'EVE Online' Player Stories Will Turn Into TV Series
The developer of EVE Online, CCP Games, has announced that after 10 years of MMORPG online gameplay, the EVE Online franchise is getting its own television show called EVE Universe. The television show will draw on the ten year history of gameplay for the source of the content for the show.

"Our close collaboration with Baltasar and his creative team gives me confidence that we will capture EVE's essence, inspiring millions of TV viewers with visions of humanity's future."

Tracking Cookies Gone in Five Years?
According to Paul Cimino, VP at Brilig, the tracking cookie will no longer be around to bother us in about five years. He should have some insight into the its status since he was employed with the company that created the tracking cookie in the beginning. Let's all hope his insight is correct and his prediction comes true.

"At my former company, my peers were the people who created cookies. We didn't create them for this. It's a very weak computing mechanism. It's flawed, invasive, it's got privacy issues, it's going to go," he said.

Euro Space Agency Calls for Space Junk Cleanup
What goes up must come down…or does it? Junk is junk and getting rid of it is always a costly endeavor, especially when the junk in question is in Earth orbit. Findings from the 6th European Conference on Space Debris were agreed upon by consensus of the 350 representatives of space agencies and related industries concerning the importance of removing the thousands of pieces of space junk dating back to the infancy of the space age.

The new Clean Space initiative includes maturing technology to approach, capture and deorbit targets – a mission is already under study. Clean Space will also develop techniques to mitigate the problem, such as passive and active deorbiting devices and the means to 'passivate' retiring satellites.

SimCity to Release More Fixes After 2.0 Update Problems
There's a rule in life immortalized by a fellow named Murphy that simply states the harder you try to improve something, the better your chances are to screw it up. Electronic Arts just got that message with the 2.0 upgrade to SimCity by introducing new bugs while fixing a few old ones. EA will be issuing new bug fixes in the near future: Rinse and repeat.

No official dates for the fixes have been given but players are asked to continue to give feedback and to revisit the thread for an update at a later date.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Trailer
2K Games has finally finished tinkering with XCOM and will at long last roll out The Bureau: XCOM Declassified on August 20th for PC, PS3 and Xbox. The renamed game was originally announced back in 2010 as a first person shooter and has now evolved as third-person tactical shooter.

Study Shows 45% of Bitcoin Exchanges Fail
A new study reported by Wired shows that almost half (45%) of all Bitcoin Exchanges fail from various causes and 30% fail after only one year of operation, often leaving Bitcoin owners holding the empty bag.

An exchange needs to maintain a transaction volume above a certain level to survive, but becoming large enough to survive also makes a hack of that exchange worthwhile for cyber attackers.

Google Fiber is Pressuring Rivals to Up Their Game
Maybe the very best feature of Google Fiber will prove to be that it really grabs the attention of other Internet Service Providers. All of this intimidation is causing the companies to run just a little scared and provoking them to get off of their dead ….er uh centers to increase their own speeds to remain competitive even before Google sets a foot into town.

Akamai's data shows that in the fourth quarter of 2012, average Internet speeds in Kansas climbed faster than any other state in America. Average speeds in the midwestern state grew by 86% compared to Q4 2011.

Yahoo Snags Exclusive Rights to SNL
A deal was announced this week between Lorne Michaels and Yahoo to give Yahoo exclusive access to all material from SNL going back to 1975. Presently the exclusivity deal is only valid for one year, but it looks like Yahoo is planning a much longer run with the material. Exactly what the plans are for the use the almost 40 years of Saturday Night Live has yet to be announced by Yahoo.

The deal isn't good news for everyone; clarified in an otherwise-undisclosed terms, other sites will be forced to remove SNL library material to ensure that Yahoo's online exclusivity remains intact.

WikiLeaks Donations by Visa Ruled OK in Iceland
The Icelandic Supreme Court has upheld an earlier ruling against Valitor, the Icelandic subcontractor for Visa. The ruling will allow WikiLeaks to begin to collect donations again using Visa to process payments. The Icelandic ruling may be a factor in other cases pending in other European countries.

Also, WikiLeaks does not expect the ruling to be appealed. "The Icelandic Supreme Court is the highest court in Iceland," the group tweeted. "There is no avenue of appeal for Valitor/Visa."

Forbes Slips in a Free T-Mobile WiFi Hotspot
Microsoft will do about anything to get the word out about Office 365 and the latest promotion to draw attention is a fully functional T-Mobile WiFi hotspot tucked away inside special issues of Forbes Magazine.

Once activated, it dishes out 15 days of free WiFi for up to five devices at once, at up to three hours per charge.

Fedora 19 Alpha Offers a Peek at What's Coming
Almost on schedule as promised, the next version of Fedora is already ready for testing. Named 'Schrodinger's Cat', it is the Alpha version of Fedora 19 and has several new features included. The final version will be available in July after concluding beta testing.

It's not intended for production use, of course. Rather, the alpha software is available purely for testing purposes.

Fred Amoroso Resigns as Chairman of Yahoo
Fred Amorosa, the Chairman of Yahoo who was elected to his position only last May, has resigned and will not seek re-election. His original agreement with Yahoo was to serve one year and oversee the successful turnaround of Yahoo as a company.

"I'm very grateful and proud of the progress Yahoo has made," Amoroso said in the statement. "Yahoo hired a great new CEO, brought on a fantastic management team, revitalized the employee base, and has begun to release top-notch new products."
