Proposed: An à la Carte Internet
How would you like to pick and choose what services you use accessing features on the Internet? If you don't like the service, simply don't go back. A new proposal named 'ChoiceNet', would make option shopping a reality on the Internet.

End-users shouldn't be "stuck when the service they receive is not consistent with their expectations," the team writes in a brief abstract. "Rather, they must be able to choose a different service provider, to better meet their expectations."

Outlook.com Doesn't Play Well With Android Mobile
Microsoft has acknowledged that its rollout of the Outlook.com email service has hit a few bumps in the road, specifically the inability to open Office attachments in the cloud with Android devices. Microsoft is looking into the problem for a fix.

The issues you are running into are limitations that are specific to the Android mobile browsing experience and the Office Web Applications. Microsoft is aware of them and the team continues to use this feedback to improve the Outlook.com Preview on all modern devices.

Assassin's Creed III PC Release Date Finally Announced
Following up on its delay announcement for Assassin's Creed 3 for PC in June, Ubisoft has announced the PC version will follow the release dates of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions by less than a month.

Ubisoft still hasn't explained why it delayed the PC version of Assassin's Creed III, but that isn't anything new. Ubisoft often delays these PC games without giving any reason at all, leaving us to guess at the reasoning behind the decision.

FBI Believed Kim Dotcom Had a 'Doomsday Device'
The SWAT-styled raid on Kim Dotcom's mansion by anti-terrorist police were working from information supplied by the FBI that Kim Dotcom possessed a 'Doomsday Device' for destroying all information on all Megaupload servers all around the world with the press of a button. This tidbit of information was made public on Friday in Auckland's High Court review of police evidence in the case.

Thirty armed police stormed Dotcom's Auckland home by road and air to find the device in the FBI-inspired raid in January. Almost 30 other officers followed to search for evidence using a warrant since ruled invalid.

Is Your Computer Infected With Gauss Malware?
As we reported yesterday, Kaspersky reported a new variant virus making the rounds. The Gauss malware was initially designed to steal banking information from Middle East users, but has since expanded its parameters. A link is provided to check to see if your PC has been infected.

Gauss steals detailed information like browser history, cookies, passwords, and system configurations, Kaspersky said, but it can also steal things like credentials for various online banking systems and payment methods.

Acer Chairman Reconsiders Stance on Microsoft Surface
After blasting Microsoft for the unannounced entry into tablet PC market late last month, JT Wang, Chairman of Acer, has softened his position on Surface and the continued association with the Microsoft brand.

Wang claimed Acer is not afraid of competition, but said he only wishes to understand the new rules of the game, and so will continue to try to communicate with Microsoft to understand the situation.

Microsoft, Adobe Plan Critical Patch Tuesday Security Updates
It's that time of the month again, meaning Microsoft is rolling out new patches for Patch Tuesday. This month brings nine security bulletins, with five of those rated critical addressing issues across a wide range of platforms.

"Bulletin one is rated critical and will address Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8," Carey said. "Browser bulletins always deserve attention since client-side browser attacks are the de facto way to compromise corporate networks."

The 'iPad for a Kidney' Trial Wraps Up in China
Nine Chinese who were involved in trafficking a human organ in 2011, went to trial in southern China this week. The nine are accused of profiting from the removal and transplantation of a kidney for profit. The 17 year old 'donor' received less than $3500 dollars (US) for his kidney. The money was used to buy an iPad and an iPhone. The verdict of the trial was not immediately announced.

The likelihood of the defendants' being found guilty is high: Chinese criminal courts convicted 99.9% of the people who stood trial in 2010, a U.S. State Department report said, citing the Chinese Supreme People's Court.

T-Mobile Ordered to Rehire Whistleblowers
T-Mobile is appealing a ruling by the US Department of Labor to reinstate an employee who reported the company for charging customers fraudulent roaming charges. The Labor Department also ordered back pay, damages and attorney's fees to be paid by the company.

"T-Mobile will appeal this preliminary conclusion and looks forward to presenting its evidence at trial. T-Mobile acted appropriately and within the law in terminating the individual's employment."

NASA Engineers Prep for a Software Upgrade on Mars.
Talk about your Remote Desktop Connections: NASA is preparing to upgrade the landing software on the Curiosity Rover to operational software designed to move the rover around Mars.

The new software, which is designed to help the rover get around Mars, whereas the old software was designed for the landing process, was sent to the rover while it was flying through space en route to Mars

IBM Wants RIM's Crown Jewel -- Its Enterprise Business
IBM is looking to strip the meat off the not-quite-dead-yet Research in Motion's bones by making an unofficial offer to buy RIM's enterprise-services unit, the most valuable of the company's assets. No formal offer has yet been made on enterprise according to sources at Bloomberg.

The business may be valued at $1.5 billion to $2.5 billion depending on the mix of assets included, according to Berenberg Bank.

The trickle of talent leaking away from beleaguered Zynga is turning into a small flood. The latest to say adios to the company is John Schappert, Chief Operating Officer of Zynga.

Schappert's departure from Zynga signals that the corporate shifts at the company in July weren't just cosmetic. Zynga is trying to change fast.
