The F201E models feature a 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) display, a 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron 847 processor, 2/4 GB of RAM, a 320/500 GB hard drive, a 0.3-megapixel webcam, a 3-in-1 card reader, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, and a 5,200 mAh battery enabling up to 5 hours of operation. The cheapest of the F201E lot, priced at €299, runs Ubuntu and has 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB HDD. The same specs, paired up with Windows 8, cost €359. Last but not least, there's a €329 model with 2 GB of RAM and a 320 GB hard drive.

AMD Third-Generation APUs to be Built on 28 nm Process A leaked company roadmap slide revealed that AMD's third-generation performance APU, codenamed "Kaveri," will be built on the 28 nm silicon fabrication process. The chips will be built by Global Foundries. Kaveri combines AMD's next-generation CPU architecture codenamed "Steamroller" with Graphics CoreNext GPU architecture. In addition to Kaveri, AMD will introduce a major update to its low-power APU lineup with "Kabini." A true successor to "Brazos," Kabini features x86-64 cores built on the energy-optimized "Jaguar" architecture (which succeeds "Bobcat," on which Brazos APUs are built). It is also mentioned that Kabini will be a true system-on-chip (SoC), with integration of the FCH chipset into the APU silicon. Such an integration could increase die size and complexity, but could also minimize the board footprint of the platform, making it possible to use the SoC in thin tablets, and COMs.

Biostar Unveils Two Hi-Fi Series FM2 Motherboards Biostar is currently preparing the release of two more motherboards supporting AMD's FM2 (codename Trinity) APUs, the Hi-Fi A85S2 powered by the A85X chipset and the Hi-Fi A55S2 equipped with an A55 chip. Since they are part of the Hi-Fi Series, both models feature an integrated independent audio power design and built-in amplifier, as well as a noise-blocking multi-layer PCB layout, the goal being to deliver a higher quality sound. Both boards have an ATX form factor and pack 100% X.D.C solid capacitors, two DDR3-1866 memory slots, one PCIe x16 and two PCIe x1 slots, three PCI slots, Gigabit Ethernet, 5.1-channel audio, plus D-Sub and DVI outputs. The A55S2 also includes six SATA 3.0 Gbps ports and four USB 2.0 connectors, while the A85S2 comes with eight SATA 6.0 Gbps ports, two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 plugs, and an HDMI output. No word yet on pricing.

Unlike the low-end multi-display solutions, the Colorful GT 640 PRO X4 has 384 CUDA cores and 2G memory to meet the need of large resolution. Pricing information is not released.

ELSA Announces GeForce GTX 650 Ti SAC Graphics Card ELSA announced the GeForce GTX 650 Ti SAC (silent air cooling) graphics card. While the card bears striking resemblance to the GTX 650 SAC, it uses a different (NVIDIA-reference design) PCB, since the ASIC is different (GK106-220-A1). The card features GPU clock speed of 928 MHz, with 5.40 GHz memory. It draws power from one 6-pin PCIe power connector, display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and a mini-HDMI. The SAC cooler combines an monolithic aluminum heatsink with an easy to detach cooler shroud on which the fan is suspended, which makes the cooler easy to clean. Slated for October 25, the GTX 650 Ti SAC from ELSA is priced around 16,800¥ (US $210).

Silverstone SST-PS08B Micro-ATX Case Detailed Silverstone released an entry-level micro-ATX case, the Precision Series PS08B. Built primarily of SECC-steel and ABS plastic, the case measures 168mm (W) x 355mm (H) x 400mm (D), weighing about 3.5 kg. The PS08B includes a handy innovation - the 3.5-inch drive cage is shifted towards the left-hand side facing front, which allows graphics cards to pass right through. As a result, cards as long as 14.1-inch (35.8 cm) can be installed, provided they're less than 5.7-inch (14.47 cm) tall. SanDisk Rolls Out Firmware Update R211 for Extreme Series SSD SanDisk rolled out a firmware update for its Extreme Series high-performance client SSD. The new R211 firmware corrects outstanding bugs related to TRIM and garbage collection, speeds up drive initialization time at boot, and other minor errors. To begin with, the new firmware improves TRIM delay (delay between the SSD receiving TRIM command, and finding a convenient time to "take out the trash"), as a result TRIM and its related garbage disposal performance is greatly increased. The firmware also improves error handling and power management. Next, the new firmware reduces boot-time normalization of SMART attributes, reducing POST initialization time of the drives. Lastly, a minor bug related to temperature-reading is fixed. The update is recommended for users facing issues with SanDisk's fastest client SSDs. (PR) DRAM Contract Price Falls Below US$16 Due to Weak Demand According to DRAMeXchange, a research division of TrendForce, PC-ODM shipment figures indicate this year's peak shipment period for PCs has passed. Notebook shipments have shown a downtrend in October, indication that DRAM demand is slipping. As 4 GB modules are now the mainstream specification, price decline was more significant than for the 2 GB modules; average 4 GB price fell by 1.54% to US$16, while the lowest price broke the US$16 mark, arriving at US$15.75, amounting to a mere US$0.83 for 2 Gb chips - nearly the same as spot price. 2 GB module price, on the other hand, stayed the same at US$9.25. As module prices fall to such lows, DRAM suppliers are strategically focusing on high-density 4GB module shipments in hopes of stimulating sales due to content per unit increases.
