Google Earth API Set to Retire Late Next Year
The once very popular Google Earth is set to retire on December 12th 2015. Usage of Google Earth has fallen off over the past year and even Google's own Chrome Browser will drop support for the needed interface plugin.
Therefore, after careful consideration, we have decided to retire the Google Earth API. Per our deprecation policy, the API will be supported until one year from today and will be turned off on December 12, 2015.

Leaked Windows 10 Build 9901 Shows New Details
Microsoft is planning a big news conference to release the new features of the upcoming Windows 10. If the leaks keep on rolling out, we may know the entire package of changes and additions before the January 21st Dog and Pony Show. Check out the screenshots of Build 9901, which just leaked out today.
The settings button has also been removed from the Charms Bar, demonstrating that Microsoft is clearly focusing on improving access to settings with Windows 10.

Amazon UK Sellers Hit by Nightmare Before Christmas
Amazon UK suffered from a devastating glitch last night that listed prices incorrectly for over an hour. The glitch was with RepriceExpress software that keeps Amazon's prices the lowest, that somehow experienced a meltdown and listed expensive products as low as a penny. The glitch was reported to Amazon by one of its main competitors.
"We got a call from a competitor to say 'do you realize all your listings at a penny?' By the end of the hour, we had 1,600 orders," he said. "People were buying 10, 50, 100 copies of everything. It is £50,000, £60,000, £100,000 of stock; we can't even work it out."

NASA to Be Overfunded in 2015
Well, here's something you don't see much of these days; NASA is not only getting their entire budget approved, but will receive an additional $500 Million extra for earmarked projects that wasn't requested. Hell must have finally frozen over.
This budget isn't final yet the US Senate is set to vote on it in the next few days, but it's expected to pass. Failing to do so would result in a government shutdown, which no one is too keen on right now.

FCC to Require Faster Speeds for Broadband Subsidies
Federal subsidies are going to be just a bit harder for broadband providers to come by unless the companies meet the newly adopted standard of 10Mbps download rather than its current rate of 4Mbps.
Broadband providers AT&T and Verizon had opposed the speed increase, and one of the FCC's Republican commissioners questioned whether the new speed requirement could limit deployment.

Netflix and Amazon Score Multiple Golden Globe Nominations
It still a strange feeling to see two unrelated companies that started life on the Internet as a book seller and mail order movie rental company going head to head for Golden Globe Awards for original content. As far as the nominations go, Amazon scored two nominations and Netflix had seven.
Netflix is on fire, also having recently received five nominations for the SAG Awards for both HOC and OITNB, along with three nominations each for the WGA and PGA Awards, and eight NAACP Image Award nominations.

Canadian Pirates to Get Notices from ISPs in January
Our chilly brethren of the Great White are about to have a change in the way illegal downloaders are notified by their ISP's in January. Once an illegal download is discovered, the ISP is duty-bound to send out a notice to the customer that their IP address has been identified. The new law will hopefully serve as a deterrent to illegal downloading once an official notification has been made and the IP address logged.
In January the system will change and become mandatory as the Copyright Modernization Act will take effect.

Facebook to Debut Own Search Tool on Monday
Facebook has been steadily improving its own search engine for a while now and lately has been dropping some major hints about the service. I guess Facebook felt it was about time for the other shoe to drop and that shoe was Bing Search. A report from Reuters has Facebook dropping Bing in favor of the in-house Facebook Search with the official announcement coming on Monday.
Facebook was using Bing to produce search results as its in-house search engine, allowing Facebook users to look for more information about their friends. Selecting Bing as a partner was also a way for Facebook to keep rival Google's search engine away from the social network.

Computer Glitch Brings London's Airports to a Standstill
If you haven't heard, all flights in or out of London's airports were cancelled for hours yesterday causing a ripple effect that went all around the globe. Human error or bad weather are the first things that come to mind, but in this case, you can blame technology.
As for the root cause of the glitch, a post on the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation website suggested that a faulty server was to blame for the system going down.
