Android M Expected to be Announced at Google I/O This Week
The annual Google I/O conference is taking place this week and it is expected that the company will reveal its next version of Android, Android M. Android L, or Lollipop, was revealed at the conference last year and another reveal this year would make sense. At this time the new version carries a codename of Macadamia Nut Cookie, though it will likely be changed to something shorter as previous version of Android have been. The new version of Android joins the also rumored Android based OS Brillo, targeted at Internet-of-Things based systems, and should provide for an exciting Google I/O this year.

DirectX 12 Shows Significant Improvement in Latest Windows 10 Build
DirectX 12 is the upcoming version of the graphics software from Microsoft, with a release planned for PC followed by XBOX One. A new preview build of Windows 10 was recently released and with it a new DirectX 12 build. A user on Reddit has decided to put the build to the test using some older hardware, in this case an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 paired with an Intel Core i7 2600K. The user observed that the new version of the API improves the number of draw calls by 330% which should greatly improve performance on PC but may not fare as well on the XBOX as "the Xbone is hideously GPU bound and while multithreaded performance SHOULD be good, the CPU is operating at a painfully slow clock rate."

AMD May Regain GPU Market Share from NVIDIA with Upcoming GPUs
Roughly a month ago, it was reported that NVIDIA successfully controlled 76 percent of the GPU market, leaving AMD with a paltry 24 percent. While NVIDIA is currently enjoying the sales of its 960, 970, and 980 series GPUs, a wealth of rumors surrounding the AMD Fiji GPUs and leaked benchmarks for the Fiji XT make the upcoming graphics card lineup from AMD look quite promising. Depending on the launch success of the various cards, AMD may be able to capture some of the market share currently controlled by NVIDIA, thereby lessening the gap between both companies. The highest profit margins for AMD and NVIDIA come directly from high-end products, and if AMD is able to release a competitor to the GeForce GTX TITAN X, the card may find its way into builds of enthusiasts and hardcore gamers and generate substantial revenue for the company.

AMD Actively Developing Catalyst 15.5 Beta Driver for Project CARS and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Just last week, the developer of Project CARS, Slightly Mad Studios, released an official statement in regards to the poor performance gamers have been struggling with on AMD GPUs. Fix Inbound for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Performance on NVIDIA Kepler GPUs
If, like many gamers, you picked up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and have been enjoying it immensely, yet are running an NVIDIA Kepler GPU and have noticed some performance issues, you aren't alone. Apparently some problems were discovered when playing The Witcher 3 on a Kepler GPU, although what exactly the problems are was not mentioned. It could be related to HairWorks or GameWorks in general, or just performance across the board. NVIDIA is working on a fix for them and will deliver it via a driver download, but when exactly it will arrive is not known. Maxwell GPUs aren't affected by the performance issues, so if you have one of those you're fine. Anyone running a Kepler GPU, however, just has to wait for the fix to get a boost. Once it arrives, we'll be sure to let you know.

Leaked AMD Fiji XT Benchmarks Appear, Shows Strong Performance
Another day, another round of rumors concerning AMD's upcoming Fiji XT card. This time we have some leaked benchmark numbers, courtesy of ChipHell, comparing a ton of video cards, including some unreleased and unknown ones. In the charts, the "GM200 cut 6GB" is apparently the GTX 980 Ti, while the "GTX 9** 3GB" is something different, potentially a GTX 960 Ti. The Fiji XT 4GB is the one to look at, and in an average performance of 19 different games at 4K, it comes out on top of every single card, even the TITAN X. Now, what games were tested? Who knows, because that isn't covered. The only mention of anything is "Maximum Settings." Dropping the resolution down to 2560x1600 again sees the Fiji XT in the lead, but again, no idea what games are grouped together at those "Maximum Settings." The 3DMark FireStrike Extreme shows the Fiji XT just narrowly edging out the TITAN X at 2560x1600, so it appears AMD has a winner here.
However, the power consumption was also tested, and frankly the Fiji XT is not going to win any awards for that. It manages to consume less power than the R9 290X, but only just, as it's a mere three watts less. Granted that is with an expected 4096 GCN cores instead of 2816, but still, it's a power hog.
Remember, all of this is just based on leaked numbers aggregated from unknown games. Is this really what we can expect from the Fiji XT? Possibly, but don't get your hopes up. We still need AMD to actually confirm the existence of these cards and the entire R9 300 series, which could happen quite soon, either during Computex or shortly after. Likewise we need NVIDIA to confirm the GTX 980 Ti, which could also happen in just about a week.
