Leaked BIOS Enables Pentium Anniversary Edition OC on Some MSI H97 Boards
A set of leaked BIOS'es surfaced on the web, which apparently enable overclocking of Intel's Pentium Anniversary Edition unlocked dual-core chips, on three of MSI's motherboards based on Intel's H97 Express chipset (which is not supposed to support CPU overclocking). Among these motherboards are the H97M-G43, H97 Guard-Pro, and H97 PC-Mate. All three boards are apparently able to overclock the 3.20 GHz chip all the way up to 4.50 GHz, with a simple crank of the BClk multiplier up to 45.0x. Such a BIOS making it to the web is interesting, because the company released statements in the past, opposing overclocking on H87 and B85 chipset-based motherboards, when the likes of ASRock, ASUS, and Gigabyte released beta BIOSes to support it, before Intel cracked down on them. Given that MSI uses common PCB designs across some 8-series and 9-series chipset motherboards (eg: MS-7850), it will be interesting to see how MSI plugs the leak. For the time being, we've hosted the BIOSes for you, to use at your own risk.

(PR) Intel Raises Second-Quarter and Full-Year Revenue Expectations
As a result of stronger than expected demand for business PCs, Intel Corporation now expects second-quarter revenue to be $13.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million, as compared to the previous range of $13.0 billion, plus or minus $500 million. The company is forecasting the mid-point of the gross margin range to increase by 1 point to 64 percent, plus or minus a couple of percentage points, driven mostly by higher PC unit volume. R&D plus MG&A spending is expected to be approximately $4.9 billion, $100 million higher than the prior expectation of approximately $4.8 billion, driven largely by revenue- and profit-dependent items.
The tax rate for the second quarter is expected to be 28 percent as compared to the prior expectation of 27 percent due to higher profits in higher tax jurisdictions. The expectation for second-quarter depreciation remains unchanged.

Dean "Kreij" Kortenhoven, our dear friend, and one of TechPowerUp's most respected community members, moderators, and contributors; who not only contributed to TechPowerUp, but also held a key editorial position in our sister publication NextPowerUp, passed away yesterday (Wednesday, early morning Central European Summer Time, Tuesday evening, Wisconsin USA local time). He passed away peacefully, in the august company of his family. He was 54.
A true cyber-citizen, Dean made his presence online strongly felt, in each forum post, each slap on the wrist as a moderator, and each richly worded article he wrote for our publications, despite constraints from a crawly satellite ISDN connection, which he joked, rather than complained about. It goes to show that willpower beats infrastructure, in an age where we're constantly surrounding ourselves with increasingly powerful infrastructure, often without pausing to ask ourselves, if we're able to make the most of what we have by empowering it with our wisdom and willpower, before moving onto something more powerful out of the box.
Dean also contributed to the Jeep online special interest group, and often talked about the benefits of the frugal, effective engineering Jeeps offer, in comparison to modern SUVs. Before we spun off GeneralNonsense, our off-topic forum, into a full- blown forum website, we remember Dean making motivational posts to cheer up fellow users who faced personal tragedies, or who were plain stressed out and needed a release, even if that came from someone sitting thousands of miles away. It enforced his personal belief - which we strongly share - that behind every gamer, and online forum member, is a human being, with human achievements and shortfalls, and that if the Internet marked a breakthrough in human evolution, it was because people powered it, not just websites.
