AMD Responds to R9 290 Series Performance Variance
AMD has released a statement in regards to performance variances on the new R9 290 series. A driver update is pending.
A media outlet has uniquely reported instances of AMD Radeon R9 290X boards purchased in retail that have exhibited an uncharacteristic level of performance variance as compared to press samples issued by AMD. We're working to secure the board(s) in question for further analysis. Boards purchased by other media outlets have not exhibited similar characteristics that we're aware of. In the meantime, we've identified areas where variability can be minimized and are working on a driver update which will minimize this variance. We will provide an update shortly. -AMD

Tesla Stock Finally Disappoints
I guess it was about time for this to happen. It probably doesn't help to have Tesla's CEO say "the market is being very generous" when speaking about the company's stock valuation.
Not even promises of its first deliveries to the Chinese market suffice as a weaker-than-expected outlook following Tesla's third-quarter earnings leads to a speculator stampede for the exits.

AOL Cracks Down On Startup For Using Content It Gave Away
AOL: You know that content we gave away for free? Well, we're pissed now that you are using it.
That's the question posed in a simmering battle between media giant AOL and a three-person startup called Pro Populi, which had the audacity last month to launch apps for Google Glass and the iPhone that use AOL's CrunchBase database a huge storehouse of basic information about people and companies in the tech industry. In theory, the apps are perfectly legal: Since its 2007 launch the CrunchBase database has been published continuously under the Creative Commons CC-BY attribution license, which permits any use commercial or non-commercial provided the owner receives credit. In practice, though, AOL is very angry.

How to Launder Billions and Billions of Digital Dollars
Holy cow, that's a lot of digital dollars! Who knew there was such a thing as "cloud-based search warrants."
For example, a DOJ attorney signed up for an account with the name "Joe Bogus" with an address of "123 Main Street, Completely Made Up City, New York." Then, when sending LR credits between this entity and another DOJ account put things like "your share of the cashout," "for atm skimming," and "for the cocaine," into the memo field (where you'd put "Rent" on a check). Mr. Bogus did not have a difficult time completing transactions. Neither did users with names like "Russian Hackers" and "Hacker Account."

By the time you build your computer, the drivers are probably outdated, and the discs often come with other software that you probably don't want.
