The Star Trek franchise has affected the way things work technologically for several decades now and Bing is doing its part to honor the newest movie addition to the Star Trek legacy. Bing has added Klingon to its list of translated languages. You can translate Klingon to another language and vice-versa, even entire web pages for whatever twisted reason you may have.

You can really tell when a company is turning into a stuffy proper corporation; they start banning all of the fun things in life in the name of professionalism. In the case of Linkedin, members of the oldest profession are no longer welcomed to create profiles there. Welcome to the stodgy old world of the new Linkedin.
The site welcomes users from a variety of professions, just not the oldest one, it seems. On Monday, LinkedIn added a clause to its user terms that bans working girls (and boys).

Wi-Fi Network Breaks Speed Record
If you think you have a fast Wi-Fi network with great download speeds, check this out. A German Technology Institute has set the transfer record at 40 GB per second for .6 of a mile. This is not a sustainable speed by any means, but it's good enough for some great bragging rights.
What makes this possible is a combination of better hardware and the use of higher radio frequencies, in this case, 240 gigahertz

NASA's Kepler Telescope Crippled by Technical Failures
NASA's Kepler telescope is down, but not completely out. A series of technical and possible structural failures have rendered the telescope unusable for the time being. An investigation into attempted fixes for the crippled space telescope is ongoing. Launched in 2009, the mission was scheduled for 3.5 years and has already surpassed that benchmark. There's never a space shuttle around when you need some repair work done.
Kepler is able to look out in certain directions thanks to four reaction wheels that are used to point the spacecraft. As of Wednesday, two out of four reaction wheels have failed.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced on Friday that Yahoo will be partnering with Twitter to bring tweets directly to Yahoo's homepage. The Twitter feature will be available to everyone over the next few days.
Given the ever-increasing role that Twitter plays in breaking news across basically all categories, this is a pretty logical step for Yahoo if it wants to filter its users to useful sources

Unreleased Nintendo Wii U Games Coming to Best Buy
Nintendo will be showcasing several unreleased Wii U games next month at Best Buy stores. This is a new move for Nintendo, who usually gives fans a chance to experience new games only at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, opted for the Best Buy alternative this year. Details are not solid yet on which stores and games will be offered.
The games will be on display at approximately 100 Best Buy stores in the U.S. and Canada during the week of E3, which kicks off on June 11 in Los Angeles.

Dell's Thumb PC, Project Ophelia, to Ship in July
Dell will be ready to ship out its Project Ophelia thumb PC in July. The thumb sized 'PC on a stick' needs only to be plugged into an HDMI port and you are off and running. The application is aimed at mainly at users who do web-type computing.
Ophelia can turn any screen or display into a PC, gaming machine or a TV set-top box, said Jeff McNaught, executive director of cloud client computing at Dell.

Yahoo Rumored Set to Buy Tumblr for $1.1 Billion
Yahoo's Marissa Mayer is a certified world class shopper and adding to her recent purchases is rumored to be Tumblr social networking site. Details are incomplete, but with a Board meeting on Sunday for financial approval and a planned product related event scheduled for Monday afternoon, the announcement of Tumblr's acquisition is almost a slam dunk certainty at this point.
The company's board will meet Sunday to decide whether it will make a $1.1 billion all-cash offer for the site.

Google Buys a Quantum Computer
Google is teaming up with NASA to create a lab dedicated to the study of artificial intelligence. To accomplish this task, the team has purchased a quantum computer from D-Wave Systems and will be up and running in Q3 this year.
The Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab, as the entity is called, will focus on machine learning, which is the way computers take note of patterns of information to improve their outputs.

U.S. Authorities Seize Accounts of Major Bitcoin Operator
Two accounts associated with the Bitcoin exchange, Mt. Gox, have been seized by US authorities for violations of federal law as an unlicensed money transmitter. What effect the two seizures will have on the Bitcoin market is still uncertain at this point.
Treasury's anti-money laundering unit, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), in March issued guidance that dubbed digital currency exchanges money transmitters, a finding that obliged such businesses to register with FinCEN and obtain any mandated state licenses.

Canonical has indicated that a switch of browsers may be in the offing soon. It's expected that with the release of Ubuntu 13.10, the default browser will change from Firefox to Chromium, but the issue is far from settled with the pro's and con's from users still being weighed.

Oracle Re-numbers Java Patch Updates
If Oracle didn't do a good enough job of confusing users with their patch update identifiers for Java before, this 'new and improved' system is pretty much guaranteed to finish the task. Remember Murphy's Law guys.
