MPAA Concerned Pirates Are Being Exposed To Malware
Dear Internet Pirate Person,
The reason we fine you $25,000 per movie is because we are worried about crooks getting a hold of your bank account...before we do.
Thanks,
Your Friends at the MPAA
"It is important to note that websites that traffic in infringing movies, television shows, and other copyrighted content do not harm only the rights holder. Malicious software or malware, which puts Internet users at risk of identity theft, fraud, and other ills, is increasingly becoming a source of revenue for pirate sites," the lobbying group told (PDF) US trade officials on Monday in its latest report about global "notorious markets" for illegal content.

FTC Sues AT&T For Limiting Unlimited-Data Customers
This certainly has been a long time coming. Aside from the part where AT&T will settle without admitting guilt, are we taking bets on the what the actual settlement will be?
The Federal Trade Commission filed a federal court complaint against AT&T Mobility, LLC, charging that the company has misled millions of its smartphone customers by charging them for "unlimited" data plans while reducing their data speeds, in some cases by nearly 90 percent. The FTC's complaint alleges that the company failed to adequately disclose to its customers on unlimited data plans that, if they reach a certain amount of data use in a given billing cycle, AT&T reduces or "throttles" their data speeds to the point that many common mobile phone applications like web browsing, GPS navigation and watching streaming video become difficult or nearly impossible to use.

FBI Created Fake Web Page To Nab Bomb-Threat Suspect
Not only did the FBI make a fake web page to catch a bomb-threat suspect, they made the fake page look like the Seattle Times. For the full story, here's a link to the real Seattle Times website (trust us).
The FBI in Seattle created a fake news story on a bogus Seattle Times web page to plant software in the computer of a suspect in a series of bomb threats to Lacey's Timberline High School in 2007, according to documents obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) in San Francisco.

Mind Blowing Statistics On Men and Women Gamers
I know this is going to be hard to believe but a recent study found that...wait for it...wait for it...men play first person shooters while women prefer HayDay and Candy Crush. Whoa.
Men and women enjoy video games, but some genres tend to attract one gender over the other, SuperData Research finds in a 2014 US study provided to Joystiq. Women compose 57.8 percent of the mobile market, 53.6 percent of the RPG market and 50.2 percent of the PC market (including social games), the report says. The study finds that men make up 66 percent of MMO players, 66 percent of FPS players and 63 percent of digital console players.

YouTube CEO Confirms Music Subscription Service Is Coming Soon
I could swear that one of the biggest attractions of YouTube, especially for teens, is that you can listen to music for free. Who is going to pay to listen to music on YouTube?
In an interview at Code/Mobile, the executive said that her team was indeed "working on it" and that this is a near-term goal. While she didn't get into specifics on the program, which may or may not be called Music Key (according to rumors, that is), she stated that one of the obstacles is figuring out "how to give people options" -- likely a way of saying that YouTube is still working out the pricing tiers and what features would be available for each individual plan.

Ex-PlayStation Boss: Xbox On The Right Path
Am I the only one that was surprised that Microsoft or Nintendo didn't hire Jack Tretton after he quit Sony over a salary dispute?
As for Microsoft, he said the company has come around to what customers want after flubbing the device's launch with a high price tag ($499 when it launched, compared to $399 for the PS4) and unpopular policies around sharing and reselling used games. Microsoft reversed its unpopular policies and introduced a $399 version of its console in June to more directly compete with the PS4 on price, and it has instituted various promotions to drive the price even lower.
