Samsung: Our Smart TVs Do Not Monitor Living Room Conversations
In a blog post today, Samsung stated that its smart TVs do not monitor living room conversations and has since changed the language in its privacy policy.

The first is through an embedded microphone inside the TV set that responds to simple predetermined TV commands such as changing the channel and increasing the volume. Voice data is neither stored nor transmitted in using these predetermined commands.

The second microphone, which is inside the remote control, requires interaction with a server because it is used for searching content. A user, for example, can speak into the remote control requesting the search of particular TV programs (ex: "Recommend a good Sci-Fi movie"). This interaction works like most any other voice recognition service available on other products including smartphones and tablets.

Twitter's CFO Twitter Account Hacked

FCC Commissioner: Public Is Being Misled About Net-Neutrality Plan
Obviously nobody knows anything at this point but, playing the Devil's advocate, what if this guy ends up being right?

"The American people are being misled about President Obama's plan to regulate the Internet," he said in a statement, suggesting that Obama had pressured Wheeler into reclassification. "Last week's carefully managed rollout was designed to downplay the plans of a massive intrusion in the Internet economy." The FCC has answered questions about the plan in its own press conference, and Wheeler released a four-page document explaining its major points.

FrozenCPU Shuts Its Doors
A word of caution to anyone that was planning on making a purchase from FrozenCPU, word has it that the company has fired all its employees and is closing down. We have reached out to the owner for comment but have not gotten any reply at this time.

The owner has struggled a long battle with addiction, and events that unfolded earlier last week have rendered the company unoperational and shut down for good. Physical damage of the warehouse has occurred as well as the dismissal of all support and warehouse staff; the company has no plans of re-establishing themselves.

Bad Comcast Service? Call The CEO's Mom
I'm on the fence on this one. Sure, Comcast sucks at customer service but calling the CEO's 92 year old mother to complain is a dick move.

I GREW UP in a neighborhood where even the really bad kids could be brought back in line when someone tattled on them to their moms. That's why I picked up the phone on Thursday and called the 92-year-old mother of Comcast Corporation's chairman and CEO Brian Roberts.

Hackers Unknowingly Gather Intel For The NSA
The NSA would like to personally thank hackers everywhere for all they do to help the agency.

Startups With Shorter Names Are More Likely to Succeed
Who knew that all you needed for your startup to be successful was a short name. Here comes the rush of new businesses with single digit names.

With companies, particularly in tech, there has been a tendency to form names by misspelling common words, dropping vowels, or appendly "ly" (think: Flickr, Feedly, Pinterest, and so on). While the study in Science only examined name length in terms of number of words, Stern says the principles of eliminating letters are probably the same. "Firms are looking for names that are easy to remember, that will come up in a search," he says.

Privacy Is A Myth On The Internet
Wait, are you trying to say there is no privacy on the intertubes?

Celebgate and Sony made it all the more evident that a picture or an email is only private until it's hacked. NSA's pervasive spying on millions of citizens was made public knowledge, yet government surveillance continues to rise. According to the Web Index report, over 1.8 billion people "face severe violations of their rights to privacy and freedom of expression when they go online."
