Another CS:GO pro is hit with a Valve Anti Cheat ban
Indian CS:GO pro player Krishna "kriSSh" Salecha from Team NeckBREAK has been handed an automatic ban through Valve's Anti-Cheating service (VAC) recently on his main gaming account.

another-cs-go-pro-hit-valve-anti-cheat-ban
This Steam ban has seen an official Facebook reply, including a statement that read "my account was logged in from an unknown computer at 12.10 PM for five minutes. I have contacted Steam to get info on the IP address from where my accounted was logged in," coming after playing a tournament match on local internet cafe computers.

It's obviously quite common for CS:GO players to deny their bans once they have taken place, however Salecha believes the internet cafe may have compromised his account, commenting that the ban has been appealed and is awaiting a response from the official valve team.

SilverStone shows more brand presence with this old school mATX case
In the lead up to COMPUTEX, SilverStone has been pushing out a few more cases to increase their range of SKU into the market.
silverstone-shows-more-brand-presence-old-school-matx-case
TweakTown covered the FRZ01 slim form factor chassis recently and now there's the SG12 on offer adding to the, SilverStone SUGO series. Looking old school in design, this case has a little flavor of Thermaltake from the 2000's in the overall aesthetic, seeing a blue strip line the front and center of the front-facing panel.
Featuring support for coolers up to 82mm in height, a built in handle for transportation and capabilities for Micro-ATX motherboards and full ATX power supplies, this case is seemingly targeted at LAN participants.

AMD hasn't released a WHQL certified Catalyst driver in over 160 days
Did you know that it has been nearly 6 months since AMD released a WHQL-certified Catalyst driver? With NVIDIA constantly refining and fine tuning its GeForce driver with a constant stream of Game Ready WHQL releases, even for Windows 10 with DirectX 12 support, AMD has fallen behind the ball, big time.

amd-released-whql-certified-catalyst-driver-over-6-months
We used to see monthly releases of Catalyst drivers back in the day, which added performance improvements for new games, increased support for features like CrossFire and Eyefinity, and even support for new GPUs as they were released. But it has been over 18 months since AMD released the Radeon R9 290X, and 12 months since the Radeon R9 295X2.

The last WHQL-certified Catalyst drivers were released on 9/12/14 in the form of the Catalyst 14.12 Omega WHQL, and since then, AMD has released just two Beta drivers, with the Catalyst 15.4 drivers helping out with Grand Theft Auto V, and adding support for FreeSync. With the impending release of an entire new architecture with HBM memory in the form of the Radeon R9 390X, we should hopefully expect AMD to not just release a kick ass new driver, but to keep up with monthly releases to better compete against NVIDIA in the software side of its products.

Tech companies don't want police to receive encrypted phone data
In an open letter to President Obama, more than 140 civil society groups, tech companies and tech leaders signed a statement showing concern regarding the US government's desire to view decrypted smartphone data. Both the FBI and Justice Department claim they support encryption, but want to create backdoors so law enforcement can gain access - but that seems unlikely without creating avenues that cybercriminals and foreign governments can also exploit.

tech-companies-want-police-receive-encrypted-phone-data
Not surprisingly, law enforcement complain they will lose access to data and communications as more data can be encrypted - with Google and Apple providing ways to prevent outside snooping.

"Strong encryption is the cornerstone of the modern information economy's security," the open letter reads. "Encryption protects billions of people every day against countless threats - be they street criminals trying to steal our phones and laptops, computer criminals trying to defraud us, corporate spies trying to obtain our companies' most valuable trade secrets, repressive governments trying to stifle dissent, or foreign intelligence agencies trying to compromise our and our allies' most sensitive national security secrets."

FBI Director James Comey had this to say during a recent roundtable with the media: "There's no doubt that all of us should care passionately about privacy, but we should also care passionately about protecting innocent people."

Analyst believes Apple will release some form of TV in the future
Investor Carl Icahn believes Apple is planning an ultra-high-definition (UHD) TV launch sometime in the future, while other sources say the company shelved those plans more than one year ago. It's a suddenly bizarre discussion that has elicited a lot of passionate statements from analysts and journalists alike.

analyst-believes-apple-release-uhdtv-future
"According to sources in Silicon Valley familiar with Apple's thinking, Apple will enter into the television market in a huge way by providing an upgraded Apple TV CPU hub combined with a unique controller," according to Michael Yoshikami, CEO and founder of Destination Wealth Management, in an editorial published on CNBC. "It is likely to include both Siri voice recognition as well as a touch-pad interface that could also include force touch."

Interestingly, Yoshikami believes Apple could provide the "brains of the TV" and let consumers pick their own monitor or display - from a growing number of companies that would be more than happy to step in and help offer additional flexibility.

"TV defined by Apple will be the brain, the interface, and an alternative content platform to compete with Netflix."

Silk Road helped reduce risks users faced trying to buy narcotics
Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht was the mastermind of a billion-dollar online drug ring, according to the US federal government. He was convicted earlier in the year and could face life in prison for his crimes, with prosecutors still quiet on what type of prison term they are seeking at the May 29 sentencing.

silk-road-helped-reduce-risks-users-faced-trying-buy-narcotics
Joshua Dratel, Ulbricht's lead defense attorney, has issued a statement saying Silk Road made it safer to purchase and sell drugs. Using the Dark Web, customers could sell or purchase everything from marijuana and hash to cocaine, heroin or LSD - and despite reported overdose deaths - this is an argument that is rather unique.

"In contrast to the government's portrayal of the Silk Road website as a more dangerous version of a traditional drug marketplace, in fact the Silk Road website was in many respects the most responsible such marketplace in history, and consciously and deliberately included recognized harm reduction measures, including access to physician counseling," Dratel said in a recent court filing.

Even with the legal team's approach, Ulbricht will likely face a stiff sentence, after being convicted of money laundering, conspiracy to traffic narcotics, and five other felonies.

Is it possible robots will always need humans to help them function?
Even though there is new concern that artificial intelligence may lead to robots taking over, it's plausible to think that robots will always need humans.

possible-robots-always-need-humans-help-function
"Pilots, physicians and other professionals routinely navigate unexpected dangers with great aplomb but little credit," states a recent editorial published by he New York Times. "Even in our daily routines, we perform feats of perception and skill that lie beyond the capacity of the sharpest computers."

While that is true, some have wondered if that will begin to change when AI is able to learn - and adapt - to daily life. No one is really sure what is lies ahead for mankind and robotics, however, humans can work to ensure there are proper boundaries in place that robots must adhere to.

Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son said robots will be smarter than humans in the "near future," with major tech executives in the US concerned about the future of AI. As AI continues to develop in the future, there will be more debate regarding how humans can help make sure robots are kept under control.

Even if robots may not be able to overpower mankind, there is still plenty of concern surrounding robots taking jobs from their human counterparts.

Guillermo del Toro says 'Silent Hills' cancelation left him 'reeling'
Konami is facing management in-fighting and other problems, which led to the cancelation of Silent Hills, and it looks like Guillermo del Toro's foray into video games could be over. Hideo Kojima has reportedly left the company - though was helping with the Silent Hills project - but the budding friendship between Kojima and del Toro had to be placed on hold.

guillermo-del-toro-silent-hills-cancelation-left-reeling
"Well, you know, I've tried twice and I don't know if I'll ever come back to the form," del Toro recently said when asked by reporters. "In one instance, the company went down, and in the second, the completely unexpected happened, which was Kojima and Konami separating. It's kind of left me reeling."

It's a shame that Konami seemingly can't keep its act together, as Norman Reedus, Kojima and del Toro were all reportedly "super happy" with the progress made in Silent Hills. However, del Toro's Crimson Peak will be released in theaters this October, so he has plenty to help keep him busy outside of gaming.

MSI shoots down talks of a possible acquisition by Lenovo
The PC rumor mill is buzzing yet again, with unconfirmed reports published by DigiTimes indicating Lenovo is interested in purchasing the MSI gaming notebook unit. MSI isn't at the top in gaming laptops, but largely releases affordable products that have decent specs - but that doesn't mean MSI wants to get rid of its mobile gaming business.

msi-shoots-down-talks-possible-acquisition-lenovo
"In regards to the rumors circulating about [a] Lenovo and MSI acquisition, MSI is not in talk with Lenovo to sell the MSI Gaming Notebook business," said Andy Tung, president of MSI, in a statement to the media.

Even though the deal would make logical sense for Lenovo, which has been unable to break into gaming, MSI apparently isn't happy about the rumors - and has threatened possible legal action. "We are currently seeking the source of this false information and reserve the right to take any legal action," Tung confirmed.

US military working on mini-drone gliders to help spy on the enemy
US Navy scientists have created a miniature glider drone, dubbed the Cicada, which is designed for its simplistic and disposable functionality. The small drone doesn't have an engine and features just 10 moving parts and costs around $1,000 - and could drop in price down to $250 each - seems like nothing more than a circuit board attached to a paper airplane.

military-working-mini-drone-gliders-help-spy-enemy
After being dropped from a drone, airplane or other form of aircraft, the Cicada drones can be assigned GPS coordinates. During a live test three years ago, the drones were launched from almost 60,000 feet and successfully landed less than 15 feet of their intended target.

The drones could be equipped with microphones and other tools, opening the door to multiple possible missions.

"The idea was why can't we make UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) that have the same sort of profile," said Aaron Kahn, from the Naval Research Laboratory, in a statement to the AFP. "We will put so many out there, it will be impossible for the enemy to pick them all up."

IGEL redefines the entry-level thin client as a powerful desktop access device with its new UD2 series
IGEL today redefined the entry-level thin client market category with its latest smaller, more powerful and energy saving UD2 series. Previewed at IP Expo in Manchester ahead of its official release in June, the new UD2 is equipped with the latest Intel Atom Bay Trail processor and delivers hardware accelerated multimedia as well as an overall 30% performance increase with less energy consumption.

"The demands of the end-user have increased pressure on IT Departments to deliver multimedia, web access and social media capabilities as part of a standard user desktop," said Simon Richards, IGEL Technology Managing Director for UK & Ireland. "In response to this customer demand, IGEL has completely redesigned its entry level devices. Today's "entry level" is now quicker with more connectivity than the "power user thin client" from just a short time ago. The new UD2 is an accelerated thin client, capable of handling the tasks of the vast majority of today's office and knowledge-based workers, at an appealing entry-level price. Combined with our software approach of open architecture, ease of management, German design and environmental credentials, no other thin client desktop comes close."

Customers will also benefit from improved connectivity with two digital monitor outputs (DVI-I and DVI-D) for working with two displays. In addition to the three USB ports (2.0), a fourth USB 3.0 port has been built in to ensure even faster data transmission. The outstanding price/performance ratio makes the UD2 the perfect entry-level device for modern virtual desktop computing. Whether browser-based CRM and ERP systems, Microsoft Office/Office 365 or the smooth playback of full-HD videos, the IGEL UD2 is able to provide users with a superior experience in the entry-level category.

The slim thin client is supported by an Intel Atom processor (1.46 GHz single core), Intel HD Graphics (64 - 256 MB shared) and 2 GB RAM (DDR3L) and is also in a class of its own when looking at price performance.

Despite its performance characteristics the energy consumption levels of the UD2 are outstanding. It consumes just 5 watts in operation and when in stand-by mode less than 1 watt.

Availability

The new IGEL UD2 and the identically constructed IGEL Zero Client series (IZ2) are designed for dedicated access to virtualized desktops via Citrix HDX, Microsoft RemoteFX or VMware Horizon (PCoIP) and will be available from mid June, when UK pricing will be confirmed.

UltraSoC and Teledyne LeCroy collaborate to unify debug and validation for system designers
UltraSoC and Teledyne LeCroy today announce that they will collaborate on debug and validation technologies to reduce time-to-market and overall development costs in a wide range of high-tech industries, from automotive and computer peripheral manufacture, to emerging IoT applications.

Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, delivers a range of hardware and software tools that enables engineers to verify, test, debug, and validate electronic system designs. UltraSoC provides silicon IP for data acquisition and analysis that can be "baked-in" to the complex semiconductor devices (System on Chip or SoC) at the heart of such designs. The combination of Teledyne LeCroy's ability to provide a high-level view of system behavior and UltraSoC's capabilities to offer visibility deep within the SoC creates a powerful toolset that allows the engineer to quickly and instinctively understand the system's operation, spot problems and devise solutions.

These joint developments will benefit designers of a broad range of end-products. For example, hard disk manufacturers could combine protocol analysis of the external system-level interfaces, such as SATA, gathered via one or more Teledyne LeCroy instruments, with data gathered internally to the drive's controller chip by UltraSoC's UltraDebug technology. This capability will enable system developers to track information, including time sensitive events, as it flows from one side of an interface to another and correlate it with internal software execution.

"Teledyne LeCroy is the leading name in protocol test; electronic design engineers around the world rely upon their solutions every day," said Rupert Baines, UltraSoC CEO. "We believe that the combination of UltraSoC and Teledyne LeCroy technology will put a powerful and unique capability in the hands of those engineers, not just making their job easier but also fostering innovation and problem-solving."

Joe Mendolia, Vice President of Marketing at Teledyne LeCroy, said: "Building dedicated debug and analytics IP into semiconductor devices dramatically eases the task of post-silicon validation and debug, one of the key bottlenecks in time-to-market today. UltraSoC's technology allows SoC designers to put together IP and processing cores from multiple vendors, with a unified on-chip analytics capability. Teledyne LeCroy's key strengths are clearly complementary - in acquiring, displaying, and contextualizing such data. We're delighted to be working together."

Loring Wirbel, Senior Analyst with The Linley Group, commented: "As systems are growing more complex but development resources are stretched, anything that can accelerate debug, integration and time-to-volume becomes critical. We are seeing SoC companies and end-users placing far greater emphasis on development and debug early on in the design flow. Partnerships like this can significantly help both chip development and system level debug, and are an essential tool for anyone planning a complex development".

Joint work by the two companies will build on the capabilities of Teledyne LeCroy's protocol analysis instruments, CrossSync and InSight tools, combining these with UltraSoC's UltraDebug technology.

The two companies will disclose further details of the collaboration at the upcoming 52nd Design Automation Conference (DAC) at San Francisco's Moscone Center, June 7 - 11, 2015 on UltraSoC's Booth (#3501).

gigabyte-presents-latest-dual-socket-workstation-motherboard
3-Way Graphics

With the support of 3-way NVIDIA SLI & AMD CrossFireX technologies, this board can support up to 3 GPU cards running at full PCI-Express Gen3 x16 bandwidth. It is therefore targeting workstation applications where a 4th GPU card doesn't bring any significant marginal output improvement. This product is an ideal motherboard to build workstations dedicated to computing and graphics intensive applications, such as:

  • 3D modeling, rendering, animation, etc.
  • Audio & video production
  • Small scale scientific analysis & simulation
SAS 12Gb/s Storage

With an onboard LSI SAS 3008 controller, the MW70-3S0 supports up to 8 SAS drives running at 12Gb/s via two mini-SAS HD connectors. In addition to its ultra fast transfer rates, this controller is also capable of aggregating any SATA and SAS drives into a single 12Gb/s data stream thanks to the LSI DataBolt technology. Users can therefore enjoy a 12Gb/s speed while using lower grade 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s drives. This can bring a significant upgrade to a system without having to invest in new and expensive 12Gb/s SAS drives.

gigabyte-presents-latest-dual-socket-workstation-motherboard
DDR4 Memory Performance Edge

On Intel's previous server platforms, by design the maximum supported memory frequency has always been automatically downgraded the more DIMMs were being added on a server motherboard. As this trade-off between performance and capacity represents a dilemma to many memory-hungry server applications, GIGABYTE offers a unique solution. All the GIGABYTE boards based on the LGA 2011-3 socket support by default a maximum frequency of 2133 MHz in any memory configuration.

Easy BIOS Update

Because updating the version of a BIOS can be a troublesome experience, GIGABYTE has developed an integrated function (no utility to install) that lets you update the BIOS of your motherboard(s) :

Arctic Starts Selling Thermal Pads You Cut to Shape
ARCTIC Thermal Pad bridges problem-free even large spaces. After multiple awards with its thermal pastes, ARCTIC is now offering thermal pads as well. As perfect gap filler the Thermal Pad provides an optimal heat transfer and bridges even large height differences and uneven surfaces.

arctic-starts-selling-thermal-pads-cut-shape
Often it is troublesome to cool diverse components like memory chips, CPUs, MCUs, DSPs and other ICs densely packed. Different heights prevent a proper contact to the heat sink and thus make it useless. The thermal pad is perfect to close even large spaces completely. Due to its low hardness this silicon pad adapts ideally to uneven surfaces, also at low pressure and thus ensures the best possible heat dissipation. In the comparison test the Thermal Pad with its special filler and a high thermal conductivity can demonstrate its performance and leaves the competitors behind.

That's maximum performance at a minimum effort, since the installation of the Thermal Pad is child's play - perfect for beginners. It does not contain any metallic particles, is electrically isolating and not capacitive. The handling is safe as contact with any electrical trace would not result in damage of any sort.

RazerStore Grand Opening Halted Due To Overcrowding!
razerstore-grand-opening-halted-due-overcrowding
Due to overcrowding at the grand opening of the RazerStore in the Syntrend Mall in Taipei, mall management, citing safety concerns, requested that Razer suspend its weekend launch activities.

The opening of the new Razerstore purportedly drew thousands of fans from Taiwan and abroad, including the United States, Europe and Asia, which resulted in a line forming many hours before the store opening.

While Syntrend provided extensive security support for the event, the magnitude of people drawn to the mall for Razer's retail event were expected to exceed capacity, potentially taxing crowd control resources and impacting other tenants of the mall.

Razer will comply with Syndrend's request to suspend its previously planned activities this weekend. As a result, free Nabu X wearables will not be distributed to the first 250 visitors in line each day, May 16 and May 17.

The new Razerstore Taipei will still be open and operating during normal business hours this Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Razer community team on location plans to issue swag on a discretionary basis, honoring fans who come equipped with Razer gear, such as Razer Kraken headphones, shirts, bags and the likes.
