Valve to let gamers choose which games end up on Steam
Game publishing seems to be getting a lot more democratic lately. This year, several titles have made headlines for receiving generous funding directly from fans thanks to Kickstarter: Double Fine Adventure, Wasteland 2, and Shadowrun Returns. Now, Valve Software is preparing a new service called Steam Greenlight, which will let gamers choose which titles get distributed on Steam.
According to Valve, developers will be able to submit games for consideration "as early in the development process as they like;" they'll only need to provide a description of the game, one video, four screenshots, "tentative ...

Here's the latest in AMD's ever-growing string of misfortunes. After posting a $590 million loss last quarter, AMD proudly announced that its revenue would grow by 0-3% in the second quarter. Today, the chipmaker revised that forecast. Revenue is now expected to drop by "approximately 11 percent."

New screenshots show survival MMOFPS Survivarium
I'm still disappointed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was cancelled, but I'm intrigued by the next project from its developers: Survivarium, a free-to-play, massively multiplayer first-person shooter that's all about (drumroll) survival in a post-apocalyptic environment.
Over the weekend, Vostok Games released a handful of pretty screenshots as well as a developer diary video that sheds light on ...

Fujitsu introduces Win8 tablet hybrids in two flavors
Windows 8 is still a few months away, but Fujitsu has already announced a couple of tablet hybrids that look perfect for Microsoft's new OS. The 11.6" Stylistic Q702 takes cues from Asus' Transformer designs, offering separate tablet and keyboard components. The former boasts an IPS panel with support for both multi-touch and stylus input. Oddly, the official press release doesn't mention the display resolution, which is likely 1366x768. Options include Ivy-based Core i3 and i5 CPUs and either 64 or 128GB of solid-state storage. The tablet will come with 4GB of RAM by default, and it's supposed to tip the scales at 1.9 lbs.

Samsung reportedly planning Windows RT tablet
We already know HP has shied away from Windows RT and, for now, only has plans for a business tablet featuring the x86 version of Windows 8. Well, it turns out Samsung may not be so timid. Bloomberg reports the Korean conglomerate is cooking up an ARM-powered Windows tablet for this fall.
The news service says "people with knowledge of the matter" expect the Samsung device to launch in conjunction with the new operating system. "One person," Bloomberg adds, believes that will happen in October. Presumably, that ...

Day Z mod surpasses 420k players in three months
Zombies are in these days, and there's no shortage of games featuring lurching hordes of walkers. Right now, none might be as popular as Day Z. Amazingly, the game isn't a standalone release; it's a mod for military shooter ArmA II. Day Z hasn't hit even beta yet, either. The alpha test was released in April, and according to creator Dean Hall, there are more than 420,000 players already.
Bit-Tech has a bunch of interesting stats on the game, which is reportedly adding 10,000 players a day. During a 24-hour period, Day Z 's ...
