Apple's next-gen iPhone 6S could be 'biggest incremental' upgrade ever
A couple of days ago we wrote about the upcoming next-gen iPhone and referred to it as the iPhone 7, but it looks like Apple will be instead releasing another incremental upgrade: iPhone 6S.

apples-next-gen-iphone-6s-biggest-incremental-upgrade
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is usually pretty spot-on with Apple rumors, the upcoming iPhone 6S will be the 'biggest incremental 'S' upgrade' Apple has ever done. The new iPhone 6S should feature twice the amount of RAM with 2GB of LPDDR4 versus the 1GB of LPDDR3 found in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets.

Not only that, but we should see Apple use the A9 processor, an improved camera, new color option, sapphire display, strengthened shell, improved Touch ID and Force Touch just to name a few. I would dare say we'll also see iOS 9 unveiled with the new iPhone 6S, too. Kuo adds that we should expect a limited-edition iPhone 6S Plus that would feature a sapphire-based display, something Apple will be testing the waters with in smaller quantities.

Kuo says that we won't see a new 4-inch iPhone this year, with the Cupertino-based company to continue making the 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhones. Kuo added that the mass production of the new iPhones will start in August, with 80-90 million sales expected.

Leaked Intel roadmap reveals 10nm Cannonlake and Skylake-E for Q3 2016
We aren't even half way through the year but we're hearing about what Intel will be releasing in the second half of 2016, according to a new leaked roadmap from the chipmaker.

leaked-intel-roadmap-reveals-10nm-cannonlake-skylake-q3-2016
Intel is expected to launch the Skylake architecture during Computex 2015 next month, something that will include the flagship Core i7-6700K processor. But what about 2016? Well, we are looking at Intel moving into their first 10nm processors with the new Cannonlake architecture, which should be an extremely low-power CPU, something that is going to really take flight in Ultrabooks. The mobile parts will come out in 10nm first, with desktop CPUs made on the 10nm arriving sometime in 2017.

Moving onto the HEDT side of things, Intel will release its next-gen High-End Desktop processor in Q3 2016 in the form of Skylake-E. Before that, we should expect Broadwell-E in Q1 2016, which will work on the current LGA 2011-3 socket. The new Skylake-E architecture will launch sometime in the second half of 2016.

Ubisoft: No more Assassin's Creed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
The Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 have taken over, and Ubisoft won't bother too much with the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, the company has confirmed. Besides Just Dance, which will still ship for the previous console generation, don't expect to see other game series available for the older consoles.

ubisoft-more-assassins-creed-xbox-360-playstation-3
"On Just Dance, we will continue to bring old-gen console versions," said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, during a recent earnings briefing. "But on the other other products like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, the Division and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions."

In a rather bizarre news story from Canada, parents of a teenage son faced a rather volatile situation related to a video game console. The family was forced to call the police after their 13-year-old son freaked out and turned violent when his Sony PlayStation 4 game console was taken away.

Nasdaq using bitcoin technology for secure, efficient stock trades
Nasdaq may not be fully on the bitcoin bandwagon, but has found some bitcoin-related technology it will be able to leverage in the future. Specifically, the bitcoin blockchain will be leveraged, as it can provide a more efficient, fully-electronic service that can be used to keep records for the Nasdaq Private Market.

nasdaq-bitcoin-technology-secure-efficient-stock-trades
If nothing else, this is an important step to show that bitcoins have major potential in the financial and trading markets.

"Utilizing the blockchain is a natural digital evolution for managing physical securities," said Bob Greifeld, CEO of Nasdaq. "Once you cut the apron strings of need for the physical, the opportunities we can envision blockchain providing stand to benefit not only our clients, but the broader global capital markets."

This will be a curious effort by Nasdaq, as it is one of the first major financial services that wants to adopt the blockchain - but using it in a non-currency method.

Warner Music: Streaming music revenue now tops digital downloads
It looks like Warner Music Group, which confirmed it makes more revenue based on streaming music than digital downloads, has learned how important Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming services can be. The company noted a 33 percent increase in streaming income, and warned other labels not to shut the door on free, ad-supported streaming models that are currently offered to music listeners.

warner-music-streaming-revenue-now-tops-digital-downloads
"The rate of this growth has made it abundantly clear to us that in years to come, streaming will be the way that most people enjoy music," said Stephen Cooper, CEO of Warner Music, during a recent company earnings call. "Not only that, we are also confident that streaming's ongoing expansion will return the industry to sustainable, long-term growth."

Even though Cooper also added that ad-based and subscription-based services are "better than piracy," that isn't likely any solace in the news - the music industry has created absolutely insane business agreements that Pandora, Spotify, and other services were forced to adopt. Apple is preparing to launch Beats Music, pending record label support, though it won't even have a free membership available.

Verizon is purchasing AOL for $4.4 billion, valued at $50 per share, according to both companies early Tuesday morning. It's the latest strategic push by Verizon, as the company looks to expand its Internet of Things (IoT) offerings - and could benefit from AOL's digital and video experience.

report-verizon-purchasing-aol-4-billion
AOL, which was the dial-up ISP king in the 1990s, has generated millions in digital advertising revenue, while supporting major media brands such as Engadget, TechCrunch, and The Huffington Post. Verizon is preparing a mobile video service this summer, and could call upon AOL's advertising platforms.

"AOL has once again become a digital trailblazer, and we are excited at the prospect of charting a new course together in the digitally connected world," said Lowell McAdam, chairman and CEO of Verizon, in a public statement.

"We were, as a company, essentially very interested in the platform transition to mobile," said Tim Armstrong, CEO of AOL, in a public statement. "There is really a platform shift happening in the world."

Military wants to create better communication between robots, humans
Researchers from the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) and US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) are creating new methods for robots and humans to communicate more efficiently.

military-create-better-communication-between-robots-humans
The multi-modal human-robot dialogue would make use of natural language, but also include text, images and video processing. Ideally, military personnel would be able to more efficiently interact with computers and artificial intelligence, especially during missions when time is critical.

"Research and technology are essential for providing the best capabilities to our warfighters," said Dr. Laurel Allender, ARL Human Research and Engineering Directorate director, in a statement. "This is especially so for the immersive and live-training environments we are developing to achieve squad overmatch and to optimize soldier performance, both mentally and physically."

ICT will continue developing research focused on creating advanced immersive experiences that simulates human experience - and could have major implications for virtual humans, robots, and future technologies.

Apple Pay mobile payment system dominating the competition
Apple Pay wasn't the first mobile payment offering, but it certainly is the most high-profile solution for shoppers in the United States. It shouldn't be a surprise to hear that Apple Pay is in front of competitors, helping draw attention to the budding mobile payments market.

apple-pay-mobile-payment-system-dominating-competition
The Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX), a coalition supported by Walmart, CVS, and Target, hopes its CurrentC mobile payment solution can compete with Apple Pay. The company has not been able to successfully launch its payments app, though a "mid-sized market" is scheduled for sometime this summer.

"MCX has had another one of those really bad weeks," said Jordan McKee, analyst at the Yankee Group, in a statement published by TIME. "If they don't get something in the market soon, they're going to get passed by, plain and simple."

Mobile payments are expected to grow in popularity, even though banks, retailers, and consumers showed initial hesitancy.

ROCCAT Kave XTD 5.1 Analog Headset Review

Introduction

As the summary hints, this product is priced high and packed to the rafters with features, options, speakers, leather, LEDs and more.

roccat-kave-xtd-5-1-analog-headset-review
We've tested some great headsets recently including the well-priced Plantronics GameCom 788 and the high-performer Kingston HyperX Cloud II - this headset almost adds up to be worth both of these combined, so lets see how it performs. As a gamer who generally likes his products simple, I'm coming into this headset review with an open mind as I know ROCCAT is capable of making some great products.

Specifications

Offering you analog 5.1 surround-sound through the use of multiple drivers located within each ear cup, the KAVE XTD 5.1 gives you a 'true' surround-sound experience. The speakers are claimed to be positioned at a 12 degree angle for optimum sound and the center/front/read drivers provide a frequency response of 20 ~ 20,000 Hz with a maximum SPL at 1kHz equalling 115+-3dB. The drivers are neodymium in structure and have an impedance of 32 Ohms.

roccat-kave-xtd-5-1-analog-headset-review
The vibration driver comes in at 20~100 Hz as a 30mm driver and is powered through the supplied 3m cable which is long enough for anyone. The rubber arm microphone is detachable and has a tip-LED indicating when it's muted through the in-line control unit. This control unit can be clipped onto clothing, hung free or clipped onto the provided stand.

The in-line control unit has sound controls for each speaker respectively, a microphone mute, an overall sound option and the ability to switch between music and game modes. The end of the cable splits up into various 3.5mm connections for the sound plus a USB 2.0 in order to power the beast. It's also worth noting that the headset weighs in at a respectable 335 grams.

Pricing & Availability

The ROCCAT Kave XTD 5.1 is priced at $149.99 with free shipping from Amazon, sitting it in the premium gaming headset price spectrum as it costs more than products like the Kingston HyperX Cloud II and around the same as the ASTRO A40 without the Mixamp Pro bundle.

What's in the box?

Although highly priced, there's a fairly simple package. There's the product itself, a detachable microphone, a few very handy ties to keep cables together, and the microphone up when travelling and the in-line control unit stand. But no carry pouch!

roccat-kave-xtd-5-1-analog-headset-review
It's almost mandatory in my eyes that peripherals of today come with a carry pouch. There's nothing more handy than being able to easily store your precious gaming weapons when travelling to a LAN party, attending a gaming event or simply visiting a friend's house. The leather ear cups do not seem easily replaceable and there is no cloth options provided in the box or on the website for replacement if you're that way inclined.

patriot-wins-prestigious-2015-computex-design-innovation-award
The COMPUTEX d&i awards were selected by a panel of six distinguished experts on April 9, 2015 in Taipei, Taiwan. After careful examination and assessment of 271 entries, 72 were selected to receive this distinguished honor, including Patriot's Fuel iON. Degree of innovation, functionality, quality of design and brand value was some of the criteria used to evaluate the entries.

The awards will be presented on June 2, 2015 at the world's second largest ICT trade show, COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2015. The award-winning product, including the FUEL iON, will be on display at COMPUTEX 2015 until June 6, 2015 and will also be part of the award winners' exhibition at other ICT trade shows such as: IFA 2015 in Berlin, Germany, 2016 International CES in Las Vegas, USA, MWC 2016 in Barcelona, Spain and CeBit 2016 in Hanover, Germany.

"Patriot is honored to receive this recognition for innovation in technology for its Fuel iON ecosystem for the iPhone 6. We feel the Fuel iON will change the way people charge and use their smartphones, offering convenient charging and protection in daily use," said Taron Chang, Patriot's General Manager of APAC Headquarters. "We are excited to showcase our products at Computex 2015 and continue to develop new and innovative accessories for technology enthusiasts."

The Fuel iON ecosystem offers consumers a simple, viable and efficient solution to charge their smartphone and increase the longevity of the device by eliminating the need for a plug-in cord and reducing wear and tear on external ports. Patriot has developed a way to conductively charge a smartphone using neodymium magnets. The incredibly strong magnetic fields on both the Fuel iON phone cases and charging bases creates a direct connection between the two devices and snaps the phone into place; this allows for a charge that is comparable to plugging into a wall outlet.

patriot-wins-prestigious-2015-computex-design-innovation-award
In addition to the iPhone 6, the Fuel iON currently supports the iPhone 5/5s, Samsung Galaxy S4/5 and Note 3. Designed for versatility and convenience whether you are at home, work or on the road, all three provide solutions for charging anytime, anywhere in a functional way offering 360 degree rotational views.

For those who are constantly on-the-go Patriot also offers a 2100mAh magnetic portable battery that connects to the back of the case and provides an extra boost of power without the restrictions of connecting to a cord.
