PC games sold will be about $29 billion while console games will be at $28 billion. The chief reason cited in the study was the "growing number of users in India and China as well as the growing population of eSports where the PC is the platform of choice." Other reasons given include the rise of virtual reality technology and cloud gaming services such as Steam, Uplay, and NVIDIA Grid.

BioWare Takes Us to a New Galaxy in Mass Effect: Andromeda; Arriving Holiday 2016 for PC, PS4, XBO
BioWare Takes Us to a New Galaxy in Mass Effect: Andromeda; Arriving Holiday 2016 for PC, PS4, XBO
EA has a little bit of everything to show off during its E3 Press Conference, but perhaps one of the biggest titles is an RPG from BioWare. We finally have our first look at the next Mass Effect game, and we also have its name: Mass Effect: Andromeda. This new ME experience takes us to a brand new galaxy to explore years after the original trilogy ended, so yes, Shepard's story is well and truly done. While BioWare didn't go into any major story details, it did say we play as either a human male or female, although not the one we see in the trailer. Who, then? Maybe an explorer in this new galaxy? Whoever our character is exactly, we'll get to drive the redesigned Mako, work with a team of adventurers, fight alongside, experience the galaxy, and even fall in love with them.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is due to arrive Holiday 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It runs on the Frostbite engine, so it should provide for one amazing experience. Hopefully more information comes out soon, but right now, Mass Effect: Andromeda is another RPG to watch for.

Backwards Compatibility of Xbox 360 Games Finally Comes to the Xbox One
Microsoft's E3 press conference has wrapped up, and perhaps one of the biggest items out of that was not a game was the fact that the Xbox One now has backwards compatibility. More than 100 Xbox 360 games can be played on the Xbox One, with more capable of being supported. All a developer has to do in order to get their X360 game to play on the XBO is to approve it; Microsoft handles the rest. Gamers can even submit titles they want to see with backwards compatibility via Xbox Feedback, so if your favorite game isn't available, maybe your voice can help it get there. In order to play these X360 games, all you need to do is simply drop in the disc or download the game, and then start playing. The exact technical details aren't yet known, so whether the XBO actually pulls off the disc or just installs it and emulates, we're still a bit in the dark. Microsoft has released some information on how it works, although technical details are still missing. Any digital X360 or XBLA games you own automatically show in the "Ready to Install" section. Disc games are inserted into the console and then install to the hard drive, but the disc must still be kept in the console while playing.
All the Xbox One features are available on these older games, so you can use voice commands to take screenshots, broadcast your gameplay, and utilize the Game DVR. Game streaming to Windows 10 is also a possibility with the X360 games. Oh, and multiplayer is possible, too, so if your X360 games have multiplayer, you aren't left out on the XBO.
Perhaps the best element of the backwards compatibility on the Xbox One is how it is entirely free. If you own the game, you can play it. Sony has PlayStation Now on its consoles, and while you can play games you own, you still have to pay for them. It'll be interesting to see what Sony changes about PS Now, because as it stands, Xbox One has the definite leg up in that regard. Backwards compatibility will be available later today for Xbox Preview members, while everyone else will get it towards the end of this year.

Halo 5, Backwards Compatibility, and More Highlight Xbox E3 2015 Briefing
With E3 going on, you can expect a lot of news to come out of the many briefings companies will give. This morning Microsoft held its Xbox briefing and it did not fail to show off a lot of new games and features, as well as providing more information about already known titles. Check out our Official E3 2015 forum thread for discussion and videos. (It would take far too long to embed them all here.)
As Microsoft has been saying for quite some time now, this E3 was going to be about the games, and at the briefing they showed off 21, including Halo 5: Guardians, Fallout 4, Gears of War 4, Fable Legends, Dark Souls III, Tom Clancy's The Division and Rainbow Six Siege. (Check out the Rainbow Six Siege multiplayer trailer from the briefing on our YouTube channel. Naturally there was more than just games to discuss as new Xbox One features were announced, including the Game Preview program, which is early-access for the console, and backwards compatibility with select Xbox 360 games.
Microsoft also announced a new Xbox Elite Controller with a wealth of customization options, including replaceable buttons, game-specific settings, and a premium design. HoloLens, Microsoft's augmented reality device was also shown off with a fully-featured version of Mincraft. Virtual reality was not left out though, as Microsoft announced its partnership with Valve VR, to help make Windows 10 the best platform for VR gaming.
Even more than this was shown off at the briefing, so I encourage everyone to check out the source link below, as well as the videos shared in our forum thread.

Material with Dynamic Surface Developed
We know most materials by their surfaces, if they are bumpy or smooth, slick or rough, and these characteristics can be very important for a variety of applications. For that reason, the ability to alter a material's surface features could be a game-changer in a number of ways, and now researchers at MIT have found a way to do just that. Making the discovery even better is that it should be possible to scale it up as needed.
The researchers started with computer simulations of a material comprised of two polymers, with one being flexible and the other being rigid. By strategically placing particles of the rigid polymer with the matrix of the flexible one, it is possible to control the material's behavior when compressed. The buckling the material would undergo when being squeezed, follows a pattern set by the placement of the rigid polymer particles, so if normally the material is smooth, compressing it would cause ridges to form. The researchers have made the material already with a 3D printer, and because the method is completely based on geometry, it should be possible to scale it to any and all sizes.
There are several applications for materials with dynamic surfaces, such as camouflage and altering fluid turbulence. With further study it may be possible to make these materials even more powerful, by using elongated particles in them, to produce asymmetrical surface patterns, and finding ways to achieve the results with electricity, instead of mechanical compression.
