BIOSTAR Hi-Fi Z77X LGA 1155 Motherboard Review
BIOSTAR generally has a reputation for making low end or budget oriented motherboards. Fortunately that isn't all BIOSTAR designs and builds. The Hi-Fi Z77X is an unusual motherboard in that it seems to be targeted towards HTPC and media type duties while still addressing enthusiast hardware and overclocking concerns.

Crooks Selling Web Proxy With Backdoors
You know that great deal you got on that paid proxy service? Symantec says you are getting some free backdoor action without even knowing it.

The dropper installs the payload as a service on the computer, copying the payload executable to the system and installing the rootkit. The rootkit attempts to protect the malicious payload and all other files associated with the threat to increase the threat's persistence. The rootkit implements a novel method to avoid device-stack file scanning. The payload itself is a DLL, which is executed when the computer starts and acts as a low-level proxy service that enters the compromised computer into a large botnet used for funneling traffic.

Facebook Partners With Retailers To Test "Want" Button
Another great idea ruined by monetization. No one wants a "want" button to tag retail crap on Facebook...well, maybe the Victoria's Secret pics will get tagged a lot, but you know what I'm saying.

Facebook said it is working with seven retailers, including Pottery Barn and Victoria's Secret, to test the new feature that will allow certain users to flag images of desired products by clicking a special "want" button.

Studios Making Another Push For UltraViolet
How does that saying go again? Something about polishing a turd? In this case you'd just end up with an ultraviolet turd.

The film studios' initiative to seed the cloud with movies hasn't caught on yet with consumers. So the push is on to tweak the offering and generate some demand.

U.S.: If Internet Governance Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It
I like this guy's approach to governing the internet.

Doing nothing "would not be a terrible outcome at all", said U.S. Ambassador Terry Kramer, who will head the U.S. delegation at the World Conference on International Telecommunications, which will be held in Dubai. "The natural path we're on is pretty good," he told reporters in Geneva. "Does that mean there aren't things that could improve? Absolutely there are things that could improve. But the best thing to do, if you could pick two options, one is to get prescriptive and get into a lot of things versus leaving things open, we're much better by leaving things open."

Could Google Glass Be Banned In Casinos?
Could Google Glasses be banned in the casinos? Let me answer that question this way...just try using ANY recording device, Google glasses or not, while you are gambling and see what happens.

In a scenario where you are wearing google glass at the casino roulette table, It would be relatively doable to use google glass camera and do some image differentiation to capture the speed of the wheel against the speed of the ball. This should in turn allow you calculate a prediction on where the ball might end up. It would kinda be a gamblers dream - knowing the outcome before it happens.

GM To Add 1,500 Information Tech Jobs in Michigan
It's always good to hear a company is planning on adding thousands of jobs. It's even better news when they are tech jobs. If you live in Michigan, dust off the ol' resume and snag one of those jobs.

General Motors Co said on Monday it will create 1,500 jobs at a new software development center in Michigan as part of the U.S. automaker's previously announced plan to shift information technology work back into the company. GM said it will hire the software developers, database experts, analysts and other IT positions over the next four years for the office in Warren, Michigan. It is the second of four software development centers GM plans to open, following one it announced last month in Austin, Texas.
