Internet Explorer 12 Is a Blend of Chrome and Firefox
The next edition of Microsoft's flagship browser is under construction and will be introduced alongside of Windows 9/Threshold next year. What has been shown so far in previews, IE 12 looks to be some sort of cross between Chrome and Firefox. When you're number one, you can afford to borrow from numbers two and three.
For starters, it's flat, and looks like a cross between Chrome and Firefox. The tabs for each webpage are rectangles at the top and start on the far left of the window. In IE11, the URL bar is on the same horizontal plane as the tabs, in IE12 (or whatever they call the next version) the tabs are on top of the URL bar.

Apple Gets a Failing Grade for Canadian Geography
Oh Apple, when are you going to give up on the notion that anyone at your company can read a map, much less draw one out for consumer use. It's bad enough that you had motorists driving off cliffs on roads that didn't exist, but now you've gone and insulted the proud people of the Great White North. (which by the way, is called Canada and located just north of the United States)
The latest snafu echoes the launch of Apple Maps, which replaced Google Maps as the default mapping application in 2012 to a chorus of complaints over errors and omissions.

Elon Musk: SpaceX Wants To Build a City on Mars
The idea of building a city on Mars may seem to be a farfetched concept, but so did starting a space program from scratch or building a brand new type of electric automobile, but Elon Musk has a way of accomplishing the impossible. Musk refers to the Red Planet as a serious fixer upper.
Earlier this year, he told Henry Blodget that his plan involves taking a large number of people and a lot of cargo to Mars. He then wants to work on terraforming the planet to make it more habitable, to make it more like earth over time.

Microsoft to Phase Out the 'Nokia' and 'Windows Phone' Brand Names
Microsoft will soon drop the Nokia brand name all together and rename Windows Phone to simply 'Windows', which will of course never be confused with the operating system.
None of these moves comes as a surprise, but if true it, does mean the official end of the Nokia name being associated with mobile hardware, and the end of an era.

All-Electric Formula E Racing Series Debuts This Weekend
The revolutionary Formula E racing series could be billed as the quietest race ever held since the last running of the Soapbox Derby. The very first all-electric global racing series begins this weekend in Beijing and is attracting drivers from Indy, Formula 1 and NASCAR to the competition.
Formula E aims to be different not only because of its focus on the proliferation of electric vehicles, but also with its efforts to attract a younger, new-to-racing fan base.

HBO Considers Selling Direct To Better Combat Netflix
There may be a change in policy over at the HBO corporate offices in the making. Nothing definite, but it sure sounds like Jeff Bewkes, CEO of Time Warner, is softening the stance of offering HBO as a standalone Go App and selling direct to customers without subscribing to a cable channel.
Bewkes didn't make any announcements, but he certainly sounded more sanguine about the possibility than he has before. Cord cutters have reason for hope; cable operators have much to fret about.

Earth Bombarded by Twin Solar Flares
Even though we are going through a huge geomagnetic storm, there is no danger at all that the sky is falling and only minimal interruptions will be noticed in some low-orbiting satellites. However, if you live in the far north and far south of the globe, the auroras will be particularly beautiful during this time.
The Sun has had bigger flares this year as it approaches the maximum point of activity on its 11-year cycle, but AR2158 was pointing pretty much straight at Earth, so will have greater effect.

EA to Push NBA Live 15 Back Three Weeks
EA will not be launching NBA Live 15 on October 28th as planned, but will push the date back three weeks. Reason being given is the development team needs to do a little last minute polishing, but it looks more like EA wasn't too keen on going head to head with the release of Visual Concept's NBA 2K15.
The news of a delay on a NBA Live really isn't that surprising and the game has been plagued with problems for years.

Twitch Chat Malware is Emptying Gamers' Steam Accounts
If you have a Twitch account and you use the chat feature, beware of things that look too good to be true, simply because they usually are. It's the old bait and switch, (or in this case, bait and Twitch) to separate you from any holdings you may have amassed in your Steam account.
If users click the link, they'll be infected with the malware, which logs into the gaming platform Steam and takes control of the target's account. From there, the program empties the target's wallet and sells off any valuable items he may have bought or acquired through the service.

RadioShack Says Company May File for Bankruptcy
Alas, poor RadioShack, we knew ye well. It's been coming for the past ten quarters and is not looking good for the venerable home to electronic enthusiasts and hobbyists, dating all the way back to its heyday the 60's and 70's. Unable to keep pace with the more trendy companies like Best Buy, RadioShack is now facing bankruptcy protection.
I don't think that the chances are great that RadioShack survives, Tawil said, adding that the company's credit default swaps were trading higher, pointing to market expectations of a near-term debt default.

SanDisk's Mind-Boggling New 512GB SD Card
SanDisk announced this week the company will be launching a new high capacity SD card. The high capacity description doesn't exactly do justice to the 512GB memory card, but the price sure does. Prepare to spend big bucks for the privilege of owning the world's highest capacity SD card.
The new Extreme Pro SD card features write speeds of up to 90 MB/s (megabytes per second), UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) recording speed to accommodate 4K video, and transfer speeds up to 95 MB/s. Not too shabby.
