Friday night topic: Light bulbs? Yep, light bulbs
If it's possible to geek out over something and I come into contact with that thing, well, stuff happens.
Several years ago, compact fluorescent light bulbs had gotten to the place where they were an intriguing option for replacing traditional incandescent bulbs, and I kinda went overboard on them. I ...

Newest Thermaltake Urban case has dual doors
Mid-tower cases aren't breaking much new ground these days, especially outside the aesthetics department. Thermaltake's newly announced Urban T81 might just be an exception to that trend, though. It has not one, but two doors on its left side: one for the main system components and a second door for the storage bays. Thermaltake claims the design was "inspired by automotive 'suicide doors,'" which is probably not the wording I'd use in a press release, but... well, see for yourself:

The total system volume is only 16 liters, and the whole thing weighs just 17.2 lbs. It looks pretty good, too.

Fan-made Morrowind remake looks amazing
I have fond memories of Morrowind, the pre-prequel to Skyrim, but it looks a little dated these days—just as any 12-year-old game would. As Rock, Paper, Shotgun reports, a team of modders has taken it upon themselves to remake the game in the Skyrim engine. The mod is still a work in progress, but it already looks stunning.

Razer unveils homebrewed mechanical keyboard switches
At CES earlier this year, we heard whispers about the expiry of patents on Cherry's famous MX mechanical key switches—and about about the possibility of third-party derivatives hitting the market. There must have been some truth to it all. Earlier today, Razer announced its first homebrewed mechanical switches, and they look suspiciously like custom Cherry derivatives.

Watch Dogs rescheduled for May 27
Watch Dogs was one of the most anticipated games of 2013. Then, in October, it was delayed until spring 2014. Ubisoft said more time was required to polish and tune the title. The developer's work is almost complete, though. The new "story trailer" reveals that Watch Dogs has been rescheduled for a May 27 release.
The trailer looks pretty ...

Cooler Master's QuickFire Stealth mechanical keyboard reviewed
Mechanical keyboards come in all kinds of flavors these days. Just about every PC peripheral maker has one in its arsenal, and most offer multiple variants. Some are loaded with extras, while others offer a more basic approach. There are also numerous switch options, each one with noticeably different characteristics.
Despite this variety, most mechanical keyboards are slight variations on the same theme. The majority of them mirror the standard, 104-key U.S. layout that's been around since the early days of Windows. There's a numpad on the right and lettering on the tops of the keys. That's great, but it's also a little bit boring, which is why the Cooler Master QuickFire Stealth caught my eye. This compact contender ditches the numpad in favor of a tenkeyless design with space-saving and ergonomic benefits. It also trades traditional lettering for a uniquely stealthy approach.
So, yeah, ...

Radeon R7 265 becomes available at $149, promptly sells out
AMD announced the Radeon R7 265 in mid-February and said it should hit store shelves at the end of that month. Given the current supply crunch for Radeons caused by the cryptocurrency mining rush, we had to wonder whether the R7 265—which is basically the same thing as the Radeon HD 7850—would truly be available at its suggested list price of $149.
The answer is beginning to unfold. After several days more waiting than originally projected, ...

It's official: DirectX 12 to be unveiled at GDC
There wasn't much doubt that some sort of major update to DirectX was coming after those GDC session abstracts were posted, but now it's official. Asus' desktop Kabini boards come in micro and mini flavors
On Tuesday, AMD formally revealed that its low-power Kabini APU is heading to the desktop in socketed form. We actually got our first glimpse of desktop Kabini boards at CES earlier this year. Now that the platform is official, additional motherboards are coming out of the woodwork. The latest are Asus' AM1M-A and AM1I-A, which deploy Kabini's FS1b socket on microATX and Mini-ITX boards, respectively.
