Seasonic S12G-Series: S12G-550 Power Supply
In need of a high quality 550W power supply? I highly recommend reading our evaluation of the Seasonic S12G-Series: S12G-550. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Seasonic builds some of the best computer power supplies on the market. When do we ever get a power supply that is actually a better product than what it is marketed to be? Not often, but that is the case with the S12G-550 PSU. It is not terribly inexpensive, but it is a great value for your hard earned dollars.

Killing Net Neutrality Helps Underdogs Succeed
Killing net neutrality helps underdogs succeed? Why do I have a feeling you guys are going to have something to say about this?

We need to move away from the fear-mongering and exaggerations about threats to the internet as well as simplistic assumptions about how internet traffic moves. The real problems online are far more complex and less scary. And it's not about net neutrality, but about net capacity.

Anyone think this guy is going to be reimbursed for all the money he spent on lawyers?

As part of the settlement, the NSA agreed to write another letter to Zazzle acknowledging that Mr. McCall's images were intended as parody and "should not have been viewed as conveying the impression that the designs were approved, endorsed, or authorized by NSA," according to the agreement.

Scythe Ashura Shadow Heatsink
The fellas over at FrostyTech have the Scythe Ashura Shadow in-house for a little review action today.

The Scythe Ashura Shadow is a dark nickel plated version of the vanilla Ashura heatsink Scythe also has on the market. Structurally, there's no difference between the two coolers, aside from the cosmetic metal coating. The Ashura Shadow heatsink stands 162mm tall and has a footprint of 145x89mm so it should fit most motherboards without memory slot interference.

BioShock Developer Irrational Games Closing
Is it just me or does this story sound fishy to you guys too? Seriously, if the franchise is as successful as everyone says, why close the doors and put so many out of work?

We built Rapture and Columbia, the Von Braun and The Rickenbacker, the Freedom Fortress and some of the nastiest basements a SWAT team ever set foot into. We created Booker and Elizabeth, the Big Daddy and the Little Sister, MidWives and ManBot. In that time, Irrational has grown larger and more successful than we could have conceived when we began our three-person studio in a living room in Cambridge, MA. It's been the defining project of my professional life. Now Irrational Games is about to roll out the last DLC for BioShock Infinite and people are understandably asking: What's next?

Seventeen years is a long time to do any job, even the best one. And working with the incredible team at Irrational Games is indeed the best job I've ever had. While I'm deeply proud of what we've accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a different kind of game than we've done before. To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers. In many ways, it will be a return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience.

I am winding down Irrational Games as you know it. I'll be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two. That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There's no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.

Google Opening 200-Worker Office In San Francisco
Now that I think about it, that floating barge would have been a great place to put these new offices. It sure would make it harder for demonstrators to protest...unless they had life vests and rubber rafts.

According to Financial Times, the Web giant has reportedly leased a massive building in the area for employee office space. The 35,000-square-foot building is big enough to fit 200 workers and reportedly will be geared toward housing engineers who came with Google's recent acquisitions, such as Nest Labs, SlickLogin, and Boston Dynamics.

Gabe Newell Talks Valve, VAC, and Trust
A recent reddit post making various claims about Valve's VAC prompted Gabe Newell to weigh in on the subject. Here's a snippet from Gabe's post:

There are a number of kernel-level paid cheats that relate to this Reddit thread. Cheat developers have a problem in getting cheaters to actually pay them for all the obvious reasons, so they start creating DRM and anti-cheat code for their cheats. These cheats phone home to a DRM server that confirms that a cheater has actually paid to use the cheat.

VAC checked for the presence of these cheats. If they were detected VAC then checked to see which cheat DRM server was being contacted. This second check was done by looking for a partial match to those (non-web) cheat DRM servers in the DNS cache. If found, then hashes of the matching DNS entries were sent to the VAC servers. The match was double checked on our servers and then that client was marked for a future ban. Less than a tenth of one percent of clients triggered the second check. 570 cheaters are being banned as a result.
