Over the past few weeks, we've seen Microsoft progressively narrow its release time frame for Windows 8. First it was this fall, and then it became late October. Now, we finally have a final release date set in stone: October 26, 2012.

Metro: Last Light E3 gameplay video now online
During the E3 expo last month, 4A Games showed off Metro: Last Light, the sequel to Metro 2033. An official trailer was released to the public, but it cuts between short snippets that barely give a glimpse of the game. The 13-minute gameplay video created for the show is a lot more revealing, and the footage is now available online. We've embedded the clip below. There is some adult language, but mercifully, no dubstep.

Indilinx Barefoot 3 SSD controller coming soon
OCZ's "Indilinx Infused" Octane, Vertex 4, and Agility 4 SSDs don't actually have Indilinx controllers. Instead, they feature a layer of proprietary firmware atop controller silicon from Marvell. OCZ has been working on a new Indilinx controller chip, though. According to CEO Ryan Petersen, this Barefoot 3 controller is now in production at TSMC. The SSD maker expects to be sampling drives based on the chip by September.Petersen revealed the Barefoot 3's progress during a conference call with financial analysts, and Xbit Labs has the skinny . Intel's Otellini: Touch ultrabooks, x86 tablets coming
Following Intel's quarterly results announcement yesterday, Intel CEO Paul Otellini got on a conference call to speak to journalists, analysts, and investors. The call centered on the chipmaker's financials, but Otellini briefly discussed upcoming ultrabooks and tablets, as well. The Intel CEO said we're going to see a fair number of touch-enabled ultrabooks and x86 tablets in the latter part of the year. He also promised that $699 ultrabooks will be available at retail this fall.
