Steam, Left 4 Dead 2 headed to Linux
Ever since Steam made its way to OS X (along with several Valve games), we've been hearing the odd rumor about a Linux version of the digital distribution-cum-social gaming client. Valve unequivocally shot down the rumors two years ago. However, in a surprising turnaround, the company announced yesterday evening that work on a Linux port is underway after all.
Valve says it formed a Linux team in 2011—so, the year after denying the rumors. The team was made up of only a "few people," and it was tasked with looking into the feasibility of porting Steam and Left 4 Dead 2 to Ubuntu Linux. Valve targeted Ubuntu not ...

GeForce GTX 660 Ti rumored for August release
If you want a decent graphics card based on Nvidia's latest Kepler GPU microarchitecture, you're going to have to spend at least $400 on a GeForce GTX 670. While it's true that the $99 GeForce GT 640 also features a Kepler-based GPU, that card is woefully underpowered and should really cost $60-70. The GeForce 600 series could have a new $300 model as early as next month, though. This story at Sweclockers claims the GeForce GTX 660 Ti is due to arrive in August.
Pictures of a purported GeForce GTX 660 leaked in May , so a late-summer arrival seems plausible. Adding ...

Report: AMD to reveal Jaguar details in August
Tablets are the hot new thing. Research firm IDC says over 100 million slates will sell this year, and that number is expected to almost double by 2016. We learned in April that AMD is working on a tablet-focused APU dubbed Temash. In addition to graphics derived from the GCN architecture underpinning the Radeon HD 7000 series, Temash will feature dual processor cores based on a new Jaguar CPU microarchitecture. According to ...

EA: Battlefield 4 beta will kick off in the fall of 2013
I guess someone at EA jumped the gun before the weekend, but that Battlefield 4 beta promotion was no mistake. EA officially confirmed it in an announcement this morning, saying folks who pre-order Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition before October 23 will, indeed, be allowed to participate in the Battlefield 4 beta.
Battlefield fans will have to bide their time, though. EA says the "exclusive" Battlefield 4 beta won't be available until "Fall 2013." The company hasn't released any details about the game, either, beside the rough time frame for the public beta kickoff and the fact ...

Intel SSD price cuts are official
The rumor mill expected Intel to slash SSD prices in August, and it was incorrect. Turns out Intel went ahead and announced the cuts on its Chip Shot blog yesterday. The company didn't provide a list of drives and their updated prices, but it confirmed that it's "lowered suggested reseller pricing" on "a number" of drives, including 320, 330, and 520 Series SSDs.Sure enough, the prices VR-Zone quoted last week seem to be largely in effect at Newegg. 180GB, 120GB, and 60GB variants of ...
