Google Wants to Rank Websites Based on Facts Not Links
Google could be getting ready to explore the possibilities of switching its ranking system from the number of incoming links to one that counts the number of incorrect facts on the website. There's a lot of websites out there that will have to scramble to be rated at all if Google indeed does opt to switch to the trustworthiness scale for rankings.
A Google research team is adapting that model to measure the trustworthiness of a page, rather than its reputation across the web. Instead of counting incoming links, the system which is not yet live counts the number of incorrect facts within a page.

20-year-old Military Weather Satellite Apparently Exploded in Orbit
The US Air Force announced one of their military satellites suddenly exploded in orbit in what was described as a catastrophic event. The 20-year old satellite, called Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Flight 13 was launched in 1995 and has been in a backup role since 2006.
We anticipate real-time weather data for tactical users will be slightly reduced without this satellite, but its data was not being used for weather forecast modeling.

Google Pays $25 Million for.app TLDN
You can always tell a company that is flush with cash, but you sure can't tell them much. Google has gone shopping again for TLDNs and came away with the most expensive Top Level Domain Name ever. Google just purchased .app for a whopping $25 Million dollars.
The price is more than three times as much as the previous record for a new top-level domain, the $6.8 million paid by Dot Tech LLC in September for the ".tech" top-level domain. Google rival Amazon.com AMZN -1.21% paid $4.6 million for the ".buy" domain name in September and $2.2 million for ".spot" in October.

First Full-Scale Hyperloop to Launch in California in 2016

Elon Musk's group will be pursuing the construction of a test track to explore the physics side of the Hyperloop in Texas. The other group, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, will be constructing a fully functional five-mile loop in California, capable of 200 MPH speeds to test functionality on actual passengers.
"This installation will allow us to demonstrate all systems on a full scale and immediately begin generating revenues for our shareholders through actual operations," CEO Dirk Ahlborn said in a statement.

Toyota Begins Production of Its First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car
Production has begun in Japan on Toyota's new hydrogen fuel cell auto. The new hydrogen powered vehicle called the Mirai, fuels basically like a standard car in about five minutes and can then travel up to 300 miles on a fill up. Base price for the Mirai will be $57,500.

A new survey from Kroll Ontrack found that SSDs are being widely adopted by the masses, but while very fast and energy efficient, the SSD incidences of failure are also on the rise.
