Deal of the week: Cheap storage, Blu-ray, and BF3 for 12 bucks Newegg is running a storage-themed sale right now, and there are a few nicely discounted items available. Among them: We also see that Battlefield 3 is on sale for $11.99 at Amazon. BF3 probably doesn't have the most original single-player campaign out there, but it has excellent multiplayer. DICE did a great job of ... Read more... Read More ...

Arma 3 to be a Steam exclusive We've given various entities flak for exclusive games, whether it's titles that are tied to particular console hardware or specific distribution services on the PC, so it's only fair that we point out that Arma 3 will be a Steam exclusive. In a blog post on its website, developer Bohemia Interactive revealed that it's going all-in with Valve's popular distribution service for the next version of its FPS franchise. Arma 3 was already a PC exclusive, and now it'll be available only on Steam. ... Read more... Read More ...
Autonomous quadrocopter drones learn to juggle For a little while, I've been casually watching the development of quadrocopters like the Parrot AR.Drone. The camera-equipped, iPhone-controlled Parrot is a pretty neat toy, but it's got nothing on these drones. A student at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich has taught a pair of quadrocopter drones how to play catch—autonomously. Check it out: ... Read more... Read More ...

Chrome 25 supports voice recognition API Voice recognition is showing up everywhere lately—phones, tablets, Macs, and even the desktop PC of one of our editors (but only because he broke his finger). Now, web apps are going to hop on the bandwagon, thanks to the latest Chrome release. As Google announced on its official blog yesterday, the freshly rolled-out Chrome 25 features support for the Web Speech API. Web Speech is pretty ... Read more... Read More ...
Chromebook Pixel is official, has high-DPI touch screen Well, that leak was pretty much right on the mark. Google has made the Chromebook Pixel official, and the system indeed has a high-DPI touch screen. The screen is clad in Gorilla Glass and crams 2560x1700 pixels into a 12.85" panel with, yes, a bizarro 3:2 aspect ratio. Good on Google for bucking the trend of ever-shrinking vertical screen real estate. ... Read more... Read More ...

AMD sheds more light on the PS4's custom APU Yesterday, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 4 is powered by a single chip with eight x86 cores and PC-class graphics. The firm didn't get into much more detail about the silicon, but AMD has now filled in some of the blanks on its official blog. According to John Taylor, AMD's VP of Global Communications and Industry Marketing, the PS4 features a "semi-custom designed AMD accelerated processing unit (APU) jointly developed in coordination ... Nvidia's GeForce GTX Titan reviewed You may have noticed that, in 2013, things have gotten distinctly weird in the world of the traditional personal computer. The PC is besieged on all sides by sliding sales, gloom-and-doom prophecies, and people making ridiculous claims about how folks would rather play shooters with a gamepad than a mouse and keyboard. There's no accounting for taste, I suppose, which perhaps explains that last one. Fortunately, there is accounting for other things, and the fact remains that PC gaming is a very big business. Yet the PC is in a weird place, with lots of uncertainty clouding its future, which probably helps explain why Nvidia has taken so long—nearly a year after the debut of the GeForce GTX 680—to wrap a graphics card around the biggest chip based on its Kepler architecture, the GK110. The GK110 has been available for a while aboard Tesla cards aimed at the GPU computing market. This chip's most prominent mission to date has been powering the Titan supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Labs. The ... Read more... Read More ...
Watch Dogs trailer puts parkour in slow motion Watch Dogs looks like one of the most promising games due out this year. Cyril quite enjoyed the first gameplay trailer, which was released this summer and showcased some of the game's environments and character interactions in addition to hacking and combat mechanics. This morning, fresh gameplay footage caught my eye—this time with a slow-motion-infused parkour sequence. ... Read more... Read More ...
Gigabyte's Thin Mini-ITX motherboards hit Newegg Remember those Gigabyte Thin Mini-ITX motherboards we told you about last month? The GA-H77TN and GA-B75TN are now official, and they're already available at Newegg. The former is selling for $125, while the latter can be had for $110. Both boards support Intel's latest Ivy Bridge processors and come equipped with dual SO-DIMM slots and quad USB 3.0 ports. They also have Mini PCIe x1/mSATA slots and open-ended PCIe x4 slots. The Thin Mini-ITX form factor is designed for ultra-slim systems and all-in-one PCs, so you probably won't be pairing these puppies with discrete graphics cards. The PCIe x4 slot is only good for delivering 25W of power, anyway. As the model numbers suggest, the GA-H77TN and GA-B75TN are based on the H77 and B75 platform hubs, respectively. The H77 model comes with RAID support and offers two 6Gbps SATA ports and two ... Read more... Read More ...
