PS3 Update Planned to Fix v4.45 Update
If you are one of the unlucky ones trying to play your PS3 brick after installing last week's update, Sony will be issuing a fix on Thursday. The errant update was pulled as soon as the problem surfaced, but a few unlucky owners were affected by the update resulting in a non-playable console.
While we're glad to see Sony finally remedying the issue, some gamers still many not appreciate the nine day turnaround that it'll take to get the fix out.

Happy 65th Anniversary to Computer Software
Friday marked the 65th anniversary of the first use of random access memory to run a stored program. Prior to the testing of 'Baby' as the computer was called, all programs were recalled by using mechanical means or paper tape. 'Baby' had an astounding storage capacity of 1024 bits. We've come a long way, 'Baby'.
The system wasn't developed to be a full scale computational tool but, was rather a proof of concept system in a bid to show that new form of memory was reliable.

Lawmakers Move to Block Black Box Recorders in Cars
Could it be that something positive is coming out of the firestorm and backlash of the NSA debacle? It looks like a lesson has been learned concerning personal privacy and is making its way to Congress. The Black Box, which is due to start being required in cars next year, is being challenged by several Congressmen.
The bill also gives vehicle owners control over the data. All data collected by an EDR becomes the property of the vehicle owner under this legislation. The bill would make it illegal for anyone other than the vehicle owner to download or retrieve information without owner consent or a court order.

The Console Wars Have a Clear Winner: AMD
There's something to be said for being a monopoly, just ask AMD. No matter which console tops the sales charts, AMD wins and is pulling equally for all of them to break every sales record. The chip manufacturer has managed to get its chips into each and every next-gen console on the market.
If you buy any new game console this holiday, you'll be helping to fill AMD's depleted coffers but AMD's sweep could have far more significance than that. The company's dominance in next-gen consoles could actually make PC gaming more relevant than it's been in ages.

The first full trailer for the upcoming film Jobs was released on Friday. After watching the trailer, I think The Woz should sue over his character's physical portrayal looking like a homeless Neanderthal in the movie. Microsoft and Oracle to Announce Partnership
A press conference has been called for Monday by Steve Ballmer and Mark Hurd to announce the new partnership between Microsoft and Oracle, supposedly involving collaboration on a new cloud infrastructure database.
But Microsoft is where it gets interesting, as we think the partnership could involve Oracle 12c becoming available on Windows Azure. This would be momentous, given Microsoft's heavy investment in SQL Server.

Amsterdam Poster Reveals Sony PS4 Launch Date
As usual, retailers who get promotional material by mistake are the ones we get our release date information from and Sony's PS4 release is no different. Take it for what it's worth, but a poster proclaiming the release date of November 13th was spotted in Amsterdam.
That being said, this poster was spotted in Amsterdam, so it may not necessarily be reflective of the release date we get in North America. It should be around the same window, though.

Microsoft Reportedly Tried to Build an Amazon-Killer
Once upon a time, Microsoft had a dream. A beautiful dream of competing with and overtaking Amazon and eBay but then as with all dreams, Microsoft had to wake up and face the reality. The company put together Project Brazil to do just that, but decided recently to scrap the entire effort.
The software giant held discussions with retailers and technology companies about a marketplace, proposing to equip it with an array of merchants, as well as a unified shopping cart and broad shipping options, according to these people. To lure shoppers, Microsoft was considering subsidizing the price of goods on its e-commerce service using a portion of advertising dollars merchants spend on Microsoft's Bing Web-search engine or elsewhere.

Facebook is a place to share with others, but this is taking the social aspect a little too far. Facebook has revealed that a bug was discovered that exposed the contact information of six Million Facebook users. The bug has since been patched, but it's hard to put that toothpaste back in the tube.
"It's ... something we're upset and embarrassed by," Facebook said in a note published to its security blog. "We'll work doubly hard to make sure nothing like this happens again."

Mt. Gox Temporarily Suspends US Dollar Withdrawals
If you are one of the many invested in Bitcoin, withdrawals in US dollars have been suspended for the next two weeks at Mt. Gox. The exchange stated that improvements to the withdrawal system have facilitated the temporary suspension.
Over the past weeks Mt. Gox has experienced rising volumes of deposits and withdrawals from established and upcoming markets interested in Bitcoin. This increased volume has made it difficult for our bank to process the transactions smoothly and within a timely manner, which has created unnecessary delays for our global customers. This is especially so for those in the United States who are requesting wire transfer withdrawals from their accounts.
