Government Criticizes Cable Companies For Cashing In On Data Caps
Does anyone think big cable companies give a crap about the government criticizing them?
A growing number of cable companies are implementing data caps (sorry — "data thresholds"), which put limits on how much data a subscriber could use before facing penalties ranging from warning messages to throttled speeds to overage fees. A new report from the federal Government Accountability Office says that lack of competition in the broadband market could result in these caps being implemented with no one benefiting other than cable companies' bottom lines.

Sony Hack Exposed Budgets, Layoffs, Scripts, And 3,800 SS Numbers
I guess the Sony Pictures hack was way bigger than first thought. In addition to the leaked movies, scripts, budgets and almost four thousand social security numbers were compromised.
The document, which listed the names, titles, and salaries of more than 6,000 Sony Pictures employees including senior executives (and may have revealed a gender pay discrepancy), appears to be part of an enormous data breach that hit the studio last week, forcing them to shutter computer systems, move employees to paper and pencils, and call in the FBI and private security researchers to investigate the hack.

The reason the tax-vague internet is back in the headlines is a concerted effort by small business lobbying groups and the bill's sponsors to get it attached to legislation almost sure to be passed in this lame-duck December –- an extension of the ban on state and local taxes on your actual internet service as billed to you by your ISP. Windows XP's usage share dropped 3.61 points in November. Windows 7 and 8.x both gained 3.19 and 1.85 points, respectively. At this pace, Windows 8.x will pass Windows Vista's highest ever market share—the 19.06 percent it had just before Windows 7 was released in October 2009—next month.
