Piracy Quote of the Day
U.S. Ambassador to Australia Jeffrey L. Bleich, speaking on the subject of internet piracy, give us the quote of the day.
Seriously. Illegal immigration is a sort of compliment, too (it means people would rather live in your country than theirs) and so is having someone hit on your partner (because it means they find him/her attractive). The fact that something is a perverse form of compliment doesn't mean that it is acceptable or desirable. No one seriously thinks that illegal immigration or someone seducing your partner is a good thing.

How To Stop Using Google
Although we are not sure why anyone would need it, the Guardian put together a "How To Stop Using Google" guide for anyone looking to ditch every Google product out there (email, video, maps, etc.).

Netflix: Piracy Drops Wherever We Launch
I'm not saying this is B.S. but I'd have to see some hard numbers to back up this claim. While I like what this guy is saying overall, I just find it hard to believe considering how long it takes Netflix to get new content.
One of the things is we get ISPs to publicise their connection speeds and when we launch in a territory the Bittorrent traffic drops as the Netflix traffic grows. So I think people do want a great experience and they want access people are mostly honest. The best way to combat piracy isn't legislatively or criminally but by giving good options. One of the side effects of growth of content is an expectation to have access to it. You can't use the internet as a marketing vehicle and then not as a delivery vehicle.

Gearbox Responds To False Advertising Lawsuit
Gearbox Software doesn't seem to pleased about that class action lawsuit claiming the company used false advertising when marketing Aliens: Colonial Marines. The crew at Kotaku received the following statement:

U.S. Finds Porn Not Secrets on Suspected Spy's PC
Remember the NASA scientist arrested for being a Chinese spy? Turns out the "secret, confidential or classified information" found on his NASA laptop was just porn and pirated movies. Around here that's what is known as "Kyle's workstation."
Bo Jiang, who was indicted March 20 for allegedly making false statements to the U.S., was charged yesterday in a separate criminal information in federal court in Newport News, Virginia. Jiang unlawfully downloaded copyrighted movies and sexually explicit films onto his NASA laptop, according to the court filing. A plea hearing is set for tomorrow.

U.S. Department of Labor Website Infected With Malware
The bad news? A subdomain of the U.S. Department of Labor website was found to be infected with malware. The good news? The site has only had three visitors since 2010, two if you don't count the website's admin.
Hackers planted code on the main SEM page which redirected victims to other pages within the department's website that attacked visitors' computers. The attack code then tries to exploit a vulnerability in older versions of Internet Explorer, wrote Anup Ghosh, founder and CEO of Invincea. The vulnerability, CVE-2012-4792, has been patched by Microsoft.
