Portland Sues Uber For Operating Illegal, Unregulated Service
Is there anyone else out there that would like to ban or sue Uber today? Come on, the day isn't over yet, someone out there surely wants to file a lawsuit / ban the company.
"If Uber thinks there should be no maximum price on what they charge Portlanders, they should make their case to the Portland City Council," Novick said. "If Uber thinks taxi companies shouldn't have to serve people with disabilities, they should make their case. If Uber thinks taxis should not have to have proper insurance in case of a crash, they should tell us why we should allow that."

Facebook Wants To Use AI To Prevents You From Uploading Embarrassing Pics
Something like this would seriously take all the fun out of Facebook.
But Yann LeCun aims to stop such unbridled behavioror at least warn people when they're about to do something they might regret. He wants to build a kind of Facebook digital assistant that will, say, recognize when you're uploading an embarrassingly candid photo of your late-night antics. In a virtual way, he explains, this assistant would tap you on the shoulder and say: "Uh, this is being posted publicly. Are you sure you want your boss and your mother to see this?"

Cooler Master NovaTouch TKL Keyboard
The review editors at Neoseeker took the Cooler Master NovaTouch TKL keyboard around the block a few times to see what it is made of.
What makes the Topre switch distinct is that there is no physical contact to actuate the switch, rather it is the capacitive change in the electrostatic layer as the switch is depressed that is sensed by the circuit board; when this change meets a certain criteria, a signal is sent to the computer.

Desktop Computers Are The Best Place For Virtual Assistants
Ugh, can we please just skip the whole virtual assistant fad and get straight to the computers in Iron Man or the Minority Report?
Part of what might be holding the intelligent assistant back could be its close ties to the mobile platform. Right now, you may have Siri or Cortana at your beck and call wherever you take your smartphone, but there are a few drawbacks that prevent the virtual assistant from reaching its true potential.

Hey, has anyone asked the FBI if their agency was involved in the attack? You never know, they could be helping with the investigation just to throw everyone off their trail.

Supreme Court Rules No Pay For Security Screening
It looks as though the Supreme Court has sided with Amazon. The high court ruled that the online retailer does not have to pay wages for the time workers spend in line for security screenings.
On a 9-0 vote, the court decided that employees of Integrity Staffing Solutions facilities in Nevada, where merchandise is processed and shipped, cannot claim compensation for the time they spend going through security screening - up to half an hour a day - aimed at protecting against theft.

Mountain-Sized Asteroid Heading Our Way
I don't want to alarm anyone but WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!! Somebody call Bruce Willis, we might need a crew that can drill to 800ft.
A Russian astrophysicist says his team has located a huge, mountain-sized asteroid whose orbit crosses the Earth's every three years. Even though experts say the giant object, known as 2014 UR116, poses no immediate threat of collision, its unexpected discovery underscores how little is still known about asteroids and their unpredictable orbits.

Uber Ordered To Cease Operations In Spain
The list of cities, states and countries that have banned Uber is growing.
The injunction is a result of a complaint from the Madrid Taxi Association, and it forces Uber to cease operations in the country immediately; a statement from the Madrid court announcing the injunction points out that Uber didn't even get to defend itself, and cites Uber's business license being from Delaware (a tax haven where many companies file, despite not being based there) as the reason.

The Fight To Release Steve Jobs Deposition Video
Aside from morbid curiosity, I don't understand why everyone wants this video. I mean, do we really need to see Jobs giving his deposition? What he said is a matter of public record now.
The plaintiff's lawyers in the case were asked by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, on Apple's request, to treat the video as "regular testimony," meaning it can be viewed and reported by those attending court but cannot be shown elsewhere. Judge Rogers did not "seal" the evidence, however, leaving open the possibility it may be made available at a later date.
