Japan Sees 25B Online Attacks In 2014
I sure would like to know what qualifies as an "online attack" because 68 million a day seems pretty damn high.

More than 25 billion online digital attacks on the Japanese government and other bodies were logged in 2014, an agency has said, with 40 percent of them traced to China. The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), which has a network of a quarter of a million sensors, said there were 25.66 billion attempts to compromise systems, according to a report by Kyodo News.

Europeans Dismiss The President's Remarks About Protectionism
This isn't surprising. If it's not about levying fines against U.S. tech companies (or taxing them), the European Commission doesn't want to hear a damn thing our government has to say.

Our role is to ensure that companies which are doing business on our continent play by the same rules. We need to protect our citizens. At the same time, we want to encourage companies — being European or not — to develop, invest and make the most out of a market of 500 million potential customers. Uniform rules — rather than a patchwork of 28 different regimes — are a market opener. The Single Market with over 500 million potential customers is a golden opportunity.

Long time forum member AjFreimuth says he contacted Amazon about his recent purchased of a GeForce GTX 970 and was given a 20% refund after he expressed his displeasure with the whole 3.5GB (actual) vs. 4GB (advertised) VRAM debacle. Obviously your mileage may vary but, if you ordered your GTX 970 on Amazon, it might be worth giving them a call. His chat log with Amazon customer service is posted here.

I just got off of Amazon chat. They refunded me 20% ($70) for my Asus Strix GTX 970.

Automation Formula Controls Your Computer From Your Car
Wait, aren't we supposed to be trying to control our car from the computer, not vice - versa?

We've been promised lots of things in The Future. Some of are panning out (see: autonomous vehicles) and others are still pipe dreams (see: flying cars). But we're getting closer to Jetsons-style home automation, and one enterprising Mac nerd isn't waiting around for automakers and consumer electronics companies to make it happen.

ID-Cooling SE-204K Review
The crew at Overclockers Club just put the finishing touches on their review of the ID-Cooling SE-204K CPU cooler.

Performance was on par with similar sized (and price) coolers. The SE-204K is a nice jump beyond OEM cooling, but still a sizable notch below the larger dual tower coolers with 140mm fans, and that is no surprise. For daily use in a mild gaming rig, this cooler will be right at home. If you really overclock and frequently load your system, you may want to look at a larger capacity cooler.

Facebook Still Suspending Native Americans Over 'Real Name' Policy
Didn't Facebook go though this whole mess a while back with the drag queens?

Dana Lone Hill, a Native American, had her account reinstated last week after being asked to provide multiple forms of identification. Lone Hill is one of many Native Americans to report having their accounts suspended or names changed to match Facebook's policy. "Katy Perry's Left Shark from her Super Bowl halftime show has a Facebook page and we have to prove who we are," Lone Hill wrote in a blogpost last week.
