Lenovo's profit up 30 percent, mobile business unit continues to grow
Chinese PC maker Lenovo said on Thursday that net profit in its fiscal first quarter ended June 30 grew by 30 percent year-over-year, as the company inched closer toward surpassing HP to become the top vendor in the market. Lenovo's net profit reached $141 million in the quarter, up from $108 million in the same period a year ago. The company's revenue in the quarter was at $8 billion, a year-over-year increase of 35 percent.

U.S. loses fight to keep tight hold on Megaupload evidence
The U.S. government lost a bid on Thursday to withhold some evidence in advance of the extradition hearing for four Megaupload defendants charged with criminal copyright infringement. The United States had asked for a judicial review following a New Zealand District Court ruling on May 29 ordering it to turn over some evidence to allow the four -- Kim Dotcom, Finn Batato, Mathias Ortmann, and Bram Van Der Kolk -- to prepare for the hearing.

AT&T hit by DDoS attack, suffers DNS outage
A distributed denial-of-service attack aimed at AT&T's DNS (Domain Name System) servers has disrupted data traffic for some of the company's customers. Security vendor exposes vulnerabilities in DDoS rootkit
In what it says is an attempt to turn the tables on malicious hackers, security vendor Prolexic on Tuesday released details of vulnerabilities it has discovered in a toolkit family used by hackers to launch distributed denial of service attacks against corporate networks. The disclosure is designed to give IT security staff information they can use to mitigate attacks launched using the DDoS toolkit, according to Prolexic.
