The Anniversary of the IPv6 Launch Day
Thursday was the anniversary of the inaugural IPv6 Launch Day .but unfortunately not that many people even noticed with the adaptation of IPv6 mostly stuck in the virtual doldrums. While there is ongoing adoption of the latest Internet protocol, it hasn't exactly created a firestorm of interest. The most adaptation is coming from new connects to the Internet rather than large ISP switching over. Presently IPv6 is carrying only 1.3% of all Internet traffic. There was no IPv6 Launch Day this year.
"The good news is that almost everywhere we look, IPv6 is increasing," Roberts said. "It seems to be me that it's now at the groundswell stage, and it all looks like everything is up and to the right."

Ask.fm: The New Playground of Tweens and Teens
If you think the kids are still hanging out on Facebook, you are so last year. It's coming to the attention of many that the new 'in' place to hang for the 'cool' kids is Ask.fm. The site worries some due to the lack of restrictions and pervasive dark side to the site. Ask.fm operates out of Latvia and the biggest draw is the anonymity that the site provides, translating into 'no parents' to answer to.
Ask.fm is a 3-year-old question-and-answer app that's wracked up 57 million users and is adding members at a rate of 200,000 a day. It's spreading from kid to kid, infiltrating middle schools and high schools the same way that mobile sensations Instagram and Snapchat have.

Rumor: Windows 8.1 to ship August 1st
If you are itching to get a hold of Windows 8.1, it won't be much longer for either version. The preview version is launching on June 26th for all of you brave Beta tester types and now Paul Thurrott has posted that the final release of Windows 8.1 will be held on August 1st. For all of you who don't get the hidden meaning, that would be 8.1. A bit of a warning from another site: installing 8.1 preview is just like installing Windows 8. When the final product is installed, the preview is overwritten, taking all of your apps with it, which will have to be reinstalled manually. Like 8.0 father, like 8.1 son.
Microsoft's reward for its army of unpaid beta-testers: a migration from Windows 8.1 Release Preview to the final retail release will see users having to reinstall all applications from scratch.

Now Intel Wants To Become Your Cable TV Provider
Intel is busy behind the scenes working deals with the likes of CBS, News Corp, NBC and Viacom for programming rights, preparing for the future Intel Cable Company. Firm details are sketchy at this point as to fees and a possible start date, but Intel is hedging the bet against the sagging PC market and the components market associated with it. It's almost a sure bet that sometime in the near future you will have the option to join up with Intel Cable.
While Intel has not said how much it plans to charge for its TV service, Huggers has billed it as a premium product, rather than a cut-rate option for consumers hoping to save money by canceling their cable subscriptions.

Chinese Supercomputer Destroys Speed Record
China's Tianhe-2 Supercomputer has claimed the world's computing speed record unofficially without breaking a virtual sweat. Matter of fact, the supercomputer wasn't even operating at full capacity when it reached 30.65 petaflops, beating the current record holder, Titan, a US based supercomputer by 74%.
Tianhe-2 has a theoretical peak performance of 54.9 petaflops. Measurements for the Top 500 list always fall somewhat short of theoretical peaks, but Tianhe-2 could certainly improve on its score of 30.65 petaflops if it ran Linpack across the entire system.

Google Facial Password Patent Aims to Boost Android Security
Google has created a solution to the glitch found last year in its facial recognition unlocking software: all you have to do is add live facial expressions like stick out your tongue, grimace or generally make a fool of yourself to complete the authentication. It all works well in theory and is quite entertaining to watch, but the actual implementation of a foolproof facial recognition system is still some time away.
It says the check would work by comparing two images taken from a captured video stream of the user's face to see if the difference between them showed the gesture had been made.

Softbank Reportedly Eyeing T-Mobile as 'Plan B'

At present 'Plan A' requires the purchase of Sprint Nextel, but Dish Network has made a bid and could sour the deal. 'Plan B' for SoftBank is entering into talks with Deutsch Telecom to purchase T-Mobile. It's apparent that SoftBank is not going away quietly without a foothold in the US wireless market.
Dish has jumped not only the Sprint-SoftBank deal, but also a related acquisition of Clearwire Corp (CLWR.O) by Sprint. Clearwire has wireless airwaves that both companies want. Sprint already owns a majority stake in Clearwire.

Google Beats Apple and Facebook in Favorable Poll
A poll taken by Washington Post and ABC News shows Google tops out its tech rivals in favorable views toward the company. Google did well across the board in all areas polled. Recent events with the PRISM Internet scandal may skew the next poll's results into all receiving negative reputations according to how the facts sort out, but for now, Google is the most favorable in the eyes of the respondents.
The high level of satisfaction with the social network among young adults may be somewhat surprising given recent data from the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project showing that enthusiasm for Facebook has waned among younger users.
