Far Cry 4 PC Patch 1.6.0 Introduces Major Save Glitch
It would seem that the latest patch for the PC version of Far Cry 4 introduces a major save glitch. Shacknews has the complete rundown, including word from the developer on a fix.

Users on both the Far Cry 4 forums and our own Chatty community have observed that the crash occurs when your character is at Karma level 8. Upon reaching this level, autosave will not function and attempting to save manually will lead to a freeze.

DDoS Attacks Ruined Christmas For Millions Of Gamers
And hackers like this (and I use the term loosely) wonder why people hate them.

Millions of people could not use their games consoles for a second day as disruption on the Xbox Live and Sony Playstation networks continued after an apparent cyber-attack. A group calling itself Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for bringing down both networks on Christmas Eve, which could have affected nearly 160 million gamers.

Eye Oscillations and Framerate
Blue's News found an interesting article on oscillations and framerate that should spark a lively discussion this morning.

Humans can see frame rates greater than 24fps (although plenty of people will argue that they can't on the internet). Once you've accepted that fact, the next question is why do movies at 48fps look "videoy", and why do movies at 24fps look "dreamy" and "cinematic". Why are games more realistic at 60Hz than 30Hz?

Experts: FCC Will Adopt Net Neutrality Rules In Early 2015
Experts are saying that the FCC may adopt net neutrality rules next year. The question is, will they be meaningful rules that actually do something?

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission will adopt net neutrality rules in early 2015, maybe as soon as February, several observers believe, but few people want to predict what those rules will look like.

The 20 Best Games Of 2014
Ars Technica has published a list of the 20 Best Games Of 2014.

A number of highly anticipated AAA blockbusters ended up letting down both critics and many players with horrible narratives (Watch Dogs), broken design (Assassin's Creed: Unity), too-punishing difficulty (Alien: Isolation), or underwhelming repetitiveness (Destiny). A lot of the best games of the year actually came out in some form in previous years (Hearthstone, The Last of Us Remastered, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Grand Theft Auto V's re-release) and thus didn't feel like they belonged on a list highlighting what was truly new in 2014.

Facebook Facing Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Message Scanning
Facebook scanning the contents of your private messages? How can this be? It's totally unlike them to do something like that.

The lawsuit, filed in 2013, alleged that Facebook scanned the content of private messages sent between users for links to websites and would then count any links in a tally of "likes" of the pages. Those "likes" were then used to compile user profiles, which were then used for delivering targeted advertising to its users, the lawsuit said. The complaint alleged that the scanning of the private messages violated the federal and California state law.

The Interview Is A Hit With Pirates
This is why we can't have nice things.

The unexpected release of The Interview is making headlines around the world, but for now only people inside the U.S. can see the film. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 200,000 people have already circumvented this restriction by turning to torrent sites where the film appeared just an hour after its official release.

Apple, Microsoft, Sony Sell Smartphone Patents For $900M
I'm confused, didn't these guys pay $4.5 billion for all these patents two years ago?

"Today's announcement is good news for our industry as it demonstrates our patent system working to promote innovation," said Erich Andersen, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Microsoft. "We joined Rockstar to ensure that both Microsoft and our industry would have broad access to the Nortel patent portfolio, and we're pleased to have accomplished that goal through this sale and our valuable license to the patents being sold."
