John Romero's New Shooter Plans
John Romero is working on a new shooter? The avalanche of Daikatana jokes starts in 3...2...1. Head on over to Blue's for the rundown.

Here's how it went down: "I'm working on several games at once right now," John Romero said. "But [Brenda] had mentioned earlier that I'm working with a concept artist, and so I've got some cool imagery for the main character." Brenda Romero jumped in: "I'm concerned about how much you're going to say." "I haven't made a shooter since 2000. So I'm basically starting to work on another one," John Romero said. And the room. Went. Wild.

Tegra K1 "Denver" Will Be First 64-bit ARM Processor for Android
Our 32-bit Tegra K1 mobile processor has been racking up praise for bringing amazing performance and true console-quality graphics to the mobile space. It "handily beats every other ARM SoC" in GPU performance benchmarks, according to Anandtech. And "the GPU performance is what stands out with the Tegra K1, nothing else on the market today is really able to get even close," according to PC Perspective.

This new version of Tegra K1 pairs our 192-core Kepler architecture-based GPU with our own custom-designed, 64-bit, dual-core "Project Denver" CPU, which is fully ARMv8 architecture compatible. Further, Denver is fully pin compatible with the 32-bit Tegra K1 for ease of implementation and faster time to market. With its exceptional performance and superior energy efficiency, the 64-bit Tegra K1 is the world's first 64-bit ARM processor for Android, and completely outpaces other ARM-based mobile processors.

Denver also features new low latency power-state transitions, in addition to extensive power-gating and dynamic voltage and clock scaling based on workloads. Combining Dynamic Code Optimization, 7-way superscalar design and efficient power usage, Denver's performance will rival some mainstream PC-class CPUs at significantly reduced power consumption.

Google Backing An Undersea Cable Project
Google is jumping on board the FASTER undersea cable project. When the project is done (2016) the new cable will be capable of 60 terabits per second of bandwidth between the U.S. and Japan.

The internet is quickest when you have a direct connection to the sites you're trying to reach, but that's a daunting challenge in the Pacific -- undersea network cables can cost hundreds of millions of dollars. It's therefore good to hear that Google and a host of telecom giants (China Mobile, China Telecom, Global Transit, KDDI and SingTel) are backing FASTER, a $300 million fiber optic cable that runs between Japan and the US.

Complex Passwords Aren't That Much Safer
Just great, my awesome "1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvxyz!@#$%^&*()+" password isn't much better than my old password "123."

What this shows that a complex password isn't necessarily a secure password. As we've written before, password systems have a very annoying way of putting most of the hard work onto the shoulders of the users. You've got to mix up a jumble of numbers and letters (some in capitals, please) and special characters. Some passwords time-out after 90 days, forcing you to reset them. But that doesn't mean they're that much safer than simple passwords.

Google Adds 'Drunk Train' Feature To Google Maps
Google has finally added a drunk public transportation feature to Google Maps! Rumor has it that Google interns were tired of getting stranded in strange places after the clubs closed so they made this app. Okay, I made that last part up.

They were reluctant to call it that, but it's true: Google Maps will now tell you the latest possible time you can leave a club and still make it home. The "last" option was made available earlier this month on iOS and Android. It factors in walking time with subways, buses, and train times.
