Microsoft Trademarks 'Windows 365'
Microsoft has filed for a trademark on Windows 365 leading many to believe that sometime in the future, Microsoft intends to take the operating system down the same road as Microsoft Office. From the announcement that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade, it doesn't look like there will be a subscription based fee in the near future, but from all indications, it looks like that is the direction Microsoft is taking.
Although, Microsoft has recently filed for a trademark for 'Windows 365', which adds a bit of fuel to the subscription based version of Windows. While this trademark could be a defensive claim, to make sure it is not taken by another company, if and when Microsoft does announce a subscription version of Windows, 'Windows 365" would likely be the name.

SpaceX is up for another stab at a controlled soft landing on a drone platform in the Atlantic. Elon Musk puts the odds on this second attempt at an even 50/50 and we'll either be witnessing history being made or be treated to an excellent fireworks display at SpaceX expense. Either way, you are sure to enjoy the show. NASA and SpaceX will be streaming the entire event viewable in the embedded article beginning at 5:50 PM EST.
SpaceX equipped this rocket with more hydraulic fluid, which was the main problem the last time, but the first stage of the rocket has to go through carefully choreographed aerial maneuvers on a flight path that Musk says is even more tricky than the last one.

Apple Is Talking to TV Programmers About Its Own Web TV Service
Apple is making an awful lot of noise lately about jumping into the TV business with the likes of Dish and Sony. The service would be Internet based, bundling together programming and selling directly to the Internet consumer. Apple is said to be presently in talks with providers about securing programming. It may or may not come to pass, but it would be novel to be able to pick and choose the programming we wish to see.
Industry executives say Apple is in talks with TV programmers about deals that would allow Apple to offer an "over the top" pay-TV service, like the one Dish has started selling with its Sling TV product, and the one Sony is getting ready to launch.

Microsoft Quietly Had a Really Good Week
Microsoft looks to be doing a lot of things right since the installment of Satya Nadella as CEO. Microsoft is making good on promises of creating one operating system that will span all of Microsoft's product lines and also bringing the company's services to other platforms.
The ability to reach all Windows customers with one app may appeal to some developers who weren't interested in writing an app that only worked with Windows 8, or only on Windows Phone.

Anthem's Stolen Customer Data Not Encrypted
More bad news for the customers concerning Anthem's hack from earlier this week. Anthem's CEO Joseph Swedish made the announcement on Friday that none of the personal information of the 80 Million or so employees and members was encrypted. It's amazing that huge corporations like Anthem don't feel it's important to divulge all of the facts up front.
The HIPPA ruling recommends using encryption if the health insurer believes it's an appropriate measure to mitigate risk. But lacking a specific requirement essentially leaves it up to each company to decide how to protect its data.

The Latest Numbers Suggest Netflix Really Is Killing Traditional TV
Cord cutters always seem to have a little glint in their eye and wry smile on their faces whenever we run a story on traditional TV's steady loss of customers. The streamers like Netflix, Prime, Hulu, et al are taking a bigger bite than usual according to the latest figures from Nielsen, with the Guardian reporting traditional viewing has fallen 12% in the past year.

UK Universities Ban Watches in Exam Halls Ahead of Apple Watch Release
Looks like some universities in the UK are getting a big jump on the upcoming flood of Smartwatches that will be released this year. Buzzfeed reports that several of the universities in the UK have already established policies on the non-use of smartwatchs in an exam setting, with many more expected to follow suit in the near future.
Students are already asked to place mobile phones in a plastic wallet under their desk, so we adopted the same procedure for watches. Students either don't wear them to an exam venue, or they remove the watch in the venue and place it in the plastic wallet.
