
10 for 2012: Gartner's top emerging infrastructure trends
Gartner kicked off its Infrastructure & Operations Management Summit last week with a top 10 list of the most significant emerging trends that will impact data centers and information technology used by businesses and government from now into the next four or five years. The list was presented by Gartner Chief of Research Dave Cappuccio in a keynote address, in which he explained there's often a cascading effect as one trend such as employee mobile devices and cloud use affects others such as help desk operations.

Apple unveils new, thin MacBook Pro, iOS 6, and more OS X features
To an audience of several thousand OS X and iOS developers, Apple today unveiled several expected products at its WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) in San Francisco: the iOS 6 mobile operating system used in the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch; additional features for the previously announced OS X Mountain Lion; and both an all-new thin MacBook Pro design and hardware upgrades to its existing MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptop lines. Microsoft touts Windows Server 2012, Azure for data center 'cloud OS'
Microsoft kicked off its TechEd North America conference with a wide-ranging keynote session that was short on "wow" news but heavy on positioning for Windows Server 2012, Windows Azure and server-side products as key components of what the company is calling "the era of the cloud OS." Organizations need server tools and operating systems in their data centers that can deliver and support a wide variety of Internet-connected devices and of always-on Web applications, said Satya Nadella, president of Microsoft's Server & Tools division.

Update: Security researchers discover link between Stuxnet and Flame
Security researchers from antivirus vendor Kaspersky Labs have found evidence that the development teams behind the Flame and Stuxnet cyberespionage threats collaborated with each other. The Kaspersky researchers determined that Flame, which is believed to have been created in 2008, and a 2009-version of Stuxnet shared one component that served the same purpose and had similar source code.
