iHeart Gadget and App claims to predict heart disease and more
iHeart is a new tool tailored towards health conscious consumers. Coming out of Vancouver, BC - this product and app claims to measure your aortic stiffness, said to be able to give you a readout of your physiological age among other things.

'Vitalsines' is the Bio-Tech start-up company behind this venture. Their president Dr. Jess Goodman explained their goals in a recent press release as "[wanting] to provide people with a system that objectively shows how positive lifestyle choices extend lifespan". She goes on to explain their new development as "a product that is complimentary to other fitness tools on the market. iHeart is a window to the life sustaining world within. It gives people the positive reinforcement to continue with their positive lifestyle changes".

This product comes in two parts - a Bluetooth fingertip 'oximeter' and a paired iOS application. Explained as a 'non-invasive' technology, this device will conduce a 30 second scan on your arterial pulse signal, sending the information directly to your iOS device with the free application installed. You'll then be able to see the readout of your Aortic stiffness and physiological age immediately with this information being stored locally on your device and the http://www.iHeartalive.com webpage - allowing you to track progress.

GTA V boss talks about sales bans, says it's really 'disappointing'
We know that both Target and Kmart Australia have banned Grand Theft Auto V from their shelves, with a petition that has been fired back by peeved gamers that want to see the Bible banned from sale, too. Well, now Take-Two Interactive's Chairman and CEO, Karl Slatoff has stepped up to talk about it all.

TweakTown image gta-boss-talks-sales-bans-disappointing
Slatoff talked at the BMO Capital Markets 2014 Technology & Digital Media Conference, where he said that people who find individual pieces of content offensive should simply not purchase that product. He said: "It's one thing for someone to not want to buy a piece of content, which is completely understandable. And that's really the solution. If you don't like it and it's offensive to you, then you don't buy it".

He also talked about the petition, and that the results were an infringement on free speech, where he added: "For a person or a group of people to try to make that decision for millions of people... We have 34 million people who bought Grand Theft Auto, and if these folks had their way, none of those people would be able to buy Grand Theft Auto. And that really just flies in the face of everything that free society is based on. It's the freedom of expression, and to try to squelch that is a dangerous and slippery slope to go down".

Take-Two's business will not be affected at the end of the day, which is something Slatoff reiterated by saying: "It's really more disappointing for us in that regard than it is in the context of our business. Our business is going to be completely unaffected by this; it doesn't make a difference to us. At the end of the day though, it's not something you want because it's a poor leadership decision".

TweakTown image lastpass-automatically-changes-passwords-hacked-websites
To utilize this feature, you will need to log in to your LastPass account, navigate to whichever website you want to setup this new feature for, click Edit and select the "Change Password Automatically" feature. There are approximately 75 websites currently supported by this program with major players including; Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and Home Depot.

Once finalized, LastPass automatically changes your passwords for you. This is done by it opening up the browser locally on your screen, logging in and changing the password automatically. There hasn't been any mention on exactly how LastPass gets the hack information delivered directly, but it's a seemingly good precaution to have just in case something goes wrong. Currently supporting Chrome, Safari and Firefox, this automatic feature is featured in Beta format. The point of this program is to manage multiple websites all under one banner, allowing it to quickly and efficiently deal with threats without you having to do it manually step-by-step.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be published by Microsoft for Xbox One
Microsoft has a nice exclusive for the Xbox One next year, with Rise of the Tomb Raider hitting its console sometime in 2015. The company's Head of Global Product Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, announced the news on Twitter. Greenberg said: "Yes we are publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider".

TweakTown image rise-tomb-raider-published-microsoft-xbox-one
The company announced its exclusivity of the sequel to Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider at E3 2014 earlier this year, and then at Gamescom 2014, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President Phil Harrison announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be a timed exclusive for the Xbox One. This means the PlayStation 4 and PC could see Rise of the Tomb Raider sometime after it hits the Xbox One, but that timed exclusive for Microsoft could be months.

The reboot of Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics has been a big hit for the company, with Tomb Raider selling millions upon millions of copies across the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It was then released for the PS4 and Xbox One as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, and then we've just had the launch of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, too.

Addonics releases ultra-fast portable HDD/SSD readers
Coming out of San Jose, CA - Addonics Technologies has recently announced their UDD25, a pocket-sized device family that can read multiple data storage devices ranging from 2.5-inch HDD's to CF Cards.

TweakTown image addonics-releases-ultra-fast-portable-hdd-ssd-readers
Said to provide the user with up to 6Gbps in both internal and portable versions, Addonics also claims support for write-protected devices that support read only. Their external Pocket UDD25 model can read/write to 2.5" SATA drives at the same speeds that any normal internal drive could, the same being said for their internally mounted option - which can be sat in your case in any 3.5-inch drive bay. Both of these models connect through a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.

When connected to an eSATA 3.0 port, these devices claim a peak transfer speed of 6 Gbps, lowered slightly to 5 Gbps if you're utilizing a USB 3.0 connection. With new products like this on the market listed for a low $45, alongside SSD's reaching an ultra-low pricing structure, don't be surprised to see some people using this kind of technology to start transferring data compared to your standard 500 GB+ pre-built HDD enclosure. Not only is this smaller and lighter, it's going to be a lot faster too.

I remember back to my high schooling period, when flash drives were uncommon, I would use a CF card reader with a 32mb card installed to transfer my data around - what's stopping you now using a super-cheap 120GB SSD to take your high-capacity projects to school? This could work wonders for working on projects like housing design or 3D modelling tasks.

Both the internal and portable devices are available now from Shop Addonics and major retail stores including Amazon and Buy.com.

Creative Assembly adds two new difficulty modes to Alien: Isolation
Alien: Isolation is one of the scariest, most atmospheric games ever made... so why not make it even harder? That must be the exact train of thought that Creative Assembly, the developer of the game, is on, as they've just announced two new difficulty modes for the game. Novice, and Nightmare.

TweakTown image creative-assembly-adds-two-new-difficulty-modes-alien-isolation
Novice will slide in before Easy, Normal and Hard modes, but it's the Nightmare mode that has people excited. Creative Assembly promises that the new Nightmare mode provides the "ultimate alien". Nightmare cranks up the scares by making your motion tracker not-so-perfect, as its signal can be kinda on the fritz half the time. Other tweaks inside of the Nightmare mode for Alien: Isolation include faster-burning fuel for your flamethrower that is also harder to find.

The Novice mode for the game provides a slower, less adaptive and not-so-clicked-on Xenomorph, which can be good for gamers who don't want to be replacing their pants every 15 minutes. The combat in Alien: Isolation is also dialled down a notch on Novice, making it easier to play through the game in general.

DICE still have content on its way for Battlefield 4
Even after the release of Final Stand, the fifth piece of DLC for Battlefield 4, DICE has said that they're not finished with the game. The developer has said that it wants to see gamers continue to tell them what they'd like to see in the form of future DLC for the first-person shooter.

TweakTown image dice-still-content-way-battlefield-4
DICE said in its latest Battlelog update: "With Battlefield 4 Final Stand released, we hope and believe that you will enjoy it together with the rest of the game for a long time. However, there is one thing we want to assure you: there is more content coming for Battlefield 4". We don't know what that will arrive as exactly, but DICE did add: "rest assured that we'll get back to you on the future of Battlefield 4 when the time is right".

Polygon reports that we could expect more reimagined maps, which are maps from the older Battlefield 4 games, remade in the well-powered Frostbite 3 engine. EA and DICE will have to do something with BF4, as there's no flagship Battlefield game coming out until 2016, with Battlefield 5 promised for two years from now. Battlefield: Hardline is coming next year, being developed by Visceral Games, but it's not a "true" Battlefield 4 successor. Bring on 2016.

Smartphone prices are continuing to drop, and 75 percent of consumers will be able to choose full-featured smartphones for $100 or less by 2020. Piratebay servers raided by Swedish police, might be down for good
Some users have noticed that The Piratebay has been down for a much longer time than the normal sporadic downtime bursts. At 12 hours, and counting, many have suspected the worst. Google recently moved against apps made for Android devices that accessed the popular site, and many had speculated that Google may have had a hand in Piratebay's disrupted service. It turns out Swedish police are the culprit. The Piratebay, deemed the "The galaxy's most resilient BitTorrent site", had its apocalyptic safe haven in Sweden raided by the police.

TweakTown image piratebay-servers-raided-swedish-police-down-good
The raid was conducted by Fredrick Ingblad, a specialized inspector in intellectual property crimes. A specialized forensics team and local police seized servers and computers, effectively bringing the popular torrent site to its knees. Piratebay has been under fire for years and the original founders ended up in jail for their efforts. The scrappy site was spread out amongst the wind and managed to continue to thrive for several years, though eventually the website was changed from thepiratebay.org to thepiratebay.se.

The server room was found in a rock shelter in Nacka, Sweden. This is likely the secure Swedish Datacenter AB. This datacenter is housed inside a five-story building inside a gigantic rock cavern. The converted nuclear shelter has concrete walls and the requisite blast doors to hold back the worst of catastrophes, but it couldn't stop the Swedish police. It's hard to believe that one of the largest websites in the world, currently ranked 88 worldwide and 55 in the US, can be kept off-line for long. An employee was arrested during the raid, and there are apparently interrogations underway. We will keep an eye on the status of the site, and shout a joyful "Hallelujah!" if they manage to bring it back online.

Countries developing cyber armies, finding good return on investment
China and Russia are two of the largest cyberespionage threats to the Western world, but countries like North Korea are able to cause significant damage on relatively modest budgets, cybersecurity experts warn.

TweakTown image countries-developing-cyber-armies-finding-good-return-investment
As witnessed by the successful breach of Sony Pictures Entertainment, which has caused the company significant financial damage - and continued downtime - foreign attackers are finding easy targets to compromise. In North Korea, the reported 1,800 members of Bureau 121, the secret North Korean hacker brigade, live a pampered lifestyle in Pyongyang - with high levels of motivation to carry out cyberattacks.

"While North Korea's massive conventional forces have been declining due to aging and lack of resources... North Korea is emphasizing the development of its asymmetric capabilities," said Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, United States Forces Korea commander. "Cyber warfare is an important asymmetric dimension of conflict that North Korea will probably continue to emphasize - in part because of its deniability and low relative costs."

HBO reportedly set to launch its standalone online service in April
HBO reportedly will push its standalone video service live in April, just in time for the Game of Thrones season premiere, according to unconfirmed reports. It would be great timing for HBO, as Game of Thrones averages 18.4 million viewers per episode, and could attract users to the service.

TweakTown image hbo-reportedly-set-launch-standalone-online-service-april
HBO has remained silent about the report, but the memo was issued by Mark Thomas, HBO SVP of technology program management, along with Drew Angeloff, HBO SVP of digital products.

HBO and other broadcasters want to embrace streaming video - utilizing standalone Internet-based services - as a way to attract customers interested in cord cutting. There has been some resistance to the effort, especially from cable and satellite providers, but premium subscription companies must adjust based on changing customer demands.

Nintendo continues momentum into best potential Christmas in years
Nintendo has endured several years of uncertainty and chaos, but appears to be ready to end 2014 on an extremely high note. Despite losing $193 million in 2013, Nintendo has enjoyed success from Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and Amiibo, the company will also sell an estimated 3.6 million Wii U console units in 2014. Amiibo sales in the US should top $1 billion, and shows President Satoru Iwata's decision of sticking with game titles for Nintendo devices alone isn't as disastrous as once believed.

TweakTown image nintendo-continues-momentum-best-potential-christmas-years
"Nintendo has picked up good momentum heading into the Christmas season," said Tomoaki Kawasaki, analyst from Iwai Cosmo Securities, regarding Nintendo's recent success. "This time they have a hit lineup. Amiibo represents a new revenue source, and we are watching it very closely."

It may have taken longer than expected, but the Wii U game catalog continues to strengthen - after poor sales in 2012 and 2013 - as Nintendo caters to a niche gaming demographic when compared to Microsoft and Sony.

CMStorm QuickFire Rapid-i TKL Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction, Specifications and Pricing

TweakTown image cmstorm_quickfire_rapid_i_tkl_mechanical_gaming_keyboard_review
Cooler Master and the CMStorm team need no introductions at this point; really, if you do not know who they are, or have never seen their gear before, then you are either five years old, or you really should get out more. From what we have gathered from our own personal experiences, and from what we have seen on YouTube, when it comes to mechanical keyboards, CMStorm's are crazy tough. CMStorm is the only keyboard manufacturer I know of that runs their keyboards over with many different vehicles, and shows, without a video cut or edit, that these keyboards will indeed continue to work after a couple of tons tests every Cherry MX switch on their board to extreme levels.

It is highly unlikely that you want to take your new keyboard outdoors and run it over, as you may scuff the surface treatments. However, it is reassuring to know that if a 4X4 can run these over and they can take it, then they can take anything you can dish out. These keyboards will outlast heated game play, and even with a super aggressive temper, it is unlikely that slamming your fists or throwing this keyboard will cause any functional damage either.

It has been a while since we last toured a mechanical keyboard from CMStorm, but here we are again in the QuickFire series that originally took us from rubber dome keys into Cherry MX green switches in the Trigger. The Trigger was so nice, and so tough, that after three years of solid use, and a second set of key caps, the Trigger is still working great for our team. I have passed the Trigger along to another team member, and the reason I did so is that the full lifespan of clicks is nearly used up, and while everything remains completely functional, the springs have softened, and feel more like blue switches. Also, with so many new products arriving, I have made the move to TKL boards, but did not have the heart to toss the Trigger in the bin. After all of that time, CMStorm mechanical keyboards have found their way into a special place in our hearts.

Speaking of Ten Key Less (TKL) keyboards, we are here today to see one of the latest TLK keyboards from CMStorm and their QuickFire series, the Rapid-i. Of course, that means we lose the number pad, but we also lose the need for drivers in this instance as well. That does not completely take away from the Rapid-i and its optional functionality either. There are still some very cool lighting modes, you can adjust the repeat rate, there are profiles for lighting and key assignment, and there is a set of multi-media keys as well. There are a few other nice features to this latest design, and if you are in the market for a TKL, then the CMStorm QuickFire Rapid-i is a serious contender for your hard earned money.

TweakTown image cmstorm_quickfire_rapid_i_tkl_mechanical_gaming_keyboard_review
Since the provided chart shows there are three models, we will start there. The Rapid-i comes with your choice of reds, blues, or browns, but no matter which switch you choose, all versions of the keyboard are backlit with white LEDs. Speaking of the LEDs, you can turn them off, or light the entire board in five stages of brightness. Taking it one step further, there are lighting modes as well. One such mode lights the WASD and arrow keys. Another mode will light as you press a key, and yet another will leave keys illuminated for a few seconds after use, and disappear in the order you pressed them. There is also a mode that will light the entire row and column of the key pressed, and, of course, there is the fully lit mode.

Back on the chart, following the LED information, we see discussion of the USB 2.0 connection, which is on a removable braided cable that is 1.8 meters long, and uses a Micro-USB connection in the back of this keyboard. We also see this keyboard is set full time to NKRO support with a 1ms polling rate. The key caps are made of ABS plastic, and have a black coating on them that offers a bit of grip. We see there is 128KB of onboard memory for profiles of lighting schemes and button reassignments in the M-keys. We also see mention of the F-keys for the lighting and repeat rate settings, and even the multimedia keys.

The last bits in the chart show us the dimensions of the Rapid-I; this TKL is less than fifteen inches wide. The Rapid-I weighs 932 grams, features a two-year warranty, and comes with a key puller.

There is still one surprise yet to disclose. As we shopped around for the version of the Rapid-i with the blue Cherry MX switches, we saw listings at $149.99. This made us double take, and we had to double check that this was the correct pricing, and with Newegg.com, Amazon.com, and a few others all in agreement, this is indeed one of the priciest TKL keyboards we have seen in a while. That is not to say that it's not worth the price, but with a price this lofty, CMStorm had better be on their toes with the QuickFire Rapid-i, and be able to prove to us the worth of this latest design in mechanical keyboards.

PRICING: You can find the CMStorm QuickFire Rapid-i for sale below. The prices listed are valid at the time of writing, but can change at any time. Click the link to see the very latest pricing for the best deal.
