BMW and Daimler Working on Wireless Charging for EVs
The next logical step for electric vehicles is being explored by two German auto manufacturers. BMW and Daimler are jointly developing a drive-over wireless charging system for electric vehicles. Maintenance is already simplicity personified on electric vehicles and removing the last vestige of manual power charging may be the added incentive to entice future buyers.

BMW and Daimler's charging tech works in the same way wireless cell phone chargers do, just on a larger scale. An alternating magnetic field transmits energy between two sets of coils: one mounted onto the car's parking area (usually a garage floor), and a secondary coil on the vehicle itself.

Scientists Develop Material So Dark That You Can't See It
Okay, the first question that pops into your mind is if it can't be seen, how do you find it and the other question is didn't the Weasley brothers already market this as Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder? The actual material absorbs almost all visual light and when viewed, by the human eye, it confuses the brain by the absence of light.

A British company has produced a "strange, alien" material so black that it absorbs all but 0.035 per cent of visual light, setting a new world record.

Nano-Pixels: Potential for Flexible, Low-Power, High-Res Screens
Like many important discoveries in the technology field, some are discovered quite by accident as is the case of an Oxford research team. While researching phase change materials, the team stumbled upon a nano-pixel high resolution display and promptly applied for a patent on the new technology. Now that's higher education at work.

"This makes them potentially useful for 'smart' glasses, foldable screens, windshield displays, and even synthetic retinas that mimic the abilities of photoreceptor cells in the human eye."

IBM Investing $3 Billion into New Computer Design
IBM is a very old technology company, but that fact doesn't stand in the way of forward thinking. IBM is investing $3 Billion dollars over the next five years to explore and develop computers that mimic human brain functions: a cognitive computer.

Silicon design has stalled and the ability to shrink chips is reaching its limit. IBM is looking at graphene, carbon nanotubes and other materials to replace silicon in computers, and will try to develop chips that can be scaled down to the atomic level.

SpaceX Gets A-OK from FAA to Build Spaceport
Getting into outer space might be easier than getting permission to build a privately-owned spaceport, but Elon Musk's SpaceX has passed the last hurdle from the federal government. Construction on the 56 acre spaceport near Brownsville, Texas will begin as soon as local licenses are approved.

The FAA's decision is a monumental step forward on the path to making the long-planned spaceport a reality. This is major win for SpaceX, since the proposed spaceport will allow the company to launch from private property, rather than from Air Force facilities it currently uses.

Cables? We don't need no stinkin' cables to be a cable company. The little startup company that could, just won't take the Supreme Court's decision laying down. Aereo has plans to file to become exactly what SCOTUS ruled that they were: a cable company.

Aereo's own future is clearly at stake — but if it succeeds, it could also herald a major disruption in the media and technology industries. The boundaries between web companies and television content, already crumbling, may be completely obliterated.
