Deal of the week: 25% off games and a $0.66/GB Samsung SSD Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games of the year. Just two months after its initial release, the price has been slashed by half. You can grab the open-world action/adventure game for only $25 on Steam right now. Amazon is also selling the game for $25, and there it can be combined with coupon code SQRLUVOC to knock an additional 25% off the price. The coupon, which we spotted on Digital Gaming Deals, appears to be good for any downloadable game other than XCOM and Borderlands 2. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't have Dishonored in downloadable form. However, you can grab the DVD version for $48, 20% off the usual price. Need somewhere to store those games? Here comes the inevitable SSD deal. This one's pretty sweet: Samsung's 830 Series 256GB is down to $170 at ... Read more... Read More ...

The video walks the player through a handful of different scenarios, explaining elements of the game along the way. ... Read more... Read More ...
Rumor: iPad Mini to spell the end of the iPad 2 Apple is expected to unveil a bite-sized version of its iPad tablet on October 23. The company has sent out invites, and given the sheer number of leaks, that seems pretty much certain. What we hadn't heard yet is that, according to an analyst quoted by AppleInsider, the iPad Mini's arrival may spell the end of the iPad 2. When the new iPad came out, Apple bumped the iPad 2 down to $399 and continued to offer it. Both devices remain available, and the latter is a nice option for folks who don't mind ... Read more... New Samsung Chromebook costs $249, has ARM inside The Samsung Chromebook 550 Chromebook that came out in May is a nice little machine, but at $449.99, it isn't exactly cheap. Google and Samsung have now taken the wraps off a new, cheaper Chromebook that starts at a much more tantalizing $249.99—and it's already listed at Newegg. ... Read more... Read More ...
Dishonored: A nice change of pace Warning: minor spoilers follow. If you haven't beaten the game and want a completely untarnished experience, don't read this! Good single-player games are somewhat of a rarity these days. Way too many titles emphasize multiplayer over single player, and those that don't usually offer frustratingly linear experiences, with cut scenes punctuated by hours and hours of repetitive gunplay. (I'm looking at ... Read more... Read More ...

AMD posts Q3 loss, announces 15% layoffs AMD's third-quarter financial results are in, and they've arrived with a side order of pink slips. The firm recorded a net loss of $157 million on revenue of $1.27 billion. Those numbers are both worse than the previous quarter and worse than Q3 a year ago. AMD's saw revenue decline for both its Computing Solutions and Graphics divisions. Interestingly, though, the average selling price was down for CPUs but up for graphics processors. Overall, AMD's gross margin was just 31%, a steep decline from the 45% it enjoyed both last quarter and in Q3 a year ago. The company identified a $100 million ... Read more... Read More ...
A look at Lucid's Virtu MVP Mobile If you read our news section, you might have seen us talk briefly about the latest from Origin. No, I'm not talking about the Steam substitute to which EA keeps tying its new games. I'm talking about Origin, the Florida-based boutique gaming PC vendor founded by ex-Alienware employees three years ago. In August, Origin became the first company to offer Lucid's Virtu MVP virtualization technology on a mobile platform. All of ... Read more... Read More ...
Intel reportedly readying next-gen Atom with eight CPU cores This past summer, we told you about Project Moonshot, a high-density 4U server packed with 288 Atom processors. Code-named Centerton, those Atom SoCs feature dual cores, single-channel memory controllers, and PCIe connectivity. They lack integrated Ethernet, Serial ATA, and USB controllers, though. Those  omissions will reportedly be addressed by Avoton, a new Atom SoC that CPU World says will incorporate logic to feed six SATA ports (four 3Gbps and two 6Gbps), four USB 2.0 ports, and four Gigabit Ethernet connections. There will be more to Avoton than just extra connectivity. The chip will purportedly include up to eight CPU cores based on the upcoming Silvermont architecture, which is expected to bring out-of-order execution to the ... Read more... Read More ...

Apple ordered to run UK ads saying Samsung didn't copy In the U.S., Apple won its patent lawsuit against Samsung. In the UK, things turned out rather differently. As BBC News reports, a judge ruled in July that Samsung hadn't infringed on Apple's "design rights," and he ordered Apple to run ads saying as much in order to "correct the damaging impression" it had created. Well, Apple has now lost the appeal. BBC News says the ... Read more... Read More ...
Zero-day security hole found in Steam Valve's Steam distribution-cum-social-gaming platform receives adulation from most PC gamers, but its security track record could be better. Last year, Steam servers were hacked, and an encrypted database containing user information was leaked. Now, security site The H reports that Steam is vulnerable to a zero-day exploit. The problem lies with steam:// URLs, which the Steam client app registers upon installation. You can see steam:// links all over the Steam store ; they ... Read more... Read More ...
