Gaming Not The Most Important Thing In My Life
This guy says that gaming is not the most important thing in life. Duh, everyone knows that. Building the perfect computer to play those games is the most important thing in life.

Gaming isn't the most important thing in my life. When someone tells me that gaming is their one passion, the most important thing they do and something that informs who they are as a person? I want to help them find more balance. I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore by most litmus tests, and that's OK. It makes me better at my job.

Windows 'Threshold' Tech Preview Coming Late September?
ZDNet, citing anonymous industry sources, claims that Microsoft will be launching a Windows 'Threshold' tech preview in late September.

Microsoft is aiming to deliver a "technology preview" of its Windows "Threshold" operating system by late September or early October, according to multiple sources of mine who asked not to be named. And in a move that signals where Microsoft is heading on the "servicability" front, those who install the tech preview will need to agree to have subsequent monthly updates to it pushed to them automatically, sources added.

"Most Downloaded" Interactive Map Debunked
According to the folks at TorrentFreak, that interactive piracy map we posted a link to yesterday is full of baloney.

To our surprise, the maps in question don't represent the most-downloaded titles. Instead, they appear to reveal for which shows the download numbers differ the most when compared to the national average. This is completely unrelated to which movie, TV-show or game was downloaded the most.

How Not to Address Skeptics of Your Kickstarter Game
I was starting to worry a little bit over the lack of Kickstarter drama lately. Thankfully this popped up!

But if you're contemplating backing a Kickstarter, due diligence means looking for reasons not to back it. Find all the flaws you can. Question everything. Consider all the downsides. If it still looks like a solid investment once you've chipped away at the proposal from every angle, go for it.

Total Cost Of Publishing One Indie Game: $50K
Honestly, I had no idea that it was this expensive to put out an indie game.

Even cheap titles often take thousands if not tens of thousands of person-hours to get through development and publication. "Runner2 cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $700,000 to develop. Around 12% of that went into publication, localization and QA. Our publication costs were a little higher, but that's pretty close to normal." Tyrone's figures for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth were pretty close at 500,000 and 10%, but those aren't quite final.

Former Xbox Program Manager: 'Sorry For All The Ads'
If you want someone to blame for ads on the Xbox 360, this guy is stepping up to take credit / blame.

As the 360 tiptoes toward its tenth anniversary, Allen Murray, a former Xbox programmer, used his own 10-year mark in the games industry to get something off his chest. Banner ads are his fault, he said, and they came after he argued with coworkers who actually didn't want them on Xbox 360.

How NVIDIA Will Be Going Big At Gamescom
The world's biggest gaming show is bigger than ever. Gamescom's organizers estimate the show will draw more than 375,000 this year. That's well over the 350,000 who trekked to Cologne, Germany for last year's show. And our booth is right in the middle of the madness. Our new SHIELD Tablet — which goes on sale August 15 in Europe — is the star of the show. Visitors to our booth can pick up a SHIELD and try it out for themselves. They'll be able to sample Android games such as "Trine 2," "Portal," "Z Steel Soldiers," "Chuck's Challenge 3D" and "FlyHunter." We'll also show off how SHIELD can stream games from NVIDIA GeForce GTX-equipped PCs with a demo of "The Crew," Ubisoft's upcoming multi-player racing game. Other highlights include the opportunity to play 2K's new sci-fi themed, co-op first-person shooter, "Evolve." PCs powered by dual GeForce GTX 780 Tis and paired with 4K G-SYNC monitors ensure an eye-popping gaming experience.
