Lenovo intros 8'' Win8.1 slate with Bay Trail inside
PC makers are announcing 8" Windows 8.1 tablets left and right. The latest one to hop on the bandwagon is Lenovo, whose new Miix2 slate couples an 8" IPS screen with one of Intel's new Bay Trail Atom processors for $299.
Now, don't get too excited: that IPS screen has a resolution of just 1280x800. Even with Windows' ClearType mojo smoothing out ...

Papa's got a brand-new, undead-proof European carryall
So iPhone 5S and 5C mania has died down (although someone needs to tell the entrepreneurs on eBay), OS X Mavericks has yet to go gold master, and the new iPads won't be trotted out in all their magical unicorn glory for at least a couple of weeks yet. Obviously, only one thing will fill this gaping, Mac-news gap: luggage.
Boy ...

Updated: Game bundles coming to new Radeon cards
Bundled games are conspicuously absent from the R7 and R9 Radeon cards AMD introduced last week. There is a special edition of the upcoming R9 290X that includes Battlefield 4, but that's it—for now, anyway. According to Fudzilla, AMD's Never Settle game bundle program will be expanded to include the new Radeons.
Although Fudzilla doesn't have any details on what the bundles will entail, it says AMD VP of sales Roy Taylor provided ...

PC shipments tanked again last quarter, but Intel doesn't seem to have suffered too terribly. Report: Broadwell to feature audio DSP for low-power playback, speech recognition
PC audio is getting interesting again. We already know that AMD has integrated DSP hardware into some of its latest Radeons. Now, it looks like Intel is doing something similar with its next-gen platform hub. According to slides posted by VR-Zone, the chipset accompanying Intel's 14-nm Broadwell processors will have an integrated DSP charged with powering Smart Sound Technology.
Unlike AMD's TrueAudio tech, which is designed to improve positional audio and surround-sound virtualization for games, Intel's approach seems focused on lowering power consumption and improving speech ...

Microsoft: Mantle won't work on the Xbox One
So,
this is interesting. At its GPU14 event in Hawaii last month, AMD said
that Mantle, its new low-level graphics API, would be "cross-platform,
but Windows first." We kind of figured the cross-platform part meant
Mantle would work on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After all, the
graphics silicon in both systems is based on the same GCN architecture
as the latest Radeons.Well, we figured wrong. Microsoft has updated its Windows App Builder blog with some news about Direct3D, and ...
