Leaked benchmarks on AMD Radeon R9 390X see it beating the Titan X
As we get closer to the official announcement and launch of the Radeon R9 390X from AMD, all we have to enjoy for now are leaked benchmarks that show the "Fiji XT" card beating out the GeForce GTX Titan X, barely.

When it comes to power consumption, it looks like AMD's next-gen Fiji architecture and High Bandwidth Memory aren't enough to save it from the perils of high power consumption. The leaked benchmarks show that the R9 390X uses 289W of power, which is just 3W away from the R9 290X which is quite the consumer of power. Comparing this to the Titan X which uses 256W, and the GTX 980 Ti which uses 235W, AMD is once again consuming a large amount of power in order to beat NVIDIA.

Sony hiring for its 'next generation gaming system', is this the PS5?
We've heard previous rumors of the PlayStation 5 in that it would be a cloud-based console, with the producer of Tekken teasing that it wouldn't be a physical console at all. Now we're seeing job postings from Sony, teasing the PS5 once again.

The PS4 has enjoyed 19 months on the market so far, but most games are not being rendered at 1080p let alone 1080p 60FPS. I think Sony would cannabalize PS4 sales with a new console, but if it introduced the PS5 with a discrete GPU and told consumers and gamers that it was capable of 4K 60FPS and 1080p 120FPS, for $499, it would sell very well. Project Morpheus, Sony's virtual reality headset, is going to need much more grunt than the PS4 is capable of to deliver a great VR experience, so bring on the PS5.

BlackBerry slashing jobs, continues shift away from smartphones
It was just a few days ago when BlackBerry CEO John Chen said his company could make the handset business profitable again, that didn't mean BlackBerry won't get rid of some employees. It's unknown how many employees are being let go, but most work in the device business - while BlackBerry adds engineers and select workers.

The company remains dedicated to the enterprise, providing enterprise software and hardware, IoT, and cybersecurity.
BlackBerry once dominated the smartphone market, but was unable to keep up when Apple iOS and Google Android took over the market. Even though Chen continues to do a good job in turning around the company, there is plenty of work left to be done.

Intel will talk about its 10nm production later this year
Intel has said that the development of its 10nm technology is coming along well, with the chipmaker to begin talking about its plans for the future using 10nm later in the year.

We don't know much about Intel and its 10nm manufacturing process, but the company is wanting to increase transistor density, while reducing per transistor cost. This is something that other companies have failed to do with their shift into 14nm and 16nm FinFET processes, but Intel will hopefully see much more success with its 10nm technology.

Palmer Luckey being sued by his previous employee over the Oculus Rift
Palmer Luckey is in some very hot water, and unfortunately, this event is happening in the real-world and not a virtual one. The founder of Oculus VR has been accused of stealing confidential information with his previous employer, and "passing it off as his own" reports Reuters.

Total Recall Technologies is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, but it hasn't mentioned a specific amount. This could be quite damaging to not only Oculus VR, but Facebook, with Luckey in the firing line. Oculus, Facebook and Luckey have all reportedly denied comment thus far. With the Oculus Rift set to nearly start the VR headset market by itself, I'm sure that amount of considerable.

Virtual reality being used to help train football players
It looks like virtual reality is still destined to rule video games and movies, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other uses. Silicon Valley company STRIVR Labs is developing a virtual reality sports tool that allows football players to make play reads, learn plays interactively, and execute game-type reps using an Oculus VR Rift headset.

Technology is fully embraced by collegiate and professional sports, with game film and plays distributed via HDTVs, smartphones and tablets - with VR expected to add a new element. It's especially helpful in sports because coaches can have players make natural movements like they were in an actual game or scrimmage, while all the data is immediately captured.

Lovense teams up with Virtual Real Porn for adult-themed VR content
A growing number of adult entertainment companies want to embrace virtual reality, with Lovense, a company focused on sex toys, teaming up with Virtual Real Porn.

"This was an unexpected partnership, but we believe it is a positive development for Lovense," said Dan Liu, founder of Lovense, in a statement published by VentureBeat. "Our focus is to use sex tech products to solve problems for consumers, but when they approached us, we immediately saw the potential."
Pornography is never too far behind new technology developments, with the idea of VR porn surely appealing to users. Virtual Real Porn is currently developing Google Android and Apple iOS versions of its app - and it looks like developers have plenty of opportunity for VR porn, especially with Oculus saying they won't necessarily ban it.

Unfriended (2015) Cinema Movie Review

Unfriended (2015)
Since the launch of the 1999 found-film horror flick The Blair Witch Project which recouped $25 million during its theatrical run on a $50,000 budget (and went on to earn much, much from home video), studios have tried their best to offset huge budgeted 'event' pictures, with sprinklings of more economical, less star-powered horror pictures such as Saw, The Purge, and The Conjuring. But as happens with all things, a concept grows used and tired, and becomes in need of rejuvenation. Enter Unfriended - an innovative and topical horror film for the social media generation.

The authenticity of this setup, reinforced by the licensed platforms on show - from Skype to iMessage, to Facebook and Instagram is the sole innovation of Unfriended, which lends an air of reality to the film which I perhaps wasn't necessarily expecting, but helps to ground the more outlandish elements into a sense of reality - a heady drama equal parts jealousy, teenage angst, sexual tension, and bitchiness.

The cast of relative unknowns do a fine enough job of doing what the script calls on them to do, i.e. acting like kids unburdened by a sense of morality or common sense (as afflicts many teens), but no one's going to be winning an Oscar for their contributions.
Ultimately, for all the deaths seen and not seen, the worst, most horrible execution is reserved for Unfriended's clever and innovative concept which hasn't really been explored in a feature film before. But with a $40m box office take on a $1 million budget, (which reminds me - how on Earth did it cost that much to make this film? Surely it was sponsored to surplus by product placement alone?) something tells me that this isn't the last we'll see of Unfriended.
