Google Glass Explorer Program Now Available to the Public
Although a trial program was recently available for Google Glass that allowed potential buyers to try out the wearable technology for a small fee, potential consumers of the product have not been able to freely buy Google Glass until now. Google has just recently announced via Google+ that it is pushing the Google Glass Explorer program to the public. This means that any consumer can purchase the Google Glass Explorer edition for the asking price of $1,500, as long as the technology giant has them in stock.
While the offer is surely enticing to those who have been yearning to try out the wearable technology device, it is worth noting that the technology is in an early phase.

Flappy Bird Will Return Later This Year
When Flappy Bird first hit the App Store and Google Play, the number of downloads for the game were astonishing and its popularity grew at an alarming rate. In all, the game was downloaded around 50 million times before it was taken down by its creator, Dong Nguyen, for reportedly being too addictive in nature. Nguyen has just made a special remark about the future development of Flappy Bird however, stating that the game is set to debut once again later this year. More than likely, Flappy Bird will make a reappearance on the App Store and Google Play sometime in August. In order to make the game less addicting for users, Nguyen says that the next public release of Flappy Bird will be multiplayer.

Character Customization in The Sims 4 is Insanely Powerful
Creating a Sim has steadily evolved over the previous three iterations of The Sims franchise, and Maxis is poised to push it even further in The Sims 4. The new Create a Sim is not only insanely powerful – or is it powerfully insane? – but also extremely intuitive. The Sims 4 ditches the menus and sliders, and instead allows users to push, pull, and shape different areas of the body directly on the Sim. The studio seems to have taken what it accomplished with the Spore Creature Creator, and ran with it. It's essentially like modifying a character model in a 3D modeling program.

Giving Computers the Ability to Identify Actions in Videos
One technology that has been hitting a number of headlines over the past several years is natural language processing, as it allows us to interact with computers without the formal logic computers typically require. Researchers at MIT are looking to take that interaction beyond language by giving computers the ability to analyze and identify the actions it sees.
Activity recognition techniques have been developed before, but the MIT researchers have made great strides forward with it by bringing in some of the lessons learned from natural language processing. When parsing a sentence, a computer can identify its different parts and then work out their connections to understand what it is reading. Similarly actions can be divided into sub-activities, which a computer can watch for and connect together. It may start with a large number of hypotheses, but as it continues to observe the action, a computer can make an accurate guess about what it is seeing.
By applying this approach, the researchers were able to give the algorithm the ability to identify actions before they are completed, a fixed amount of memory usage, and linear scaling for execution time so that files ten times larger only take ten times longer to process. While this algorithm has any number of applications, the researchers foresee medical uses for it, such as watching physical therapy exercises, and reporting if they are not being done properly.

CD Projekt RED Unveils New Logos for the Studio and The Witcher 3
Polish developer CD Projekt RED has unveiled a brand new logo for the studio, along with a new logo for its upcoming title, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The studio is referring to its new logo as the "REDbird logo" and is representative of the "energy and passion for game-making the studio is known for." CD Projekt RED's Head of Studio, Adam Badowski, had the following to say about the new logo:
In addition to the new studio logo, CD Projekt RED has decided to change up the logo for The Witcher 3 as well. The new logo puts the titular Wild Hunt in its center and "casts the spotlight on the mask of one of its ominous leaders-general Eredin." I've included both the old and new logos below for comparison – the old ones first, and then all the new ones (black and white versions). We are rebels and rebels are free. Just like birds. The Northern Cardinal is what we see ourselves in the industry: intrepid, bold and confident; flying high and aiming even higher. The colour, cardinal RED, is something that connects it with another bird, a mythological creature close to our cultural roots and heritage–the Raróg, a small firebird believed to bring luck to people. RED stands for energy, the inner fire that drives us; it represents something very close to everyone here in the studio–the creativity and passion we harness from within ourselves to make the best RPGs in the world.

Closed Beta for En Masse Entertainment's Zombies Monsters Robots Launches May 27 with Six Maps
Last month, En Masse Entertainment announced that free-to-play, third-person shooter Zombies Monsters Robots would be entering Closed Beta in May. Now that May is upon us, an official date has been unveiled via a new trailer: May 27. The Closed Beta will launch with six maps, covering co-op, PvP, and campaign modes. Each map seems to be as overtly named as the game itself: Big Dam Heroes (Industrial Carnage), Shanghai Surprise (Dead By Dawn), Bullet Train (Deathmatch Derailed), Killville (Town Square Showdown), Hot Dam (Heavy Casualties), and Mercy Killing (That Looks Infected). Outside of Bullet Train, which is clearly PvP, it's hard to tell which mode is represented by each map; though it's possible they were listed in order, two at a time.

Better Thermoelectric Material Developed for Lower Temperatures
From computers and cars to power plants, a lot of energy can be lost as heat, which is why many are working on ways to capture and convert that heat into something useful. One way to achieve this is with thermoelectric material, which can heat directly to electricity. Researchers at the University of Houston have recently discovered a material that is more efficient than its competitor at temperatures between room temperature and 300 ºC, and it could be invaluable in many applications.
For many systems, waste heat can add up to temperatures as high as 1000 ºC, and from that down to 200 ºC, we have materials that work well and capturing and converting it. At the lower end and still lower though, the efficiency drops off. Since the 1950s bismuth telluride has been used for temperatures between room temperature and 250 ºC, and while it works, it does not work well. The material developed by the Houston researchers though works across the same range of temperatures, but is more efficient and improving as they work on it more. Thermoelectric materials that cover this lower range of temperatures are very much in demand.
Curiously, the material, made of magnesium, silver, and antimony is actually not new to thermoelectric applications and has been studied previously. What the researchers found is that by preparing it in a specific way, mixing the chemicals in a specific order and at certain times, impurities that impaired its performance would not form.
