
Yahoo, Facebook settle patent dispute
Yahoo and Facebook announced Friday they have settled a high-profile patent dispute with a deal that analysts said would likely be good for both sides. As part of the agreement, Yahoo and Facebook have signed a cross-licensing deal granting access to each others' patent portfolios, they said in a joint statement. They've also forged an advertising partnership and will expand an existing content distribution agreement.

Google, Apple remove malware application from official app stores
Google and Apple removed a mobile app named Find and Call from their respective app stores on Thursday following reports that it was stealing people's phone book data and using the information to spam their contacts. The app had been available on Google Play since at least May 21 and on Apple's App Store since at least June 13. Those dates are when the app's Android and iOS versions were last updated, said Denis Maslennikov, a senior malware analyst at security firm Kaspersky Lab.

Amazon.com is keeping busy as the online retailer is reportedly prepping to release four new tablets and a smartphone. Amazon is working with manufacturer Foxconn to create the smartphone, according to a Bloomberg.com report that cited two informed sources.

Intel appeals E.U.'s $1.3 billion antitrust fine
Intel this week presented an array of arguments to the E.U. General Court against a massive €1.06 billion ($1.3 billion) fine imposed by Europe's antitrust regulators. In 2009, the European Commission fined Intel for using rebates to block rivals. The commission says that between 2002 and 2005, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Lenovo, and Media Saturn Holding all received financial incentives from Intel not to buy computer chips from its rivals.
