iCloud customers get a nice surprise over the weekend
Over the weekend, it seems Apple was feeling a little generous - they extended their additional storage offer until September 30, 2013. Originally, this offer was made to customers making the transition from MobileMe to iCloud.

At the time, they'd offer the normal 5GB that comes with iCloud to ease this move, and it was set to expire on September 30, 2012. But, Apple have been sending out e-mails to their customers informing them that this would be extended until September 30, 2013.
Nothing is required to take advantage of this, so if you were still wondering whether you should make the move or not, you now have another twelve months to scratch that noggin' of yours. Thanks Lee for sending this in!

interbrand_s_latest_data_shows_samsung_apple_are_quickly_becoming_a_household_brand_name

Interbrand gives the world's top companies a brand value, with multiple points of data used to create this "brand value". As you can see from the chart above, Samsung climbed from 17th place in 2011, to 9th place this year. Apple really ramped up the ladder where last year they were 8th and now they're 2nd.
Coca-cola smashes the list sitting at number one both years in a row. What's surprising is that Samsung have overtaken huge companies such as Pepsi, American Express, HP, Disney, Nokia and more. Facebook sit all the way down that list at 69th place.

Julian Assange wants to sue Prime Minister Julia Gillard over WikiLeaks defamation
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has hired Sydney lawyers who will look into a defamation case against Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard. The WikiLeaks founder told left-leaning activist group GetUp! that the PM defamed WikiLeaks when she allegedly told a radio station back in 2010 that Assange had broken the law by releasing hundreds of thousands of US diplomatic cables.

Assange told GetUp! "I have hired lawyers in Sydney and they are investigating the different ways in which we can sue Gillard over this statement". Back in late-2010, Gillard talked about the WikiLeaks release, where she said:

I absolutely condemn the placement of this information on the WikiLeaks website. It's a grossly irresponsible thing to do and an illegal thing to do.

Assange fires back with a statement to GetUp!:

The effects of this statement are ongoing and they directly affect the financial viability of Wikileaks. We are considering suing for defamation so I have hired lawyers in Sydney.

You can read more about it here, but what do you think of this whole thing? Do you think Assange has a case versus the Australian government?

LG Optimus G Nexus gets some hands-on treatment
It was only a few days ago that reports were landing that Google wanted a repeat of the Nexus 7's success, but in smartphone form, and now there's some hands-on reports of LG's Optimus G Nexus.

lg_optimus_g_nexus_gets_some_hands_on_treatment

Android and Me are reporting from multiple sources that have told them that LG are working on a Nexus phone, with some hands-on information to go with it. Their source claims that he's not an employee of Google, but has access to one of the Nexus devices that were handed out last week for testing:

I can confirm the next nexus is LG Optimus based. The phone looks surprisingly like the Galaxy Nexus and does not have sharp corners like the LG Optimus we already know. It has a silver'ring like the iPhone 3G around the outer edge of the screen which seemed to be similar to the Galaxy Nexus in size but was much better in brightness.

I couldn't have said if it was larger in the few minutes that I had the phone. Also, it has Nexus written on the back like the Nexus 7 except there is a color element to it. The 'X' is in four colors. There was also the LG logo on the back.
Android 4.2 in its current state looked exactly like the 4.1.1 we love. There were no tabs on that build version for home-screens as you suggested from your other tipster. What I was amazed by is how fluid everything seemed to be from exiting apps, switching, etc. It seems like they've increased the number of transitions and their types. It still had the hodge-podge mess of multiple communication tools: Messenger, GTalk, Voice and SMS.
Exciting times! We could see a huge swing around from LG in the same way Samsung have turned into Apple's single biggest competitor in just a few years time. Life must be looking Good over at LG.

Nanoxia Deep Silence DS1 Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Introduction

nanoxia_deep_silence_ds1_mid_tower_chassis_review

For those of you, who don't have the access to the news blasts, or like I, am deep into what is offered in the realm of cooling products, Nanoxia may not be a company you are too familiar with. I knew off the top of my head that they are a German manufacturing company, and I thought all they did was fans and fan accessories. Going to their website to dig up a bit of history on them, I was right; there were first and foremost a fan manufacturer that started in 2006 with the intent to make fans of the highest standard. Since those days, they still do pretty much the same thing offering PWM fan controllers, FX-Evo and Deep Silence fans, and some rubber fan screws to keep fins from vibrating against any chassis on the market.
It turns out Nanoxia is stepping into new markets and widening what they will soon offer. This is the first, and currently the only chassis that Nanoxia has developed. With a serious attention to details in its cooling solutions, I have high expectations for what they are bringing forth with this first attempt into the enclosure game. In the most general of terms, this new product offers silence, even the Deep Silence chassis series naming implies this. It also offers quite a bit in the feature set, and to me is stunningly simple to look at. Just from the information available on their website, I am impressed with this offering, even before I had the chassis in my hands.
Today we are going to be looking at the Deep Silence Series DS1 mid-tower chassis from Nanoxia. There were a few news blasts about this chassis, but if you blinked, you likely missed it. Now that the NDA is lifted as of today, it is very likely you are going to see this chassis everywhere. I have to say it may very well remind you of a certain chassis from Fractal Design, even so, I do feel Nanoxia is starting off on the right foot here.
Delivering a chassis with silence in mind has been done of course, but not exactly like this. The uniqueness of the design, the feature set, and the customizability is going to leave this chassis at the front of the pack when you need to look for a new mid-tower chassis that will do just about anything you ask of it.

SPACEX LAUNCHES FIRST OFFICIAL CARGO RESUPPLY MISSION TO SPACE STATION
Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) today successfully launched its Dragon spacecraft aboard a Falcon 9 rocket on the first official cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station. The launch went off on schedule at 8:35 p.m. ET from Launch Complex 40 in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

spacex_launches_first_official_cargo_resupply_mission_to_space_station

The SpaceX CRS-1 mission marks the first of at least 12 SpaceX missions to the space station under the company's cargo resupply contract with NASA. On board the Dragon spacecraft are materials to support investigations planned for the station's Expedition 33 crew, as well as crew supplies and space station hardware.
Dragon - the only space station cargo craft capable of returning a significant amount of supplies back to Earth -- will return with scientific materials and space station hardware.
The Falcon 9 rocket, powered by nine Merlin engines, performed nominally today during every phase of its approach to orbit, including two stage separations, solar array deployment, and the final push of Dragon into its intended orbit. Dragon will now chase the space station before beginning a series of burns that will bring it into close proximity to the station. If all goes well, Dragon will attach to the complex on October 10 and spend over two weeks there before an expected return to Earth on October 28.
"We are right where we need to be at this stage in the mission," said Elon Musk, CEO and Chief Technical Officer, SpaceX. "We still have a lot of work to do, of course, as we guide Dragon's approach to the space station. But the launch was an unqualified success."
The CRS-1 mission follows a historic demonstration flight last May when SpaceX's Dragon became the first commercial spacecraft to attach to the space station, exchange cargo, and return safely to Earth. The flight signaled restoration of American capability to resupply the space station, not possible since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011.
About SpaceX

The company was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk to revolutionize space transportation, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets.
