Microsoft Hammers No-IP, Collateral Damage Includes 4M Domains
What is the old expression about using a bazooka to kill a house fly? I think that is a good way to summarize this situation.
Some folks in the security community are furious, saying Microsoft went too far and darkened too many legitimate sites that had nothing to do with distributing malware, (check out comment section on Krebs on Security). CSO's Steve Ragan pointed out, "Four million domains have been shutdown, despite the fact that Microsoft only wants 18,472 of them." Microsoft called that "temporary loss of service" to legitimate sites a "technical error" that has since been corrected.

Facebook: We 'Really Regret' Our Secret-Test Misfire
Facebook says it really regrets secretly using members as guinea pigs. Riiiiight.
"So we clearly communicated really badly about this, and that we really regret," Sandberg told the Indian television station NDTV while in New Delhi. "We do research in an ongoing way, in a very privacy-protected way, to improve our service, and this was done with that goal. I think we are in communication with regulators all over the world and this will be OK. And we will continue to make sure users understand that we care about their privacy. We care about their experience, and we want to do everything we can to give them the best experience we can."

I'm not sure how this is even possible but it seems that Asetek has been granted a patent on liquid GPU cooling.
"We continue to see increasing interest from GPU and graphics card manufacturers due to increased power use and demands for lower acoustics. Given this interest, it is possible that the GPU cooling business could rival our CPU cooling business in the coming years".

Lindsay Lohan Sues Rockstar Over GTA 5 Likeness
Hmmm, I haven't had any media attention lately. What should I do? Get arrested again? Drunk drive? Oh, I know....I'll sue Rockstar because I don't understand what satire is!
According to the suit, Lohan's virtual doppelganger mirrors the actresses struggles with the paparazzi, while also depicting her voice, image and personal style. Further, the suit points out that Rockstar included an in-game spoof of the famous Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, a hotel where Lohan herself lived for several months. Lacey Jonas is an "unequivocal" reference to Lohan, the suit claims, before asking for unspecified damages.

Stupid Bitcoin Criminals of the Day
I'm not saying these guys are the dumbest criminals ever, but using the postal service to mass mail extortion letters demanding bitcoin is pretty damn stupid.
Everyone loves pizza. Even e-criminals. A group of anonymous extortionists have targeted small, local pizza joints, threatening to post bad reviews on Yelp, file Better Business Bureau complaints, and even report fake violent crimes and drug activity on the premises. But they have given the pizza owners a chance to avoid this fate. The pizza owners have to hand over exactly one Bitcoin.

Just great, another one of these controversies has popped up.
This year's games for men are Dota 2, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, and Ultra Street Fighter IV. For women, the line-up is StarCraft II and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. The IeSF has been separating tournaments by gender for at least a year now, according to their website. Their reasoning? "The decision to divide male and female competitions was made in accordance with international sports authorities, as part of our effort to promote e-Sports as a legitimate sports."

Courts: Defacing Facebook And Physical Property Are The Same Thing
What do you guys think? Is defacing a Facebook page the same as vandalizing physical property?
Interestingly, the man wasn't charged with any kind of cybercrime, but under the Criminal Damage Act, which is usually the case when physical property is involved. In the US, the equivalent charge would be something along the lines of vandalism, and only time will tell whether this sets any future precedent or remains an isolated judgment.
