Benchmarks Leaked for AMD Radeon R9 M385
Although AMD has been actively working on its latest desktop GPUs for the consumer market, which it will likely reveal at Computex 2015, it looks like the company has been hard at work on its next generation of mobile GPUs as well. GFXBench, a website that has provided accurate information on previously leaked AMD mobility GPUs, has posted benchmarks of the upcoming Mobility Radeon R9 M385 GPU. The Radeon R9 M385, which will likely be one of the many high-end options within the 300 Series Mobility lineup, looks to be a rebrand of the Tonga GPU, as both cards feature the same Device ID.
It is worth noting that it has been revealed that the leaked benchmarks are likely skewed in some unknown fashion, thereby making most of the data incapable of being compared.

Just Cause 3 and Mad Max Trailers Set to Arrive Tomorrow
Avalanche Studios has two titles coming out this year, with both Just Cause 3 and Mad Max promising big adventures and plenty of exploration. As it stands, both games are going to get a trailer tomorrow to help whet your appetite until E3 arrives. The Just Cause Twitter has recently lit up with teases and information, with a "Di Ravello is gathering his forces. We need 1000 new Rebels!" in one tweet. What exactly that means isn't known, but we can be sure to find out at least a little in tomorrow's trailer. Sadly no photo mode for Just Cause 3 is planned, and neither is a demo. Both past games had a demo, but as it stands JC3 does not. That may change the closer we get to release, but don't get your hopes up.
As for Mad Max, Avalanche teases that the "Wasteland is calling" and that we'll see more tomorrow. The game sees the title character rebuilding his Interceptor to have some meaning in the Wasteland, with thousands of mods at our disposal. Vehicular combat is also going to play a big part, with all sorts of weapons able to be attached to the car. Stealth, gunplay, and melee combat will help Max survive out in the post-apocalyptic wastes, and we'll be able to upgrade his stats, gears, and abilities along the way.
Just Cause 3 is slated for a release near the end of this year, with Mad Max arriving on September 1, 2015. Check back with us tomorrow for these trailers and whatever new information comes with them.

Tabletop Particle Detector May Measure the Energy of an Electron
Right now billions of neutrinos are streaming through your body, without interacting with any of your cells. Neutrinos are weird particles like that, as they do not interact with much of anything, so we have little knowledge of them. Researchers at MIT, however, may be bringing us closer to determining their mass with a new particle detector.
Many processes emit neutrinos, including the decay of tritium into an isotope of helium. When this happens, a neutrons turns into a proton and emits an electron and a neutron. As the sum of the output must add up to the input, researchers want to narrow down the energy of a single electron to determine the mass of a single neutrino. To that end the MIT researchers have built a particle detector that can pick up the emissions of a single electron. It works by trapping the electron in a magnetic bottle, and then, when the electron moves through a magnetic field, it emits radio waves, which can be used to analyze the electron.
This new detector is small enough to fit on a table top and the area the electrons are tracked in is smaller than a stamp. This in comparison to an advanced spectrometer being used elsewhere that barely fit in city streets. Currently the detector has only worked with krypton, but in a couple years it should be able to move up to tritium.

Total War: WARHAMMER is Upon Us
Total War is heading to the world of Warhammer after all, as The Creative Assembly has officially unveiled Total War: WARHAMMER. This is the land of fantasy, where giant monsters roam the landscapes; humans, elves, and dwarfs square off against orcs, the undead, and goblins; and where lizardmen, skaven, and the forces of Chaos can join the fight, too. There are heroes to contend with, flying creatures to fend off, and magical abilities that could turn the tide of battle. It is a decidely different take on the Total War franchise, but as you can see in the announcement trailer below, one that should prove for an intense experience. The footage in the trailer is all CGI, since the Creative Assembly isn't quite ready to show the game off in earnest. That doesn't take away from the excitement and action. The Old World is faced with war, betrayal, and an "unfathomable power," but something else lurks to the north that starts to pull at the fabric of reality. Perhaps Chaos is coming.
Total War: WARHAMMER features a turn-based campaign to try and build up your empire, treat with your neighbors, and wage war when you must. There will be a mulitude of races to play as, with Goblins and Orcs; Dwarfs; and Vampire Counts known so far. Given that we see Karl Franz, the Emperor of Mankind, in the trailer, hopefully that means the Empire is a fourth playable faction. The release date is just a simple "coming soon," but hopefully we'll find out that and more once E3 arrives. Sega and the Creative Assembly are planning a trilogy, with Total War: WARHAMMER leading the way, and then two more standalone games and expansion packs planned.

DiRT 4 Appears in NVIDIA Drivers
Recently it was discovered that a Crossfire profile for DiRT 4 was included in the latest beta drivers, even though the game has not been announced. It turns out there are a 3D and SLI profile for the game in NVIDIA drivers as well. The 3D profile is rated 'Excellent,' so the game must run well with a NVIDIA 3D Vision setup. At this point it must only be a matter of time before Codemasters announces the game, since the graphics drivers are apparently ready for it.

Rockstar Reportedly Mapping the Entire U.S. for Grand Theft Auto VI
Grand Theft Auto V may finally be available on all the systems it was originally meant for, but now it looks like Rockstar is looking ahead to the next entry. Grand Theft Auto VI is reportedly already in development, and while details are scarce, as expected, one thing stands out. Apparently, Rockstar is mapping the entirety of the U.S. for Grand Theft Auto VI, which would make for one massive adventure. Los Santos and Blaine County in GTA V is already huge, but if we get to explore a whole country in GTA VI, well, Rockstar could contend for one of the largest game worlds ever, depending on how it plays out. Ubisoft's The Crew also has the U.S. in it, but a heavily condensed version that you can zip from coast to coast in about 90 minutes. There's a lot of boring bits in between when you're driving across the country, and those long stretches of tedium would not translate well into a game. Odds are that if Rockstar includes the whole U.S. in GTA VI, it will be condensed just like in The Crew.
Remember, this is all just a rumor, albeit an interesting one, and we probably won't see Grand Theft Auto VI until 2020 if the studio is undertaking a massive mapping procedure (or even if it just bumps up the game world to be twice as big as GTA V). For right now, we have GTA V and everything in its game world, which should serve us quite well for some time.

Graphene Converts Light to Electricity at Amazing Speeds
One day we may be able to say graphene has no secrets left, but that time has not come yet. One of the material's potential uses is for converting light to electrical signals, which could find it applications in cameras, sensors, solar cells, and data communication. Now researchers at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) have determined just how fast this conversion process is; under 50 femtoseconds.
Graphene is an atom-thick sheet of carbon atoms that has some special electrical properties, including very fast and efficient interactions between electrons. These interactions naturally come into play with this high conversion speed. When a pulse of light strikes graphene, the researchers found, it causes the electrons to disperse and their temperatures to rise very quickly. This electron heat is converted into a voltage when it comes to the interface between graphene regions with different doping. Thus the effect is actually photo-thermoelectric and occurs almost instantly.
This research could obviously lead to ultra-fast optoelectronic conversion systems, which could be put to use for data transmission, amongst other applications.

Inventory Issues May Plague AMD Radeon R9 390X Launch
AMD is still expected to launch its upcoming Radeon R9 390X, which offers some excellent performance according to early benchmarks, at Computex 2015. Industry sources familiar with the matter have noted that while the card may launch on time, it may be subject to inventory issues, which would hinder sales of the card substantially. The limited supply of the AMD Radeon R9 390X may come as a result of some hurdles with yields on HBM, which would cause the card to feature limited availability for the remainder of the calendar year.
With the recent news of AMD posting a $180 million first quarter loss and the company only accounting for 24 percent of the GPU market, investors and consumers alike can only hope that the Radeon R9 390X features a problem-free launch.
