Sony Halts Development of OLED TVs
While OLED televisions do provide fast response times and vividly clear pictures, Sony does not see a real demand for the technology at this time or in the foreseeable future. Due to such, as well as the growing demand surrounding 4K LCD televisions, Sony has decided to halt its commercial development of OLED televisions. Sony is noting that sales of 4K televisions could help it finally bring in positive revenue from the television business, something that the company has failed to do for the last 11 years. Globally, Sony plans to release eight 4K television models this year and quadruple sales during this fiscal year. The company is hoping that its brand appeal, overall dedication to the 4K television market, and decreased costs will help it achieve its goal of television market growth.

Firefox Announces Testing of New Tab Advertisements
Johnathan Nightingale, the Vice President of Firefox, has revealed that Mozilla will be experimenting with offering advertisements within tiles that are featured when new tabs are opened. According to Nightingale, the advertisements will be a mix of Firefox websites and other useful websites across the Internet. The intent is for new users of the Firefox Internet browser to receive recommendations of websites on fresh installs of the web browser, since Firefox would have no traffic history to build from. At this time, the experimentation of advertisements that are to be displayed within new tabs is only being applied to Firefox builds that are a part of the pre-release channel.
The testing does not provide any additional revenue for Mozilla, and sponsorship would be the next stage of the new tab offerings if the venture proves valuable for users.

ADATA Announces New Flash Memory Cards
ADATA has announced the XPG and Premier Pro series SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3) memory cards. The most noticeable improvement in the cards will be seen in speed when compared to the UHS-I U1 with write speeds increased by 750% and 500%, respectively. This translates to read and write speeds of 95MB/s and 85MB/s for the XPG and 95MB/s and 60MB/s for the Premier Pro. The continued expansion in media resolution has also resulted in increases in file sizes, leading to an increased desire for higher speeds to cut down on transfer times. The new cards are targeted at the ultra-high definition market where 4K and 2K resolutions are the norm. The XPG will be available in 64GB capacity and the Premier Pro will be available in 64GB and 128GB capacities.

Titanfall's Expedition DLC Arriving This Month; Gameplay Trailer Released
The first of three DLCs included in Titanfall's Season Pass will be arriving this month for PC and Xbox One, while Xbox 360 gamers will have to wait until June. Entitled Titanfall: Expedition, the DLC includes three new maps: Swampland, Runoff, and War Games. Runoff includes multiple elevations and long sight-lines, with clean, industrial upper levels, and dirty, concrete canals below. War Games takes place in an expanded training mission simulator, with themed areas, "glitching" textures, and long, transparent wall-running paths.

Beyond Self-Healing, Self-Regenerating Material Developed
We all know that stuff happens and our possessions get damaged one way or another. Repairing the damage may be too difficult or too costly to attempt, but for some systems and devices, the damage must be repaired. Researchers at the University of Illinois though have developed a means for plastics to repair themselves, even when they are missing a piece.
Self-healing materials have been developed before, but their healing abilities are limited to repair scratches and other small defects. If the material has a hole in it though, the healing mechanisms will not work for a number of reasons. Perhaps the most obvious is gravity, as the fluids that will harden to repair the material may bleed out before being useful. The Illinois researchers overcame that issue by selecting repair fluids that gel very quickly, similar to our blood's ability to clot. Before gravity has a chance to pull the fluids too far, they have already gelled and are strong enough to not leak, as more fluid is added. This allows holes to be filled, repairing what could otherwise be serious damage.
Eventually the researchers would like to see self-regenerating materials with the ability to not only repair themselves but actually replace themselves, similar to tissues and organs within our bodies. Even without that capability, these materials could prove very useful for many commercial applications, as you can no doubt imagine.

Is Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption Heading to PC?
NeoGAF member Lazaro made an interesting discovery when he was searching the Windows Compatibility Center website – Red Dead Redemption is listed as compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. Developed by Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption is a Western-themed, open-world, action-adventure game that released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Almost immediately after release, several gamers were hoping for a PC release; but four years later, and still nothing. Despite Rockstar saying there was no plans to bring it to PC because it would be too difficult to translate the code, there was a rumor awhile back that the game was indeed coming to PC with added DirectX 11 effects. So, is that finally coming to fruition?
According to the Windows Compatibility Center website, in order to have a game listed, a Partner must submit a game with the following qualifications:
- Be a representative of the software publisher or device manufacturer
- Know the current compatibility status with Windows 8, Windows RT and/or Windows 7 for the product you are submitting.
- Provide complete information we can verify (please use your corporate email address in the registration step).

New Hydrogel for Healing Bond Defects
In many ways, our bodies have a tremendous capability to heal themselves, but occasionally they do need help. Of course the catch with giving our bodies help is making sure it does not fail or ultimately hurt the body. Researchers at Rice University have recently developed a hydrogel that solves the problem of others, when it comes to guiding our bodies to repair damage to bones.
One of the ways a doctor can help our bodies heal is to provide a scaffold for our cells to grow on. The hydrogels that can be used to make scaffolds for bone tissues though have the issue of hardening and then shrinking, as they expel water. Over time the scaffold can be much too small and be of no use to the healing process. The Rice researchers have solved this by creating a hydrogel that will form links to keep it stable over the long term. These links are formed with phosphate ester bonds, which is important as they can be broken down by alkaline phosphatase, and that is a chemical bone tissue produces as it grows. As the bone grows on the scaffold, it will produce alkaline phosphatase that will trigger the scaffold to degrade away, and give the bone more room to grow.
By carefully controlling the hydrogel, the researchers suspect it should be possible to tune it to degrade at different rates, to match the rate different bones grow at. That effort though may be left to biotech companies, as the researchers are more interested in the specific mechanics and performance of the material.
