Tesla Hits First Profitable Quarter Ever
Holy cow! Tesla posted a profit for the first time in a decade! Better get a weather update from hell, it might be snowing down there.

The company sold 4,900 vehicles during the three month period, raking in $562 million in revenue, which is up a whopping 83% from last quarter's $306 million. After it was all said and done, Tesla profited $11 million, which is barely pocket change, but it marks the first time in the company's ten-year history that they've finished in the black.

Accident Would Shut Down Google's Driverless Car Experiment
Holy cow, this article is packed full of awesome quotes like "experts say people won't tolerate machines killing humans." Oh yeah, the article says running over babies would be bad too

"There's been all this public outcry about [drones], but the Google car has slipped in under the radar," Missy Cummings, a former fighter pilot turned MIT drone researcher said Tuesday. "You're more likely to be run over by the Google car far before a [drone] would ever fall on your head."

Toshiba: Microsoft Confused Consumers With Windows 8 and RT
Regardless what your feelings are on Windows 8 in general, I think most of us can agree Windows RT was a mistake and the company should have just stuck with the Surface Pro at a lower price point.

While he was speaking from his "personal view" that Microsoft "confused the market with a couple of different flavours" of the operating system, his words will still bounce back on Toshiba as the company he works for. As for the pricing, it "didn't make sense," he told the publication, as the price of laptops were significantly higher than the typical $399-$599 price range.

Silverstone Redline Series RL04
The Silverstone Redline Series RL04 mid-tower case is on the test bench at eTeknix today. Overall they seemed pretty impressed with the RL04, here's a quote from the review:

The RL04 is a rock solid entry to the budget friendly end of the market, so much so that I'm amazed that it costs as little as it does. Silverstone have gone the extra mile here to cram in as many features as possible for as little money as they can and normally you would expect there to be some big sacrifices in build quality to ensure you get everything within a certain price range, however that really isn't the case.

According to BetaNews, the Windows Blue public preview will be out by the end of June.

Our Timid National Broadband Plan Isn't Working
Was there ever any question the National Broadband Plan is seriously broken? By now you would think there would be a system of checks and balances in place to make sure the money is spent where it is supposed to and promises are delivered on.

The high point of the plan has to be grants helping rural communities and Native American territories get wired, though even this has been tarnished by the kind of corporate greed, political corruption and oversight issues we saw in West Virginia. In short, most of the plan was a bit of a show pony designed to make us feel good, with even the few quality portions of the plan being implemented poorly.

DOJ: We Don't Need Warrants For E-Mail, Facebook Chats
The Department of Justice says it doesn't need no stinking warrants to search your e-mail, Twitter messages or Facebook chats. Umm, didn't the IRS just claim the same thing last month?

The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI believe they don't need a search warrant to review Americans' e-mails, Facebook chats, Twitter direct messages, and other private files, internal documents reveal. Government documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union and provided to CNET show a split over electronic privacy rights within the Obama administration, with Justice Department prosecutors and investigators privately insisting they're not legally required to obtain search warrants for e-mail.
