Everybody can try Skype's real-time translation software
Skype's Translator app is one of those pieces of software that makes you feel like you're living in the future. Users can speak (or type) messages in their native language, and the application translates that communication into the recipient's native tongue in near-real-time. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is official, out October 23
The newest Assassin's Creed is official. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is set in 1868 London with a new pair of protagonists, the Frye twins, who seek to unite the poor against the capitalist oppressors of the Industrial Revolution—or something. Mediatek packs 10 cores into its Helio X20 SoC
The race to see who can pack the most cores into a mobile SoC is still on, apparently. Mediatek's latest, called the Helio X20, packs ten ARM cores onto its die.
ARM's big.LITTLE scheme combines high-performance Cortex-A57 (and soon, Cortex-A72 ) cores with smaller A53 cores for improved power efficiency. Verizon to purchase AOL for $4.4 billion
Remember AOL? You know, the dial-up Internet provider who used to send you all those free CDs? Well, the company has since transformed itself into something of a content and advertising giant—one Verizon plans to buy for a cool $4.4 billion. The telecommunications firm announced the acquisition today, and the press release suggests that both content and avertising are key components in the deal.
According to the Wall Street Journal , Verizon President of Operations John Stratton said at an investor conference today that "the principal interest was around the ad tech platform." Verizon is reportedly prepping a mobile-oriented video service ...

Nvidia brings 1080p60 Grid streaming to Shield devices
Nvidia is upping the visual fidelity of its Grid game-streaming service for Shield devices. The latest update for the Shield Hub Android app brings support for 1080p streaming at 60 FPS. Until today, the service was limited to 720p resolution at 60 FPS.
