Fingernail-sized Samsung device combines 3GB of RAM, 32GB of flash
Samsung has developed a fingernail-sized device with enough memory and storage for high-end smartphones. This ePoP, or embedded package on package, combines 3GB of LPDDR3-1866 memory with 32GB of eMMC storage. Those components are typically separate, but Samsung has squeezed them into a 15 x 15 x 1.4 mm package that's small enough to stack on top of an SoC.

iOS beat Android in the U.S. last quarter, says research firm
You could say Apple scored a home run with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The new handsets didn't just help Apple break earnings records. According to market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, they also allowed Apple to nab the lion's share of the U.S. smartphone market last quarter.

Backblaze releases raw data behind HDD reliability reports
For more than a year, online backup provider Backblaze has been releasing reliability stats on the tens of thousands of mechanical hard drives in its storage clusters. Although that environment isn't entirely representative of what drives will encounter inside a typical PC, the reports have been enlightening—and the results seem to track with a lot of folks' experiences.
