Microsoft Announces ID@Xbox for Indie Developers
Microsoft announced today at Gamescom the company would be supporting independent game publishers through a new program called ID@Xbox which will give Indie developers the access to needed tools for publishing.

"In talking with scores of independent developers over the past year, it's clear they are ready for new ways to develop and reach customers, so, we're acting to meet the needs of the development community and in turn, enable a proliferation of games for Xbox fans."

Apple Patents 3D Gesture Control Via Hover-Based Input
Apple has just received a patent for 3D gesture control for maneuvering 3D objects above the screen on iPads and other similar devices.

Other uses include using 3D gestures to sculpt with virtual clay-like materials, and the ability to use gestures to change things like object shadows, brightness textures and more.

Court: IP Masking Violates Computer Fraud Act
A ruling handed down by a Northern California District Court Judge ruled that masking your IP to gain entrance to blocked web sites violated the terms of the 1984 CFAA law. Thanks to TheWeazmeister for the heads up.

3taps asked the court to "hold that an owner of a publicly accessible website has no power to revoke the authorization of a specific user to access that website" and argued that criminalizing its activity under the CFAA would create a slippery slope that could harm ordinary Internet users and allow Web companies to use anti-competitive practices.

Floating through the PlayStation 4 user interface, the company showed how seamless it would be to see online games in progress before joining up in an instant. It's expected that this online gameplay system will be launched at the same time as the PlayStation 4 itself.

Scan the Entire Internet in an Hour or Less
Now you can scan the entire Internet and see where the end really is. A research team at the University of Michigan have developed ZMap that can do the job quick as a wink and showed off their handiwork at the Usenix security conference on Friday.

The lower overhead of this approach allows ZMap to send out packets more than 1,000 times faster than Nmap.

Google: We Are Above UK Privacy Laws
Google has basically informed the British government this week that they have no jurisdiction over the multinational company. The defiant stance from Google stems from a lawsuit concerning privacy matters over tracking cookies.

In response to the campaign group's allegations, the search engine giant says in legal filings that as an American firm, British privacy laws do not apply, and so the matter cannot be brought to a U.K. court.

Skype is launching in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, Canada, and Brazil today, and will continue to roll out the integration to users in other countries "in the near future."
