Man, it's been a long week. So here I am, mailing in the deals post with another bulleted list.
And now, a little love for shoppers north of the border. NCIX's Action Packed Sale Event has the requisite SSD bargin: Adata's SX900 ...

Latest Haswell-powered Chromebook hits $200
Haswell-based Chromebooks just got a little cheaper. Acer has introduced a new model priced at only $200. The 11.6" system is nearly identical to the C720-2800 model Acer introduced last month. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two is the amount of system memory: the C720-2800 comes with 4GB, while this latest 2848 variant has 2GB.

AMD's FX family won't get a Steamroller update next year
If you were hoping the Kaveri APU's Steamroller CPU cores would make their way into AMD's FX processor lineup, I have some bad news. The company's latest roadmap (PDF) shows Piledriver-based FX processors persisting through 2014. The FX family could be updated after that, but it looks like no major changes are planned for next year.

Google, I love you, but you're bringing me down
I was listening to LCD Soundsystem the other day, and New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down somehow coalesced my feelings on Google's recent behavior. Dunno what happened there, but being well into a growler of Tofino Brewing's Hoppin Cretin IPA might have contributed. In any case, I'll take inspiration where I can get it.
Google, you're perfect, please don't change a thing.

If it weren't for you, we might have to use Bing.

Gmail captured my heart, and Android played a part.

If only I could, I would give you a ring.

AMD: Only some R9 cards will be bundled with BF4
I just got home from AMD's APU13 event with some kind of cold or flu or crazy mutant strep throat, so I'll keep this simple. You know how all Radeon R9-series cards were supposed to be bundled with Battlefield 4? Yeah, turns out that's not the case. Only some cards from some card vendors are meant to ship with the game—and judging by current listings at Newegg, BF4 bundles are few and far between.
Here's AMD's statement ...

Leaked slide teases next-gen Atom specs
AMD expects its upcoming Mullins APU to be "very competitive" with Intel's Bay Trail tablet SoC. The AMD chips are due in the first half of next year, but they may have to contend with more than just Bay Trail-T. Intel is working on a Cherry Trail-T successor that could debut as early as the third quarter of 2014. VR-Zone's Chinese site has posted a slide that highlights some of the differences between the two Atom generations. The information is unconfirmed, of course, but the specs don't look implausible.
According to the slide, Cherry Trail-T will retain the quad-core, quad-thread approach of its predecessor. The peak CPU Burst clock has apparently been bumped to 2.7GHz, a 300MHz increase over the Atom Z3770 Scott tested in September . The memory subsystem is getting a boost, as well. ...

Next-gen consoles are ''too limited'' for Oculus Rift VR headset
The Oculus Rift VR headset could usher in a revolution for the gaming industry. Developer kits have been out for a while, and the first production version is slated to arrive later next year. The VR headset won't work with next-gen consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, though. Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey told Tech Radar that the latest consoles are "too limited for what we want to do."
One of the problems is insufficient horsepower. Despite sporting fancy new SoCs, the latest Xbox and PlayStation can't run every new game at 1080p. Battlefield 4 , for example, is reportedly stuck at 720p on the Xbone and 900p on the PS4 ...

Asus challenges Chromecast with Miracast Dongle
Google's $35 Chromecast dongle is pretty neat. Plug it into your TV, and the thing will stream content from all kinds of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and even desktop PCs. Now, Asus has developed a similar product, complete with its own cheesy promo video:

Unlocked Moto G handset offers quad-core Snapdragon for $179
Well hello, Moto. Google-owned Motorola Mobility has introduced a budget handset that looks quite impressive considering the price. The Moto G starts at just $179 for the 8GB version, and bumping up to 16GB raises the price by only $20. Those are all-in prices, by the way; the Moto G will be sold sans contract. It has an unlocked SIM slot and and unlocked bootloader, too.
